1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.	1 Or tutte quante le schiere de' Filistei si unirono insieme in Aphec: e Israele pose il campo presso alla fontana, che era a Jezrahel.
2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.	2 E i satrapi de' Filistei andavano colle loro squadre di cento, e mille uomini: ma David, e la sua gente erano nella retroguardia con Achis.
3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'	3 E i principi de' Filistei dissero ad Achis: Che fan qui questi Ebrei? E Achis disse a' principi de' Filistei: Non conoscete voi David, il quale era servo di Saul re d'Israele, e sta presso di me da molti dì, o piuttosto anni, e non ho avuto da dolermi di lui dal giorno, in cui si rifuggì presso di me sino a quest'ora?
4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?	4 Ma i principi de’ Filistei si sdegnarono contro di lui, e gli dissero: Torni addietro costui, e se ne stia nel luogo da te assegnatogli, e non venga con noi alla battaglia, affinchè non ci si rivolti contro quando avrem cominciata la zuffa: imperocché come potrebb'egli altrimenti racquistar la grazia del signor suo se non a spese delle nostre teste?
5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?	5 Non è egli costui quel Davidde, di cui cantavasi in mezzo alle danze: Saul ne ha uccisi mille, e David dieci mila?
6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.	6 Achis pertanto chiamò a se David, e gli disse: Viva il Signore: Tu se' uomo retto, e dabbene negli occhi miei: e tu andavi, e venivi nel mio campo senza che io abbia trovato in te alcun difetto dal giorno, in cui venisti a me sino a questo giorno: ma i satrapi non ti gradiscono.
7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'	7 Torna adunque indietro, e vattene in pace, e non disgustare i satrapi dei Filistei.
8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'	8 E David disse ad Achis: ma e che ho fatt'io, e che hai tu trovato in me tuo servo dal giorno ch'io mi presentai al tuo cospetto sino a questo dì, onde non debba venire, e non debba combattere contro i nemici del re signor mio?
9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."	9 Ma Achis rispose, e disse a David: Io confesso, che tu sei buono negli occhi miei, come un Angelo di Dio: ma i satrapi de' Filistei hanno detto: Egli non verrà con noi alla battaglia.
10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'	10 Per la qual cosa ai calici i buon'or a tu, ed i servi del tuo signore, che son venuti con te: e alzati che sarete prima che finisca la notte, andatevene, quando comincerà a schiarirsi il giorno.
11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.	11 David pertanto si levò che era ancor notte, colla sua gente per partire al mattino, e tornare nel paese de’ Filistei: e i Filistei andarono a Jezrahel.
