1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.	1 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Afek, tandis que les Israélites campaient à côté de la source qui se trouve dans la plaine de Yizréel.
2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.	2 Les chefs des Philistins défilaient avec leurs groupes de cent et de mille; David et ses hommes étaient à l’arrière-garde avec Akich.
3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'	3 Les chefs des Philistins demandèrent à Akich: “Qui sont ces Hébreux?” Akich leur répondit: “Mais c’est David, le serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël. Depuis longtemps, deux ans peut-être, il est chez moi, et je n’ai jamais eu à me plaindre de lui depuis qu’il est passé de mon côté.”
4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?	4 Les chefs des Philistins se mirent en colère contre Akich, ils lui dirent: “Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne d’où il vient! Qu’il ne vienne pas avec nous à la bataille, il pourrait bien se retourner contre nous. Comment pourrait-il acheter le pardon de son maître, sinon avec les têtes de nos hommes?
5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?	5 N’est-ce pas à propos de ce David que l’on dansait en chantant: Saül en a tué mille, mais David en a tué dix mille?”
6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.	6 Akich appela donc David et lui dit: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant, tu es un homme droit. Pour ma part, je suis heureux que tu sois ici avec moi, car tu n’as mérité aucun reproche depuis que tu es arrivé jusqu’à maintenant, mais tu es très mal vu des chefs.
7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'	7 Retourne donc, va-t’en en paix et n’indisposons pas les chefs des Philistins.”
8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'	8 David dit à Akich: “Qu’ai-je donc fait? Qu’as-tu à reprocher à ton serviteur depuis que je suis venu jusqu’à maintenant, pour que tu me refuses de combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?”
9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."	9 Akich répondit à David: “Je le sais, tu es aussi sûr pour nous qu’un ange de Dieu, mais les chefs des Philistins ont décidé que tu ne viendrais pas avec nous à la bataille.
10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'	10 Levez-vous donc de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi, et retournez à l’endroit que je vous ai assigné. Ne le prends pas mal, tu sais que je t’estime. Demain matin vous vous lèverez tôt, et dès que le jour se lèvera vous partirez.”
11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.	11 David et ses hommes se levèrent donc de bonne heure; dès le matin ils repartirent pour le pays des Philistins; quant aux Philistins, ils montèrent vers Yizréel.
