NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The Israelites then al turned out and, as one man, the entire community from Dan to Beersheba,including Gilead, assembled in Yahweh's presence at Mizpah.	1 Salieron, pues, todos los israelitas y se reunió toda la comunidad como un solo hombre, desde Dan hasta Berseba y el país de Galaad, delante de Yahveh, en Mispá.
2 The leaders of the entire people, of al the tribes of Israel, were present at this assembly of God'speople, four hundred thousand trained infantry.	2 Los principales de todo el pueblo y todas las tribus de Israel acudieron a la asamblea del pueblo de Dios: 400.000 hombres de a pie, armados de espada.
3 The Benjaminites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah. The Israelites then said, 'Tel ushow this crime was committed.'	3 Oyeron los benjaminitas que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Mispá... Los israelitas dijeron: «Decidnos cómo ha sido el crimen».
4 The Levite, husband of the murdered woman, spoke in reply and said,	4 El levita, marido de la mujer asesinada, tomó la palabra y dijo: «Había llegado yo con mi concubina a Guibeá de Benjamín para pasar la noche.
5 'The men of Gibeah ganged up against me and, during the night, surrounded the house where I waslodging. They intended to murder me. They raped my concubine to death.	5 Los señores de Guibeá se levantaron contra mí y rodearon por la noche la casa; intentaron matarme a mí, y abusaron tanto de mi concubina que murió.
6 I then took my concubine, cut her up and sent her throughout the entire territory of the heritage ofIsrael, since these men had committed a shameful act, an infamy, in Israel.	6 Tomé entonces a mi concubina, la descuarticé y la envié por todo el territorio de la heredad de Israel, porque habían cometido una vergüenza y una infamia en Israel.
7 Now, all you Israelites, discuss the matter and give your decision here and now.'	7 Aquí estáis todos, israelitas: tratadlo y tomad aquí mismo una resolución».
8 The whole people stood up as one man and said, 'None of us wil go home, none of us will go back tohis house!	8 Todo el pueblo se levantó como un solo hombre diciendo: «Ninguno de nosotros marchará a su tienda, nadie volverá a su casa.
9 And this is what we are now going to do to Gibeah. We shal draw lots	9 Esto es lo que hemos de hacer con Guibeá. Echaremos a suertes
10 and, throughout the tribes of Israel, select ten men out of a hundred, a hundred out of a thousand anda thousand out of ten thousand to col ect food for the people, so that, on their arrival, the latter may treat Gibeahin Benjamin as this infamy perpetrated in Israel deserves.'	10 y tomaremos de todas las tribus de Israel diez hombres por cada cien, cien por cada mil, y mil por cada 10.000; ellos recogerán víveres para la tropa, para hacer, en cuanto lleguen, con Guibeá de Benjamín según la infamia que han cometido en Israel».
11 Thus, as one man, al the men of Israel mustered against the town.	11 Así se juntó contra la ciudad toda la gente de Israel como un solo hombre.
12 The tribes of Israel sent messengers throughout the tribe of Benjamin to say, 'What is this crimewhich has been committed in your territory?	12 Las tribus de Israel enviaron emisarios a toda la tribu de Benjamín diciendo: «¿Qué crimen es ése que se ha cometido entre vosotros?
13 Now, give up these men, these scoundrels, living in Gibeah, so that we can put them to death andwipe out this evil from Israel.' The Benjaminites, however, would not listen to their brother Israelites.	13 Ahora, pues, entregadnos a esos hombres malvados de Guibeá, para que los matemos y desaparezca el mal de Israel». Pero los benjaminitas no quisieron hacer caso a sus hermanos los israelitas.
14 The Benjaminites left their towns and mustered at Gibeah to fight the Israelites.	14 Los benjaminitas, dejando sus ciudades, se reunieron en Guibeá para salir al combate contra los israelitas.
15 At the time, a count was made of the Benjaminites from the various towns: there were twenty-sixthousand swordsmen; and the count excluded the inhabitants of Gibeah.	15 Aquel día los benjaminitas llegados de las diversas ciudades hicieron el censo, que dio en total 25.000 hombres armados de espada, sin contar los habitantes de Guibeá.
16 In this great army there were seven hundred first-rate left-handers, every man of whom could sling astone at a hair and not miss it.	16 En toda esta tropa había setecientos hombres elegidos, zurdos, capaces todos ellos de lanzar una piedra con la honda contra un cabello sin errar el tiro.
17 A count was also held of the men of Israel, excluding Benjamin: there were four hundred thousandmen, al experienced swordsmen.	17 La gente de Israel hizo también el censo. Sin contar a Benjamín, eran 400.000 armados de espada; todos hombres de guerra.
18 They moved off, up to Bethel, to consult God. The Israelites put the question, 'Which of us is to gofirst into battle against the Benjaminites?' And Yahweh replied, 'Judah is to go first.'	18 Partieron, pues, y subieron a Betel. Consultaron a Dios y le preguntaron los israelitas: «¿Quién de nosotros subirá el primero a combatir contra los benjaminitas?» Y Yahveh respondió: «Judá subirá primero».
19 In the morning, the Israelites moved off and pitched their camp over against Gibeah.	19 Los israelitas se levantaron temprano y acamparon frente a Guibeá.
20 The men of Israel advanced to do battle with Benjamin; they drew up their battle line in front ofGibeah.	20 Salieron los hombres de Israel para combatir contra Benjamín y se pusieron en orden de batalla frente a Guibeá.
21 But the Benjaminites sal ied out from Gibeah and that day massacred twenty-two thousand Israelites.	21 Pero los benjaminitas salieron de Guibeá y dejaron muertos en tierra aquel día a 22.000 hombres de Israel.
22 The army of the men of Israel then took fresh heart and again drew up their battle line in the sameplace as the day before.	22 Los israelitas subieron a llorar delante de Yahveh hasta la tarde y luego consultaron a Yahveh diciendo: «¿He de entablar combate otra vez contra los hijos de mi hermano Benjamín?» Yahveh respondió: «Subid contra él».
23 The Israelites went and wept before Yahweh until evening; they then consulted Yahweh; they asked,'Shal we join battle again with the sons of our brother Benjamin?' Yahweh replied, 'March against him!'	23 Entonces la tropa de Israel recobró su valor y volvió a ponerse en orden de batalla en el mismo lugar que el primer día.
24 This second day, the Israelites advanced against the Benjaminites,	24 El segundo día los israelitas se acercaron a los benjaminitas;
25 and, this second day, Benjamin sallied out from Gibeah to meet them and massacred anothereighteen thousand Israelites, al experienced swordsmen.	25 pero también aquel segundo día Benjamín salió de Guibeá a su encuentro y volvió a dejar tendidos en tierra a 18.000 israelitas; todos ellos armados de espada.
26 Then al the Israelites and the whole people went off to Bethel; they wept and sat in Yahweh'spresence; they fasted all day till the evening and presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices beforeYahweh.	26 Entonces todos los israelitas y todo el pueblo subieron hasta Betel, lloraron, se quedaron allí delante de Yahveh, ayunaron todo el día hasta la tarde y ofrecieron holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión delante de Yahveh.
27 The Israelites then consulted Yahweh. In those days, the ark of the covenant of God was there,	27 Consultaron luego los israelitas a Yahveh, pues el arca de la alianza de Dios se encontraba allí,
28 and Phinehas son of Eleazer, son of Aaron was its minister at the time. They said, 'Ought I to go intobattle against the sons of my brother Benjamin again, or should I stop?' Yahweh replied, 'March! For tomorrow Ishall deliver him into your hands.'	28 y Pinjás, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, estaba entonces a su servicio. Dijeron: «¿He de salir otra vez a combatir a los hijos de mi hermano Benjamín o debo dejarlo?» Yahveh respondió: «Subid, porque mañana lo entregaré en vuestras manos».
29 Israel then positioned troops in ambush al round Gibeah.	29 Israel puso gente emboscada alrededor de Guibeá.
30 On the third day the Israelites marched against the Benjaminites and, as before, drew up their line infront of Gibeah.	30 Al tercer día los israelitas marcharon contra los benjaminitas y se pusieron en orden de batalla como las otras veces frente a Guibeá.
31 The Benjaminites sal ied out to engage the people and let themselves be drawn away from the town.As before, they began by kil ing those of the people who were on the roads, one of which runs up to Bethel, andthe other to Gibeah through open country: some thirty men of Israel.	31 Los benjaminitas salieron a su encuentro y se dejaron atraer lejos de la ciudad. Comenzaron como las otras veces a matar gente del pueblo por los caminos que suben, uno a Betel y otro a Guibeá, a campo raso: unos treinta hombres de Israel.
32 The Benjaminites thought, 'We have beaten them, as we did the first time,' but the Israelites haddecided, 'We shal run away and draw them away from the town along the roads.'	32 Los benjaminitas se dijeron: «Han sido derrotados ante nosotros como la primera vez». Pero los israelitas se habían dicho: «Vamos a huir para atraerlos lejos de la ciudad hacia los caminos».
33 All the Israelites then retreated and reformed at Baal-Tamar, while the Israelite troops in ambushsurged from their positions to the west of Gibeah.	33 Entonces todos los hombres de Israel se levantaron de sus puestos, tomaron posiciones en Baal Tamar, y los emboscados de Israel atacaron desde su puesto al oeste de Gueba.
34 Ten thousand picked men, chosen from the whole of Israel, launched their attack on Gibeah. Thebattle was fierce; and the others knew nothing of the disaster impending.	34 10.000 hombres elegidos de todo Israel llegaron frente a Guibeá. El combate se endureció; los benjaminitas no se daban cuenta de la calamidad que se les venía encima.
35 Yahweh defeated Benjamin before Israel and that day the Israelites kil ed twenty-five thousand onehundred men of Benjamin, al of them trained swordsmen.	35 Yahveh derrotó a Benjamín ante Israel y aquel día los israelitas mataron en Benjamín a 25.100 hombres, todos ellos armados de espada.
36 The Benjaminites saw that they were beaten. The Israelites had given ground to Benjamin, since theywere relying on the ambush which they had positioned close to Gibeah.	36 Los benjaminitas se vieron derrotados. Los hombres de Israel habían cedido terreno a Benjamín porque contaban con la emboscada que habían puesto contra Guibeá.
37 The troops in ambush threw themselves against Gibeah at top speed; fanning out, they put the wholetown to the sword.	37 Los emboscados marcharon a toda prisa contra Guibeá, se desplegaron y pasaron a cuchillo a toda la ciudad.
38 Now it had been agreed between the Israelites and those of the ambush that the latter should raise asmoke signal from the town,	38 La gente de Israel y los emboscados habían convenido en levantar una humareda, como señal, desde la ciudad;
39 whereupon the Israelites in the thick of the battle would turn about. Benjamin began by kil ing some ofthe Israelites, about thirty men, and thought, 'We have certainly beaten them, as we did in the first battle.'	39 entonces harían frente a los combatientes de Israel. Benjamín comenzó matando a algunos israelitas, unos treinta hombres. Y se decían: «Están completamente derrotados ante nosotros, como en la primera batalla».
40 But the signal, a column of smoke, began to rise from the town, and the Benjaminites looking backsaw the whole town going up in flames to the sky.	40 Pero entonces, la señal, la columna de humo, comenzó a levantarse de la ciudad, y Benjamín, mirando atrás, vio que toda la ciudad subía en llamas al cielo.
41 The Israelites then turned about, and the Benjaminites were seized with terror, for they saw thatdisaster had struck them.	41 Entonces los hombres de Israel hicieron frente y los benjaminitas temblaron al ver la calamidad que se les venía encima.
42 They broke before the Israelite onslaught and made for the desert, but the fighters pressed themhard, while the others coming out of the town took and slaughtered them from the rear.	42 Volvieron la espalda ante la gente de Israel camino del desierto, pero los combatientes los acosaban, y los que venían de la ciudad los destrozaban cogiéndolos en medio.
43 They hemmed in the Benjaminites, pursued them relentlessly, crushing them opposite Gibeah on theeast.	43 Así envolvieron a Benjamín, lo persiguieron sin descanso y lo aplastaron hasta llegar frente a Gueba por el oriente.
44 Of Benjamin, eighteen thousand men fel , al of them brave men.	44 Cayeron de Benjamín 18.000 hombres, todos ellos hombres valerosos.
45 They then turned tail and fled into the desert, towards the Rock of Rimmon. Five thousand of themwere picked off on the roads, and the rest were relentlessly pursued as far as Gideon, two thousand of thembeing kil ed.	45 Volvieron la espalda y huyeron al desierto, hacia la Peña de Rimmón. Los israelitas fueron atrapando por los caminos a 5.000 hombres. Luego persiguieron a Benjamín hasta Guidom y le mataron 2.000 hombres.
46 The total number of Benjaminites who fel that day was twenty-five thousand swordsmen, al of thembrave men.	46 El tota de los benjaminitas que cayeron aquel día fue de 25.000 hombres, armados de espada, todos ellos hombres valerosos.
47 Six hundred men, however, turned tail and escaped into the desert, to the Rock of Rimmon, andthere they stayed for four months.	47 Seiscientos hombres habían podido volverse y escapar al desierto, hacia la Peña de Rimmón. Se quedaron en la Peña de Rimmón cuatro meses.
48 The men of Israel then went back to the Benjaminites, and put them to the sword-people, livestockand everything else that came their way in the town. And they fired all the towns involved.	48 Las tropas de Israel se volvieron contra los benjaminitas, y pasaron a cuchillo a los varones de la ciudad, al ganado, y a todo lo que encontraron. Incendiaron también todas las ciudades que encontraron.
