1 After Abimelech, Tola son of Puah, son of Dodo, rose to deliver Israel. He belonged to Issachar andlived at Shamir in the mountain country of Ephraim.	1 Dopo Abimèlech sorse a salvare Israele Tola, figlio di Pua, figlio di Dodo, della tribù di Issacar. Egli abitava a Samir, sulla montagna di Efraim.
2 He was judge in Israel for twenty-three years; he then died and was buried at Shamir.	2 Egli giudicò Israele per ventitré anni; poi morì e fu sepolto a Samir.
3 After him rose Jair of Gilead, who judged Israel for twenty-two years.	3 Dopo di lui sorse il galaadita Iair, il quale giudicò Israele per ventidue anni.

6 The Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes. They served Baal and Astarte, and thegods of Aram and Sidon, the gods of Moab and those of the Ammonites and Philistines. 10 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh and said, 'We have sinned against you, because we have turnedfrom Yahweh our God to serve Baals.'	10 Allora gli Israeliti gridarono al Signore: "Abbiamo peccato contro di te, perché abbiamo abbandonato il nostro Dio per prestare il nostro culto ai Baal".
11 And Yahweh said to the Israelites, 'When Egyptians and Amorites, Ammonites and Philistines,	11 Ma Dio rispose così agli Israeliti: "Quando gli Egiziani, gli Amorrei, gli Ammoniti, i Filistei,
12 when the Sidonians, Amalek and Midian oppressed you and you cried to me, did I not rescue youfrom their power?	12 i Sidoni, gli Amaleciti, i Cananei vi opprimevano, e voi alzavate il vostro grido a me, io vi ho salvato dalle loro mani.
13 But it is you who have forsaken me and served other gods; and so I shall rescue you no more.	13 Ma nonostante questo, voi mi avete abbandonato per servire altri dèi. Per questo non voglio più salvarvi!

15 The Israelites replied to Yahweh, 'We have sinned. Treat us as you see fit, but please rescue ustoday.'	15 Ripresero gli Israeliti: "Abbiamo peccato: fa' tu di noi tutto quello che vuoi; ma oggi liberaci, ti imploriamo!".
16 They got rid of their foreign gods and served Yahweh, who could bear Israel's suffering no longer.	16 Gli Israeliti allora eliminarono di mezzo a loro gli dèi stranieri e tornarono ad adorare il Signore, il cui animo non poté più resistere alle sofferenze d'Israele.
17 The Ammonites gathered and pitched camp in Gilead. The Israelites ral ied and pitched camp atMizpah.	17 Radunatisi, gli Ammoniti avevano posto il campo nel Gàlaad. Anche gli Israeliti si radunarono per andare ad accamparsi in Mizpa.
18 The people, the chieftains of Gilead, then said to one another, 'Who wil volunteer to attack theAmmonites? He shall be chief of al who live in Gilead!'	18 Intanto il popolo e i capi galaaditi cercavano chi sarebbe stato l'uomo che avrebbe intrapreso la guerra contro gli Ammoniti: sarebbe stato lui il capo di tutti i Galaaditi.
