Judges 10

1 After Abimelech, Tola son of Puah, son of Dodo, rose to deliver Israel. He belonged to Issachar andlived at Shamir in the mountain country of Ephraim.	1 Abimelek után Tóla, Fúának, Abimelek nagybátyjának fia lett Izrael vezére. Isszakárból való ember volt, s az Efraim hegységén levő Sámirban lakott.
2 He was judge in Israel for twenty-three years; he then died and was buried at Shamir.	2 Huszonhárom esztendeig bíráskodott Izraelen, aztán meghalt, és eltemették Sámirban.
3 After him rose Jair of Gilead, who judged Israel for twenty-two years.	3 Utána a gileádi Jaír következett. Ő huszonkét esztendeig bíráskodott Izraelen.
4 He had thirty sons who rode on thirty young donkeys and who owned thirty towns, stil known today asthe Encampments of Jair, in the territory of Gilead.	4 Harminc fia volt, akik harminc szamárcsikón nyargaltak, s harminc város fejedelmei voltak. Utóbbiakat az ő nevéről Hávót-Jaírnak, azaz Jaír városainak hívják mind a mai napig; Gileád földjén vannak.
5 Jair then died and was buried at Kamon.	5 Amikor Jaír meghalt, a Kámon nevű helységben temették el.
6 The Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes. They served Baal and Astarte, and thegods of Aram and Sidon, the gods of Moab and those of the Ammonites and Philistines. 7 Yahweh's anger then grew hot against Israel and he gave them over into the power of the Philistinesand the power of the Ammonites,	7 Ezért az Úr megharagudott rájuk, s a filiszteusoknak és Ammon fiainak a kezébe adta őket.
8 who from that year onwards crushed and oppressed the Israelites for eighteen years -- all thoseIsraelites living on the other side of the Jordan in Amorite territory, in Gilead.	8 Ezek tizennyolc esztendőn keresztül nagyon sanyargatták és nyomorgatták közülük mindazokat, akik a Jordánon túl, az amoriták földjén, Gileádban laktak,
9 Furthermore, the Ammonites would cross the Jordan and also make war on Judah, Benjamin and theHouse of Ephraim, so that Israel was in distress.	9 sőt Ammon fiai a Jordánon is átkeltek, hogy kifosszák Júdát, Benjamint és Efraimot. Így Izrael igen szorult helyzetbe került.
10 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh and said, 'We have sinned against you, because we have turnedfrom Yahweh our God to serve Baals.'	10 Ekkor az Úrhoz kiáltottak, s azt mondták: »Vétkeztünk ellened, mert elhagytuk a mi Istenünket, s a Baáloknak szolgáltunk.«
11 And Yahweh said to the Israelites, 'When Egyptians and Amorites, Ammonites and Philistines,	11 Azt mondta erre nekik az Úr: »Nemde az egyiptomiak, az amoriták, Ammon fiai, a filiszteusok,
12 when the Sidonians, Amalek and Midian oppressed you and you cried to me, did I not rescue youfrom their power?	12 a szidoniak, az amalekiták, a kánaániak szorongattak titeket, s amikor hozzám kiáltottatok, megszabadítottalak titeket kezükből?
13 But it is you who have forsaken me and served other gods; and so I shall rescue you no more.	13 Ti mégis elhagytatok engem, s más isteneket tiszteltetek! Ezért többé nem szabadítalak meg titeket:
14 Go and cry to the gods whom you have chosen. Let them rescue you in your time of trouble.'	14 menjetek, s hívjátok segítségül azokat az isteneket, akiket választottatok, azok szabadítsanak meg titeket szorongattatásotok idején.«
15 The Israelites replied to Yahweh, 'We have sinned. Treat us as you see fit, but please rescue ustoday.'	15 Azt mondták erre Izrael fiai az Úrnak: »Vétkeztünk, bánj velünk tetszésed szerint, csak most szabadíts meg minket.«
16 They got rid of their foreign gods and served Yahweh, who could bear Israel's suffering no longer.	16 Ezt mondták, s az idegen istenek valamennyi bálványképét eltávolították határaik közül, s az Úrnak, az ő Istenüknek szolgáltak. Erre ő megindult nyomorúságukon.
17 The Ammonites gathered and pitched camp in Gilead. The Israelites ral ied and pitched camp atMizpah.	17 Ekkoriban összegyülekeztek Ammon fiai és felütötték sátraikat Gileádban. Erre összegyűltek ellenük Izrael fiai és tábort ütöttek Micpában.
18 The people, the chieftains of Gilead, then said to one another, 'Who wil volunteer to attack theAmmonites? He shall be chief of al who live in Gilead!'	18 Azt mondták ekkor Gileád fejedelmei egymásnak: »Aki hadba vezet minket Ammon fiai ellen, legyen Gileád népének feje.«
