1 John 4

1 My dear friends, not every spirit is to be trusted, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,for many false prophets are at large in the world.	1 Carissimi, non vogliate credere ad ogni spirito, ma provate gli spiriti se son da Dio, perchè molti falsi profeti son venuti fuori nel mondo.
2 This is the proof of the spirit of God: any spirit which acknowledges Jesus Christ, come in humannature, is from God,	2 Or da questo si riconosce lo spirito di Dio: ogni spirito il quale confessa che Gesù Cristo è venuto in carne è da Dio;
3 and no spirit which fails to acknowledge Jesus is from God; it is the spirit of Antichrist, whose comingyou have heard of; he is already at large in the world.	3 invece ogni spirito che divide Gesù, non è da Dio, ma è un Anticristo, del quale avete sentito che deve venire e che già da ora è nel mondo.
4 Children, you are from God and have overcome them, because he who is in you is greater than he whois in the world.	4 Voi, figliolini, siete da Dio ed avete vinto l'Anticristo, perchè chi abita in voi è più potente di colui che sta nel mondo.
5 They are from the world, and therefore the world inspires what they say, and listens to them.	5 Essi son del mondo, e quindi parlan di mondo, e il mondo, li sta a sentire;
6 We are from God; whoever recognises God listens to us; anyone who is not from God refuses to listento us. This is how we can distinguish the spirit of truth from the spirit of falsehood.	6 noi invece siamo da Dio. Chi conosce Dio ci ascolta; chi non è da Dio non ci sta a sentire: da questo conosciamo lo spirito di verità e lo spirito d'errore.
7 My dear friends, let us love one another, since love is from God and everyone who loves is a child ofGod and knows God.	7 Carissimi, amiamoci l'un l'altro, perchè la carità viene da Dio, e chi ama è nato da Dio e conosce Dio.
8 Whoever fails to love does not know God, because God is love.	8 Chi non ama non ha imparato a conoscer Dio, perchè Dio è amore.
9 This is the revelation of God's love for us, that God sent his only Son into the world that we might havelife through him.	9 Da questo si rese manifesta la carità di Dio verso di noi, dall'avere egli mandato il suo Unigenito al mondo, affinchè per mezzo di lui avessimo la vita.
10 Love consists in this: it is not we who loved God, but God loved us and sent his Son to expiate oursins.	10 Quì sta la carità: non perchè noi abbiamo amato Dio, ma perchè Egli per il primo ci ha amati, ed ha mandato il suo Figliolo, vittima di propiziazione per i nostri peccati.
11 My dear friends, if God loved us so much, we too should love one another.	11 Carissimi, se Dio ci ha amati tanto, anche noi dobbiamo amarci l'un l'altro.
12 No one has ever seen God, but as long as we love one another God remains in us and his love comesto its perfection in us.	12 Dio non l'ha veduto nessuno; se ci amiamo l'un l'altro, Dio abita in noi, e la carità di lui è in noi perfetta.
13 This is the proof that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us a share in his Spirit.	13 Da questo conosciamo che siamo in lui e che egli è in noi, dal fatto che Egli ci ha dato del suo Spirito.
14 We ourselves have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as Saviour of the world.	14 Or noi che abbiamo veduto attestiamo che il Padre ha mandato il suo Figliolo ad essere Salvatore del mondo.
15 Anyone who acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God.	15 Se uno confesserà che Gesù è Figliolo di Dio, Dio abita in lui ed egli in Dio.
16 We have recognised for ourselves, and put our faith in, the love God has for us. God is love, andwhoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.	16 E noi abbiamo conosciuto la carità che Dio ha per noi, e vi abbiamo creduto. Dio è carità e chi rimane nella carità sta in Dio, e Dio dimora in lui.
17 Love comes to its perfection in us when we can face the Day of Judgement fearlessly, because evenin this world we have become as he is.	17 La perfetta carità di Dio in noi esige che abbiamo fiducia pel giorno del giudizio, perchè quale è Cristo, tali siamo anche noi in questo mondo.
18 In love there is no room for fear, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear implies punishment andno one who is afraid has come to perfection in love.	18 Il timore non sta bene colla carità; anzi la carità perfetta manda via ogni timore, perchè il timore suppone il castigo; quindi chi teme non è perfetto nella carità.
19 Let us love, then, because he first loved us.	19 Amiamo dunque Dio, perchè Egli pel primo ci ha amati.
20 Anyone who says 'I love God' and hates his brother, is a liar, since whoever does not love the brotherwhom he can see cannot love God whom he has not seen.	20 Se uno dirà: « Io amo Dio » e odia il fratello, egli è un bugiardo, perchè chi non ama il fratello, che vede, come può amare Dio, che non vede?
21 Indeed this is the commandment we have received from him, that whoever loves God, must also lovehis brother.	21 Ecco il comandamento che abbiamo ricevuto da Dio: chi ama Dio, ami anche il proprio fratello.
