NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
Something which has existed since the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with ourown eyes, which we have watched and touched with our own hands, the Word of life -- this is our theme.1 Quod fuit ab initio, quod audi vimus, quod vidimus oculis no stris, quodperspeximus, et manus nostrae contrectaverunt de verbo vitae
That life was made visible; we saw it and are giving our testimony, declaring to you the eternal life,which was present to the Father and has been revealed to us.2 — et vitaapparuit, et vidimus et testamur et annuntiamus vobis vitam aeternam, quae eratcoram Patre et apparuit nobis —
We are declaring to you what we have seen and heard, so that you too may share our life. Our life isshared with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.3 quod vidimus et audivimus, annuntiamus etvobis, ut et vos communionem habeatis nobiscum. Communio autem nostra est cumPatre et cum Filio eius Iesu Christo.
We are writing this to you so that our joy may be complete.4 Et haec scribimus nos, ut gaudiumnostrum sit plenum.
This is what we have heard from him and are declaring to you: God is light, and there is no darkness inhim at al .5 Et haec est annuntiatio, quam audivimus ab eo etannuntiamus vobis, quoniam Deus lux est, et tenebrae in eo non sunt ullae.
If we say that we share in God's life while we are living in darkness, we are lying, because we are notliving the truth.6 Si dixerimus quoniam communionem habemus cum eo, et in tenebris ambulamus,mentimur et non facimus veritatem;
But if we live in light, as he is in light, we have a share in another's life, and the blood of Jesus, his Son,cleanses us from all sin.7 si autem in luce ambulemus, sicut ipse estin luce, communionem habemus ad invicem, et sanguis Iesu Filii eius mundat nosab omni peccato.
If we say, 'We have no sin,' we are deceiving ourselves, and truth has no place in us;8 Si dixerimus quoniam peccatum non habemus, nosmetipsos seducimus, et veritasin nobis non est.
if we acknowledge our sins, he is trustworthy and upright, so that he will forgive our sins and wilcleanse us from all evil.9 Si confiteamur peccata nostra, fidelis est et iustus, utremittat nobis peccata et emundet nos ab omni iniustitia.
If we say, 'We have never sinned,' we make him a liar, and his word has no place in us.10 Si dixerimusquoniam non peccavimus, mendacem facimus eum, et verbum eius non est in nobis.
