NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith as precious as ourown, given through the saving justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.	1 Simeone Pietro, servo e apostolo di Gesù Cristo, a coloro che hanno ricevuto la fede, ugualmente preziosa, che abbiamo ricevuto noi nella giustizia del nostro Dio e salvatore Gesù Cristo.
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of our Lord.	2 Grazia e pace abbondino per voi, in una conoscenza approfondita di Dio e di Gesù Cristo Signore nostro.
3 By his divine power, he has lavished on us all the things we need for life and for true devotion, throughthe knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness.	3 E' la sua potenza divina che ci ha fatto dono di tutto quello che ci serve per la vita e la pietà, in una conoscenza approfondita di colui che ci ha chiamati in virtù della propria gloria e della propria forza,
4 Through these, the greatest and priceless promises have been lavished on us, that through them youshould share the divine nature and escape the corruption rife in the world through disordered passion.	4 poiché ci è stato fatto il dono di promesse valide ed eccezionali, in modo che diventaste per mezzo di esse partecipi della natura divina, fuggendo la corruzione che si trova nelle passioni sfrenate del mondo.
5 With this in view, do your utmost to support your faith with goodness, goodness with understanding,	5 E proprio per questo, mettendo in atto tutta la vostra diligenza, aggiungete la virtù alla fede, la conoscenza alla virtù,
6 understanding with self-control, self-control with perseverance, perseverance with devotion,	6 l'autodominio alla conoscenza, la costanza all'autodominio, la pietà alla costanza,
7 devotion with kindness to the brothers, and kindness to the brothers with love.	7 la carità fraterna alla pietà, l'amore alla carità fraterna.
8 The possession and growth of these qualities wil prevent your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ frombeing ineffectual or unproductive.	8 Tutte queste qualità, se saranno presenti e abbonderanno in voi, vi permetteranno di non essere inerti e infruttuosi nella conoscenza approfondita del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
9 But without them, a person is blind or short-sighted, forgetting how the sins of the past were washedaway.	9 Chi invece è privo di queste qualità è un cieco che sbatte le palpebre, dimentico della purificazione avvenuta dei suoi peccati di un tempo.
10 Instead of this, brothers, never allow your choice or cal ing to waver; then there wil be no danger ofyour stumbling,	10 Perciò ancora di più, fratelli, studiatevi di rendere salda la vocazione e la scelta di cui siete stati fatti oggetto: facendo questo mai subirete un danno.
11 for in this way you wil be given the generous gift of entry to the eternal kingdom of our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ.	11 Così infatti vi sarà elargito doviziosamente l'ingresso nel regno eterno del Signore nostro e salvatore Gesù Cristo.
12 That is why I wil always go on recal ing the same truths to you, even though you already know themand are firmly fixed in these truths.	12 Perciò non cesserò mai dal richiamarvi alla mente queste cose, anche se voi le sapete e nella verità posseduta vi siete già consolidati tra di voi.
13 I am sure it is my duty, as long as I am in this tent, to keep stirring you up with reminders,	13 Ritengo opportuno fin quando mi trovo ad abitare in questa tenda, continuare a stimolarvi con la mia esortazione,
14 since I know the time for me to lay aside this tent is coming soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clearto me.	14 sapendo che il tempo di levare la mia tenda è vicino, come anche il Signore nostro Gesù Cristo mi manifestò.
15 And I shal take great care that after my own departure you will stil have a means to recal thesethings to mind.	15 Mi darò premura che voi possiate in qualunque tempo, dopo la mia partenza, rievocare queste cose.
16 When we told you about the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not slavishlyrepeating cleverly invented myths; no, we had seen his majesty with our own eyes.	16 Poiché non abbiamo seguito dei miti sofisticati per manifestarvi la forza e il ritorno del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo: siamo stati invece spettatori oculari della sua grandezza.
17 He was honoured and glorified by God the Father, when a voice came to him from the transcendentGlory, This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour.	17 Poiché egli ricevette onore e gloria da Dio Padre quando, da parte di quella stessa gloria sublime, gli fu rivolta una voce che diceva: "Il Figlio mio, l'amato, è costui e io in lui mi sono compiaciuto".
18 We ourselves heard this voice from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.	18 Questa voce noi l'udimmo rivolta dal cielo, quando stavamo con lui sul monte santo.
19 So we have confirmation of the words of the prophets; and you wil be right to pay attention to it as to a lamp for lighting a way through the dark, until the dawn comes and the morning star rises in your minds.	19 E abbiamo resa così più solida la parola dei profeti cui fate bene ad attenervi: è come una lucerna che brilla in un luogo tenebroso, fino a quando non cominci a splendere il giorno e la stella del mattino spunti nei vostri cuori.
20 At the same time, we must recognise that the interpretation of scriptural prophecy is never a matter forthe individual.	20 Sappiate anzitutto questo: a nessuna profezia della Scrittura compete un'interpretazione soggettiva.
21 For no prophecy ever came from human initiative. When people spoke for God it was the Holy Spiritthat moved them.	21 La profezia infatti non ci fu portata per iniziativa umana, ma degli uomini parlarono da parte di Dio, sospinti dallo Spirito Santo.
