1 Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith as precious as ourown, given through the saving justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.	1 Simeón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo les ha cabido en suerte una fe tan preciosa como la nuestra.
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of our Lord.	2 A vosotros, gracia y paz abundantes por el conocimiento de nuestro Señor.
3 By his divine power, he has lavished on us all the things we need for life and for true devotion, throughthe knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness.	3 Pues su divino poder nos ha concedido cuanto se refiere a la vida y a la piedad, mediante el conocimiento perfecto del que nos ha llamado por su propia gloria y virtud,
4 Through these, the greatest and priceless promises have been lavished on us, that through them youshould share the divine nature and escape the corruption rife in the world through disordered passion.	4 por medio de las cuales nos han sido concedidas las preciosas y sublimes promesas, para que por ellas os hicierais partícipes de la naturaleza divina, huyendo de la corrupción que hay en el mundo por la concupiscencia.
5 With this in view, do your utmost to support your faith with goodness, goodness with understanding,	5 Por esta misma razón, poned el mayor empeño en añadir a vuestra fe la virtud, a la virtud el conocimiento,
6 understanding with self-control, self-control with perseverance, perseverance with devotion,	6 al conocimiento la templanza, a la templanza la tenacidad, a la tenacidad la piedad,
7 devotion with kindness to the brothers, and kindness to the brothers with love.	7 a la piedad el amor fraterno, al amor fraterno la caridad.
8 The possession and growth of these qualities wil prevent your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ frombeing ineffectual or unproductive.	8 Pues si tenéis estas cosas y las tenéis en abundancia, no os dejarán inactivos ni estériles para el conocimiento perfecto de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
9 But without them, a person is blind or short-sighted, forgetting how the sins of the past were washedaway.	9 Quien no las tenga es ciego y corto de vista; ha echado al olvido la purificación de sus pecados pasados.
10 Instead of this, brothers, never allow your choice or cal ing to waver; then there wil be no danger ofyour stumbling,	10 Por tanto, hermanos, poned el mayor empeño en afianzar vuestra vocación y vuestra elección. Obrando así nunca caeréis.
11 for in this way you wil be given the generous gift of entry to the eternal kingdom of our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ.	11 Pues así se os dará amplia entrada en el Reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.
12 That is why I wil always go on recal ing the same truths to you, even though you already know themand are firmly fixed in these truths.	12 Por esto, estaré siempre recordándoos estas cosas, aunque ya las sepáis y estéis firmes en la verdad que poseéis.
13 I am sure it is my duty, as long as I am in this tent, to keep stirring you up with reminders,	13 Me parece justo, mientras me encuentro en esta tienda, estimularos con el recuerdo,
14 since I know the time for me to lay aside this tent is coming soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clearto me.	14 sabiendo que pronto tendré que dejar mi tienda, según me lo ha manifestado nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
15 And I shal take great care that after my own departure you will stil have a means to recal thesethings to mind.	15 Pero pondré empeño en que, en todo monento, después de mi partida, podáis recordar estas cosas.
16 When we told you about the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not slavishlyrepeating cleverly invented myths; no, we had seen his majesty with our own eyes.	16 Os hemos dado a conocer el poder y la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, no siguiendo fábulas ingeniosas, sino después de haber visto con nuestros propios ojos su majestad.
17 He was honoured and glorified by God the Father, when a voice came to him from the transcendentGlory, This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour.	17 Porque recibió de Dios Padre honor y gloria, cuando la sublime Gloria le dirigió esta voz: «Este es mi Hijo muy amado en quien me complazco».
18 We ourselves heard this voice from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.	18 Nosotros mismos escuchamos esta voz, venida del cielo, estando con él en el monte santo.
19 So we have confirmation of the words of the prophets; and you wil be right to pay attention to it as to a lamp for lighting a way through the dark, until the dawn comes and the morning star rises in your minds.	19 Y así se nos hace más firme la palabra de los profetas, a la cual hacéis bien en prestar atención, como a lámpara que luce en lugar oscuro, hasta que despunte el día y se levante en vuestros corazones el lucero de la mañana.
20 At the same time, we must recognise that the interpretation of scriptural prophecy is never a matter forthe individual.	20 Pero, ante todo, tened presente que ninguna profecía de la Escritura puede interpretarse por cuenta propia;
21 For no prophecy ever came from human initiative. When people spoke for God it was the Holy Spiritthat moved them.	21 porque nunca profecía alguna ha venido por voluntad humana, sino que hombres movidos por el Espíritu Santo, han hablado de parte de Dios.
