1 Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith as precious as ourown, given through the saving justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.	1 Simon Péter, Jézus Krisztus szolgája és apostola, azoknak, akik velünk egyenlő hitben részesültek a mi Istenünknek és az üdvözítő Jézus Krisztusnak igazságossága által.
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of our Lord.	2 Kegyelem és békesség töltsön el benneteket Isten és a mi Urunk Jézus ismeretében!
3 By his divine power, he has lavished on us all the things we need for life and for true devotion, throughthe knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness.	3 Mindazokat a javakat, amelyek az élethez és az istenfélelemhez szükségesek, az isteni hatalom ajándékozta nekünk azáltal, hogy megismertük őt, aki minket saját dicsőségével és erejével meghívott.
4 Through these, the greatest and priceless promises have been lavished on us, that through them youshould share the divine nature and escape the corruption rife in the world through disordered passion.	4 Ezek által nekünk ajándékozta az értékes és rendkívül nagy ígéreteket, hogy általuk részeseivé legyetek az isteni természetnek, és megmeneküljetek a világban uralkodó vágyak okozta romlottságtól.
5 With this in view, do your utmost to support your faith with goodness, goodness with understanding,	5 Fordítsátok tehát minden gondotokat arra, hogy hitetekkel szolgáljátok az erényt, az erénnyel a tudományt,
6 understanding with self-control, self-control with perseverance, perseverance with devotion,	6 a tudománnyal a mértékletességet, a mértékletességgel a béketűrést,

8 The possession and growth of these qualities wil prevent your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ frombeing ineffectual or unproductive.	8 Mert ha ezek megvannak, és bőven vannak meg bennetek, nem lesztek tétlenek, sem meddők a mi Urunk Jézus Krisztus megismerésében.
9 But without them, a person is blind or short-sighted, forgetting how the sins of the past were washedaway.	9 Akiben viszont nincsenek meg ezek, az vak és rövidlátó, s megfeledkezett a régi bűneiből való megtisztulásáról.
10 Instead of this, brothers, never allow your choice or cal ing to waver; then there wil be no danger ofyour stumbling,	10 Ezért annál inkább legyetek rajta, testvérek, hogy biztossá tegyétek hivatásotokat és kiválasztásotokat, mert ha ezt teszitek, soha nem fogtok elbotlani.
11 for in this way you wil be given the generous gift of entry to the eternal kingdom of our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ.	11 Így ugyanis tágas bejárat nyílik nektek a mi Urunk és üdvözítő Jézus Krisztusunk örök országába.
12 That is why I wil always go on recal ing the same truths to you, even though you already know themand are firmly fixed in these truths.	12 Ennélfogva azon vagyok, hogy ezekre mindig figyelmeztesselek benneteket, jóllehet jártasak és erősek vagytok az elnyert igazságban.
13 I am sure it is my duty, as long as I am in this tent, to keep stirring you up with reminders,	13 Helyesnek tartom mégis, hogy amíg testem sátorában időzöm, figyelmeztesselek és serkentselek benneteket,

17 He was honoured and glorified by God the Father, when a voice came to him from the transcendentGlory, This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour.	17 Mikor ugyanis az Atyaistentől tiszteletet és dicsőséget nyert, ez a szózat hangzott hozzá a magasztos dicsőségből: »Ez az én szeretett fiam, akiben kedvem telik!«
18 We ourselves heard this voice from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.	18 Mi hallottuk ezt az égből jövő szózatot, amikor vele voltunk a szent hegyen.
19 So we have confirmation of the words of the prophets; and you wil be right to pay attention to it as to a lamp for lighting a way through the dark, until the dawn comes and the morning star rises in your minds.	19 És súlyos prófétai beszéd birtokában vagyunk, amelyre jól teszitek, ha figyeltek, mint sötét helyen világító lámpásra, amíg a nap fel nem virrad, és a hajnalcsillag fel nem kél szívetekben.
20 At the same time, we must recognise that the interpretation of scriptural prophecy is never a matter forthe individual.	20 Mindenekelőtt azt kell megértenetek, hogy az Írás egyetlen prófétai beszéde sem egyéni értelmezés dolga.
21 For no prophecy ever came from human initiative. When people spoke for God it was the Holy Spiritthat moved them.	21 Mert sohasem emberi akaratból származott a prófétai beszéd, hanem Isten szent emberei a Szentlélektől sugalmazva szóltak.
