NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 We ought, then, to turn our minds more attentively than before to what we have been taught, so that wedo not drift away.	1 Por isso, é necessário prestarmos a maior atenção à mensagem que temos recebido, para não acontecer que nos desviemos do caminho reto.
2 If a message that was spoken through angels proved to be so reliable that every infringement anddisobedience brought its own proper punishment,	2 A palavra anunciada por intermédio dos anjos era a tal ponto válida, que toda transgressão ou desobediência recebeu o justo castigo.
3 then we shal certainly not go unpunished if we neglect such a great salvation. It was first announced bythe Lord himself, and is guaranteed to us by those who heard him;	3 Como, então, escaparemos nós se agora desprezarmos a mensagem da salvação, tão sublime, anunciada primeiramente pelo Senhor e depois confirmada pelos que a ouviram,
4 God himself confirmed their witness with signs and marvels and miracles of al kinds, and bydistributing the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the various ways he wil s.	4 comprovando-a o próprio Deus por sinais, prodígios, milagres e pelos dons do Espírito Santo, repartidos segundo a sua vontade?
5 It was not under angels that he put the world to come, about which we are speaking.	5 Não foi tampouco aos anjos que Deus submeteu o mundo vindouro, de que falamos.
6 Someone witnesses to this somewhere with the words: What are human beings that you spare athought for them, a child of Adam that you care for him?	6 Alguém em certa passagem afirmou: Que é o homem para que dele te lembres, ou o filho do homem, para que o visites?
7 For a short while you have made him less than the angels; you have crowned him with glory andhonour,	7 Por pouco tempo o colocaste inferior aos anjos; de glória e de honra o coroaste,
8 put al things under his feet. For in putting al things under him he made no exceptions. At present, it istrue, we are not able to see that all things are under him,	8 e sujeitaste a seus pés todas as coisas {Sl 8,5s}. Ora, se lhe sujeitou todas as coisas, nada deixou que não lhe ficasse sujeito. Atualmente, é verdade, não vemos que tudo lhe esteja sujeito.
9 but we do see Jesus, who was for a short while made less than the angels, now crowned with glory andhonour because he submitted to death; so that by God's grace his experience of death should benefit allhumanity.	9 Mas aquele que fora colocado por pouco tempo abaixo dos anjos, Jesus, nós o vemos, por sua Paixão e morte, coroado de glória e de honra. Assim, pela graça de Deus, a sua morte aproveita a todos os homens.
10 It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should, in bringing many sons toglory, make perfect through suffering the leader of their salvation.	10 Aquele para quem e por quem todas as coisas existem, desejando conduzir à glória numerosos filhos, deliberou elevar à perfeição, pelo sofrimento, o autor da salvação deles,
11 For consecrator and consecrated are al of the same stock; that is why he is not ashamed to call thembrothers	11 para que santificador e santificados formem um só todo. Por isso, {Jesus} não hesita em chamá-los seus irmãos,
12 in the text: I shal proclaim your name to my brothers, praise you in full assembly; or in the text:	12 dizendo: Anunciarei teu nome a meus irmãos, no meio da assembléia cantarei os teus louvores {Sl 21,23}.
13 I shal put my hope in him; fol owed by Look, I and the children whom God has given me.	13 E outra vez: Quanto a mim, ponho nele a minha confiança {Is 8,17}; e: Eis-me aqui, eu e os filhos que Deus me deu {Is 8,18}.
14 Since al the children share the same human nature, he too shared equal y in it, so that by his deathhe could set aside him who held the power of death, namely the devil,	14 Porquanto os filhos participam da mesma natureza, da mesma carne e do sangue, também ele participou, a fim de destruir pela morte aquele que tinha o império da morte, isto é, o demônio,
15 and set free al those who had been held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.	15 e libertar aqueles que, pelo medo da morte, estavam toda a vida sujeitos a uma verdadeira escravidão.
16 For it was not the angels that he took to himself; he took to himself the line of Abraham.	16 Veio em socorro, não dos anjos, e sim da raça de Abraão;
17 It was essential that he should in this way be made completely like his brothers so that he couldbecome a compassionate and trustworthy high priest for their relationship to God, able to expiate the sins of thepeople.	17 e por isso convinha que ele se tornasse em tudo semelhante aos seus irmãos, para ser um pontífice compassivo e fiel no serviço de Deus, capaz de expiar os pecados do povo.
18 For the suffering he himself passed through while being put to the test enables him to help otherswhen they are being put to the test.	18 De fato, por ter ele mesmo suportado tribulações, está em condição de vir em auxílio dos que são atribulados.
