You may be quite sure that in the last days there will be some difficult times.1 And know this: that in the last days perilous times will press near.
People wil be self-centred and avaricious, boastful, arrogant and rude; disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, irreligious;2 Men will be lovers of themselves, greedy, self-exalting, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked,
heartless and intractable; they wil be slanderers, profligates, savages and enemies of everything that isgood;3 without affection, without peace, false accusers, unchaste, cruel, without kindness,
they wil be treacherous and reckless and demented by pride, preferring their own pleasure to God.4 traitorous, reckless, self-important, loving pleasure more than God,
They wil keep up the outward appearance of religion but wil have rejected the inner power of it. Keepaway from people like that.5 even having the appearance of piety while rejecting its virtue. And so, avoid them.
Of the same kind, too, are those men who insinuate themselves into families in order to get influenceover sil y women who are obsessed with their sins and follow one craze after another,6 For among these are ones who penetrate houses and lead away, like captives, foolish women burdened with sins, who are led away by means of various desires,
always seeking learning, but unable ever to come to knowledge of the truth.7 always learning, yet never achieving knowledge of the truth.
Just as Jannes and Jambres defied Moses, so these men defy the truth, their minds corrupt and theirfaith spurious.8 And in the same manner that Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so also will these resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobates from the faith.
But they will not be able to go on much longer: their fol y, like that of the other two, must become obviousto everybody.9 But they will not advance beyond a certain point. For the folly of the latter shall be made manifest to all, just as that of the former.
You, though, have followed my teaching, my way of life, my aims, my faith, my patience and my love,my perseverance10 But you have fully comprehended my doctrine, instruction, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,
and the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in places like Antioch, Iconium and Lystra -- althe persecutions I have endured; and the Lord has rescued me from every one of them.11 persecutions, afflictions; such things as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; how I endured persecutions, and how the Lord rescued me from everything.
But anybody who tries to live in devotion to Christ is certain to be persecuted;12 And all those who willingly live the piety in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
while these wicked impostors wil go from bad to worse, deceiving others, and themselves deceived.13 But evil men and deceivers will advance in evil, erring and sending into error.
You must keep to what you have been taught and know to be true; remember who your teachers were,14 Yet truly, you should remain in those things which you have learned and which have been entrusted to you. For you know from whom you have learned them.
and how, ever since you were a child, you have known the holy scriptures -from these you can learnthe wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.15 And, from your infancy, you have known the Sacred Scriptures, which are able to instruct you toward salvation, through the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Al scripture is inspired by God and useful for refuting error, for guiding people's lives and teachingthem to be upright.16 All Scripture, having been divinely inspired, is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in justice,
This is how someone who is dedicated to God becomes ful y equipped and ready for any good work.17 so that the man of God may be perfect, having been trained for every good work.
