1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 Non rimproverare l'uomo d'età, ma pregalo come un padre; i giovani, come fratelli,
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 le attempate, come madri; le giovani, come sorelle, con tutta purezza.
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Onora le vedove, quelle che sono tali veramente.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 Ma se una vedova ha dei figlioli o dei nipoti, impari prima a governare la sua casa, a rendere il contraccambio ai genitori, essendo questo gradito davanti a Dio.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 Quella poi che è veramente vedova e sola al mondo, speri in Dio e perseveri notte e giorno nelle suppliche e nelle preghiere:
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 quella che si abbandona ai piaceri, anche vivendo, è morta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 Fa loro queste raccomandazioni affinchè siano irreprensibili.
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Che se uno non pensa ai suoi, e specialmente a quelli di casa, ha rinnegata la fede, ed è peggiore d'un infedele.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 La vedova da eleggersi non abbia meno di sessant'anni, sia stata moglie di un solo marito,
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 e sia stimata per le sue buone opere, per aver cioè allevati i figlioli, praticata l'ospitalità, lavati i piedi ai santi, dato soccorso agli infelici, per esser stata dietro ad ogni opera buona.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 Ma scarta le vedove giovani, perchè dopo essersi abbandonate alla mollezza nel servizio di Cristo, bramano rimaritarsi;
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 e sono da condannarsi per aver rotta la prima fede,
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 e nel medesimo tempo, essendo sfaccendate, s'abituano a gironzare per le case, e non sfaccendate soltanto, ma cianciatrici, e curiose, cinguettando di ciò che non conviene.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Voglio dunque che le giovani prendano marito, rilevino i figlioli, facciano da madri di famiglia e non diano da ridire all'avversario,
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 perché alcune si son già sviate per seguitare Satana.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Se un fedele ha delle vedove, le mantenga lui e non ne sia aggravata la Chiesa, affinchè essa possa mantenere quelle che veramente sono vedove.
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 I preti che governano bene sian reputati degni di doppio onore, specialmente quelli che si affaticano nella predicazione e nell'insegnamento.
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 Dice infatti la Scrittura: « Non metter la museruola al bue che trebbia », « degno è l'operaio della sua mercede ».
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 Contro un prete non ricevere accuse, se non son provate da due o tre testimoni;
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 ma quelli che mancano riprendili in faccia a tutti, affinchè ne temano anche gli altri.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Ti scongiuro dinanzi à Dio, a Cristo Gesù e agli Angeli eletti, d'osservare queste cose senza prevenzione, e di non far nulla con parzialità.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 Non aver fretta d'imporre le mani ad alcuno, e non prender parte ai peccati degli altri. Conservati puro.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 Non continuare a bere soltanto acqua, ma fa uso d'un po' di vino a causa del tuo stomaco e delle tue frequenti malattie.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 I peccati di certe persone sono manifesti avanti il giudizio, altri invece si scoprono dopo;
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 così pure accade che le buone opere son manifeste; e quelle che non lo sono non possono tenersi nascoste.
