1 Timothy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 Al anciano no le reprendas con dureza, sino exhórtale como a un padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos;
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 a los ancianas, como a madres; a las jóvenes, como a hermanas, con toda pureza.
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Honra a las viudas, a las que son verdaderamente viudas.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 Si una viuda tiene hijos o nietos, que aprendan éstos primero a practicar los deberes de piedad para con los de su propia familia y a corresponder a sus progenitores, porque esto es agradable a Dios.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 Pero la que de verdad es viuda y ha quedado enteramente sola, tiene puesta su esperanza en el Señor y perservera en sus plegarias y oraciones noche y día.
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 La que, en cambio, está entregada a los placeres aunque viva, está muerta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 Todo esto incúlcalo también, para que sean irreprensibles.
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Si alguien no tiene cuidado de los suyos, principalmente de sus familiares, ha renegado de la fe y es peor que un infiel.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 Que la viuda que sea inscrita en el catálogo de las viudas no tenga menos de sesenta años, haya estado casada una sola vez,
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 y tenga el testimonio de sus buenas obras: haber educado bien a los hijos, practicado la hospitalidad, lavado los pies de los santos, socorrido a los atribulados, y haberse ejercitado en toda clase de buenas obras.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 Descarta, en cambio, a las viudas jóvenes, porque cuando les asaltan los placeres contrarios a Cristo, quieren casarse
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 e incurren así en condenación por haber faltado a su compromiso anterior.
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 Y además, estando ociosas, aprenden a ir de casa en casa; y no sólo están ociosas, sino que se vuelven también charlatanas y entrometidas, hablando de lo que no deben.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Quiero, pues, que las jóvenes se casen, que tengan hijos y que gobiernen la propia casa y no den al adversario ningún motivo de hablar mal;
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 pues ya algunas se han extraviado yendo en pos de Satanás.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Si alguna creyente tiene viudas, atiéndalas ella misma y no las cargue a la Iglesia, a fin de que ésta pueda atender a las que sean verdaderamente viudas.
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 Los presbíteros que ejercen bien su cargo merecen doble remuneración, principalmente los que se afanan en la predicación y en la enseñanza.
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 La Escritura, en efecto, dice: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla, y también: El obrero tiene derecho a su salario.
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 No admitas ninguna acusación contra un presbítero si no viene con el testimonio de dos o tres.
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 A los culpables, repréndeles delante de todos, para que los demás cobren temor.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Yo te conjuro en presencia de Dios, de Cristo Jesús y de los ángeles escogidos, que observes estas recomendaciones sin dejarte llevar de prejuicios ni favoritismos.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 No te precipites en imponer a nadie las manos, no te hagas partícipe de los pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 No bebas ya agua sola. Toma un poco de vino a causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes indisposiciones.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 Los pecados de algunas personas son notorios aun antes de que sean investigados; en cambio los de otras, lo son solamente después.
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 Del mismo modo las obras buenas son manifiestas; y las que no lo son, no pueden quedar ocultas.
