1 Timothy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 Ao ancião não repreendas com aspereza, mas adverte-o como a um pai, aos moços como a irmãos,
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 às mulheres de idade como a mães, às jovens como a irmãs, com toda a pureza.
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Honra as viúvas que são realmente viúvas.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 Se uma viúva tem filhos ou netos, como primeira obrigação aprendam estes a exercer com a própria família o dever da piedade filial e a retribuir aos pais o que deles receberam, porque isto é agradável a Deus.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 Mas a que verdadeiramente é viúva e desamparada, põe a sua esperança em Deus e persevera noite e dia em orações e súplicas.
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 Aquela, pelo contrário, que vive nos prazeres, embora viva, está morta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 Recorda-lhes isto, para que sejam irrepreensíveis.
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Quem se descuida dos seus, e principalmente dos de sua própria família, é um renegado, pior que um infiel.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 Poderá ser inscrita como viúva apenas quem tenha pelo menos sessenta anos de idade, casada uma só vez,
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 conhecida pelo seu bom comportamento, tenha educado bem os filhos, exercido a hospitalidade, lavado os pés dos santos, socorrido os infelizes e praticado toda espécie de boas obras.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 Não admitas viúvas jovens, porque, ao sentirem os atrativos da paixão contrária a Cristo, quererão casar-se outra vez
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 e incorrerão na censura de ter violado o primeiro compromisso.
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 Além disso, habituam-se a andar ociosas de casa em casa; e não só ociosas, mas também indiscretas e curiosas, falando coisas que não devem.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Quero, pois, que as viúvas jovens se casem, cumpram os deveres de mãe e cuidem do próprio lar, para não dar a ninguém ensejo de crítica.
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 Algumas já se perverteram, para irem após Satanás.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Se algum fiel tem viúvas em casa, procure dar-lhes assistência, de tal maneira que elas não sejam um peso para a Igreja, a fim de que esta possa socorrer as que verdadeiramente são viúvas.
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 Os presbíteros que desempenham bem o encargo de presidir sejam honrados com dupla remuneração, principalmente os que trabalham na pregação e no ensino.
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 Pois diz a Escritura: Não atarás a boca ao boi quando ele pisar o grão {Dt 25,4}; e ainda: O operário é digno do seu salário {Lc 10,7}.
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 Não recebas acusação contra um presbítero, senão por duas ou três testemunhas.
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 Aos que faltam às suas obrigações, repreende-os diante de todos, para que também os demais se atemorizem.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Eu te conjuro, diante de Deus e de Cristo Jesus e dos anjos escolhidos, a que guardes essas regras sem prevenção, nada fazendo por espírito de parcialidade.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 A ninguém imponhas as mãos inconsideradamente, para que não venhas a tornar-te cúmplice dos pecados alheios. Conserva-te puro.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 Não continues a beber só água, mas toma também um pouco de vinho, por causa do teu estômago e das tuas freqüentes indisposições.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 Os pecados dos homens às vezes são conhecidos já antes de levados a juízo; outras vezes o serão depois.
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 Da mesma forma, as boas obras: ou já são manifestas ou não poderão permanecer ocultas.
