1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 NON isgridar l’uomo attempato, ma esortalo come padre,
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 i giovani come fratelli, le donne attempate come madri, le giovani come sorelle, in ogni castità
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Onora le vedove, che son veramente vedove.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 Ma, se alcuna vedova ha dei figliuoli, o de’ nipoti, imparino essi imprima d’usar pietà inverso que’ di casa loro, e rendere il cambio a’ loro antenati; perciocchè quest’è buono ed accettevole nel cospetto di Dio.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 Or quella che è veramente vedova, e lasciata sola, spera in Dio, e persevera in preghiere ed orazioni, notte e giorno.
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 Ma la voluttuosa, vivendo, è morta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 Anche queste cose annunzia, acciocchè sieno irreprensibili.
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Che se alcuno non provvede ai suoi, e principalmente a que’ di casa sua, egli ha rinnegata la fede, ed è peggiore che un infedele.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 Sia la vedova assunta nel numero delle vedove, non di minore età che di sessant’anni, la qual sia stata moglie d’un sol marito.
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 Che abbia testimonianza d’opere buone: se ha nudriti i suoi figliuoli, se ha albergati i forestieri, se ha lavati i piedi dei santi, se ha sovvenuti gli afflitti, se del continuo è ita dietro ad ogni buona opera.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 Ma rifiuta le vedove più giovani, perciocchè, dopo che hanno lussuriato contro a Cristo, vogliono maritarsi,
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 avendo condannazione, perciocchè hanno rotta la prima fede.
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 Ed anche, essendo, oltre a ciò, oziose, imparano ad andare attorno per le case; e non sol sono oziose, ma anche cianciatrici e curiose, parlando di cose che non si convengono.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Io voglio adunque che le giovani vedove si maritino, faccian figliuoli, sieno madri di famiglia, non dieno all’avversario alcuna occasione di maldicenza.
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 Poichè già alcune si sono sviate dietro a Satana.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Se alcun uomo, o donna fedele, ha delle vedove, sovvenga loro, e non sia la chiesa gravata, acciocchè possa bastare a sovvenir quelle che son veramente vedove
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 GLI anziani, che fanno bene l’ufficio della presidenza, sien reputati degni di doppio onore; principalmente quelli che faticano nella parola e nella dottrina.
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 Perciocchè la scrittura dice: Non metter la museruola in bocca al bue che trebbia; e: L’operaio è degno del suo premio.
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 Non ricevere accusa contro all’anziano, se non in su due o tre testimoni.
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 Riprendi, nel cospetto di tutti, quelli che peccano; acciocchè gli altri ancora abbian timore.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Io ti scongiuro davanti a Dio, e il Signor Gesù Cristo, e gli angeli eletti, che tu osservi queste cose senza pregiudicio, non facendo nulla per parzialità.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 Non imporre tosto le mani ad alcuno, e non partecipare i peccati altrui; conserva te stesso puro.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 Non usar più per l’innanzi acqua sola nel tuo bere, ma usa un poco di vino, per lo tuo stomaco, e per le frequenti tue infermità.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 D’alcuni uomini i peccati son manifesti, prima che sian giudicati; ma ve ne sono altri che si vedono solo dopo.
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 Le buone opere d’alcuni altresì son manifeste; e quelle che sono altrimenti non possono essere occultate
