1 Timothy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 No reprendas a un anciano, sino exhórtalo como a un padre. Trata a los jóvenes como a hermanos,
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 a las ancianas como a madres, y a las jóvenes como a hermanas, con toda pureza.
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Honra y atiende a las viudas que realmente están necesitadas.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 Pero si alguna viuda tiene hijos o nietos, estos deben aprender primero a cumplir con sus deberes familiares y a ser agradecidos con sus padres, porque eso es lo que agrada a Dios.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 Hay viudas que lo son realmente, porque se han quedado solas y tienen puesta su confianza en Dios, consagrando sus días y sus noches a la súplica y a la oración.
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 Pero la que lleva una vida disipada, aunque viva, está muerta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 Incúlcales esto para que sean irreprochables:
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 el que no se ocupa de los suyos, sobre todo si conviven con él, ha renegado de su fe y es peor que un infiel.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 Para estar inscrita en el grupo de las viudas, una mujer debe tener por menos sesenta años y haberse casado una sola vez.
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 Que sus buenas obras den testimonio de ella; tiene que haber educado a sus hijos, ejercitado la hospitalidad, haber lavado los pies a los hermanos, socorrido a los necesitados y practicado el bien en todas sus formas.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 No inscribas, en cambio, a las viudas más jóvenes, porque cuando los deseos puramente humanos prevalecen sobre su entrega a Cristo, quieren casarse otra vez,
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 y se hacen culpables por faltar a su compromiso.
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 Además, si no tienen nada que hacer, acaban yendo de casa en casa y se dedican a charlar y a curiosear, ocupándose en lo que no les importa.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Por eso quiero que las viudas jóvenes se casen, que tengan hijos y atiendan a sus obligaciones domésticas, para no dar lugar a la maledicencia de los enemigos.
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 Algunas de ellas ya han abandonado el buen camino y siguen a Satanás.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Si una mujer creyente tiene viudas en la familia, que se ocupe de ellas. De esta manera, la Iglesia no las tendrá a su cargo y quedará libre para atender a las que están realmente necesitadas.
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 Los presbíteros que ejercen su cargo debidamente merecen un doble reconocimiento, sobre todo, los que dedican todo su esfuerzo a la predicación y a la enseñanza.
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 Porque dice la Escritura: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla, y también: El obrero tienen derecho a su salario.
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 No admitas acusaciones contra un presbítero, a menos que estén avaladas por dos o tres testigos.
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 A los que incurran en pecado, repréndelos públicamente, para que sirva de escarmiento a los demás.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Delante de Dios, de Jesucristo y de sus ángeles elegidos, te ordeno que observes estas indicaciones, sin prejuicios y procediendo con imparcialidad.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 No te apresures a imponer las manos a nadie, y no te hagas cómplice de pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 A causa de tus frecuentes malestares estomacales, no bebas agua sola: toma un poco de vino.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 Los pecados de algunas personas son notorios que no necesitan ser llevados a juicio; los de otras, en cambio, sólo se descubren después.
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 De la misma manera, las buenas obras están a la vista, y las que no lo son, ya se pondrán de manifiesto.
