1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 - Non muover rimproveri all'uomo d'età, ma rivolgigli la tua esortazione come a un padre, e i giovani trattali come fratelli,
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 le donne anziane come madri e le giovani come sorelle, con ogni castità.
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Onora le vedove che veramente son vedove.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 E se una vedova ha figliuoli o nipoti, questi imparino prima di tutto a usar pietà verso la propria casa, e a rendere il contraccambio ai genitori, poichè questo è accetto al cospetto di Dio.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 La vera vedova, rimasta sola, ha riposto le sue speranze in Dio e persevera nelle preghiere e nelle supplicazioni, di notte e di giorno;
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 ma quella che si dà alla lussuria, pur vivendo è morta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 Fa' loro queste esortazioni, perchè siano irreprensibili.
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Che se alcuno non pensa a' suoi, massime a quei di casa, costui ha rinnegato la fede ed è peggio d'un infedele.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 Una vedova non sia messa in nota se non abbia almeno sessant'anni di età, e sia stata moglie d'un solo marito,
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 e abbia attestazione di opere buone, se allevò figliuoli, se praticò l'ospitalità, se lavò i piedi dei santi, se aiutò gl'infelici, se ad ogni opera buona tenne dietro.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 Le vedove giovani trascurale, perchè quando son diventate tracotanti contro Cristo, vogliono rimaritarsi,
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 avendo la condanna di aver rotto la prima fede;
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 e insieme sfaccendate s'abituano ad andar in giro per le case; non solo sfaccendate, ma anche chiacchierone, pettegole, curiose, e cinguettano di quel che non devono.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Perciò voglio che le più giovani si sposino, facciano figli, governino la casa, in modo da non dar nessuna occasione all'avversario di maldicenza.
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 E già alcune si son sviate per andar dietro a Satana.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Se qualcuno tra i fedeli ha delle vedove, le soccorra e non ne sia aggravata la Chiesa, perchè questa possa bastare a quelle che veramente son vedove.
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 Gli anziani che si comportano bene nell'ufficio di capi, siano fatti degni di doppio onore, massime quei che s'affaticano nel parlare e nell'insegnare.
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 Dice la Scrittura: «A bue che trebbia non mettere la musoliera», e «degno è l'operaio della sua mercede».
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 Contro un anziano non ricevere accuse, salvo se sostenute da due o tre testimoni.
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 Quelli che sbagliano riprendili in faccia a tutti, perchè anche gli altri abbiano paura.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Ti scongiuro dinanzi a Dio e a Cristo Gesù e agli angeli eletti di osservar questi precetti, senza prevenzione, nulla facendo per spirito di parzialità.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 Non imporre le mani a nessuno con precipitazione, e non prender parte ai mancamenti altrui; conservati puro.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 Non bever più soltanto acqua, ma fa' uso di un po' di vino per via del tuo stomaco e delle tue frequenti indisposizioni.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 I peccati di certe persone sono manifesti, prevenendo il giudizio, mentre per altri si scopron dopo;
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 parimente le opere buone son manifeste, e quelle che non lo sono non possono rimaner nascoste.
