1 Timothy 1

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus ourhope,	1 Paolo, apostolo di Cristo Gesù per comando di Dio, nostro Salvatore e di Gesù Cristo, nostra speranza, a Timoteo, figliolo verace nella fede:
2 to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from ChristJesus our Lord.	2 grazia, misericordia e pace da parte di Dio Padre e di Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore.
3 When I was setting out for Macedonia I urged you to stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not tospread wrong teaching	3 Come ti raccomandai di rimanere in Efeso, alla mia partenza per la Macedonia, perché tu richiamassi alcuni dall'insegnare cose diverse
4 or to give attention to myths and unending genealogies; these things only foster doubts instead offurthering God's plan which is founded on faith.	4 e dall'attendere a favole e a genealogie interminabili, le quali servono piuttosto a far nascere discussioni che a favorire l'economia divina della salvezza basata sulla fede, (così te lo ripeto ora).
5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love, issuing from a pure heart, a clear conscience and asincere faith.	5 Lo scopo del richiamo però è la carità, la quale procede da un cuore puro, da una buona coscienza e da una fede senza simulazioni.
6 Some people have missed the way to these things and turned to empty speculation,	6 Proprio per aver deviato da queste cose, alcuni si sono perduti in fatue verbosità,
7 trying to be teachers of the Law; but they understand neither the words they use nor the matters aboutwhich they make such strong assertions.	7 volendo essere dottori della legge mentre non capiscono né quello che dicono né quello che portano a conferma (del loro insegnamento).
8 We are wel aware that the Law is good, but only provided it is used legitimately,	8 Certo, noi sappiamo che la legge è buona; a condizione però che se ne faccia un uso legittimo,
9 on the understanding that laws are not framed for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are forcriminals and the insubordinate, for the irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless; they arefor people who kil their fathers or mothers and for murderers,	9 ben sapendo che la legge non è istituita per chi è giusto, ma per gli iniqui e i ribelli, per gli empi e i peccatori, per i sacrileghi e i profanatori, per i parricidi e i matricidi, per gli omicidi,
10 for the promiscuous, homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and for perjurers -- and for everything else thatis contrary to the sound teaching	10 i fornicatori, gli omosessuali, i mercanti di uomini, i mentitori, gli spergiuri e qualsiasi altro vizio che si opponga alla sana dottrina,
11 that accords with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the gospel that was entrusted to me.	11 secondo il vangelo della gloria del beato Dio, che è stato a me affidato.
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By cal ing me into his service he has judgedme trustworthy,	12 Pertanto io rendo grazie a Cristo Gesù, Signore nostro, che mi ha fortificato, perché mi stimò degno di fiducia ponendomi nel ministero;
13 even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, wasshown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance;	13 proprio me che prima ero stato bestemmiatore, persecutore e violento. Però ottenni misericordia avendo fatto ciò nell'ignoranza, quando mi trovavo ancora nell'incredulità:
14 but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.	14 che anzi, la grazia del Signore nostro sovrabbondò con la fede e la carità che è in Cristo Gesù.
15 Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the worldto save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them;	15 E' questa infatti una parola degna di fede e di ogni accoglienza: Cristo Gesù è venuto nel mondo per salvare i peccatori, dei quali io sono il primo.
16 and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading exampleof his inexhaustible patience for al the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life.	16 Ma appunto per questo ho ottenuto misericordia: perché Gesù Cristo mostrasse in me, per primo, tutta la sua longanimità, ad esempio di quelli che avrebbero creduto in lui per la vita eterna.
17 To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.	17 Al Re dei secoli, l'incorruttibile, invisibile ed unico Dio, gloria ed onore per i secoli dei secoli! Amen.
18 Timothy, my son, these are the instructions that I am giving you, in accordance with the words oncespoken over you by the prophets, so that in their light you may fight like a good soldier	18 Questo incarico di richiamare io te lo affido, o Timoteo, figlio mio, in accordo alle profezie che già si sono manifestate riguardo a te, affinché da quelle sostenuto tu combatta la buona battaglia,
19 with faith and a good conscience for your weapons. Some people have put conscience aside andwrecked their faith in consequence.	19 conservando la fede e la buona coscienza, poiché per averla ripudiata, alcuni hanno fatto naufragio nella fede:
20 I mean men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may learnnot to be blasphemous.	20 fra questi sono Imeneo e Alessandro, che ho consegnato a Satana perché imparino a non bestemmiare.
