1 Timothy 1

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus ourhope,	1 Pablo, Apóstol de Jesucristo por mandato de Dios, nuestro Salvador, y de Cristo Jesús, nuestra esperanza,
2 to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from ChristJesus our Lord.	2 saluda a Timoteo, su verdadero hijo en la fe. Te deseo la gracia, la misericordia y la paz que proceden de Dios padre y de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.
3 When I was setting out for Macedonia I urged you to stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not tospread wrong teaching	3 Al partir para Macedonia, te pedí que permanecieras en Efeso, para impedir que cierta gente enseñara doctrinas extrañas
4 or to give attention to myths and unending genealogies; these things only foster doubts instead offurthering God's plan which is founded on faith.	4 y prestara atención a mitos y genealogías interminables. Estas cosas no hacen más que provocar discusiones inútiles, en lugar de servir al designio de Dios fundado sobre la fe.
5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love, issuing from a pure heart, a clear conscience and asincere faith.	5 Te hice este pedido con el fin de suscitar el amor que brota de un corazón puro, de una buena conciencia y de una fe sincera.
6 Some people have missed the way to these things and turned to empty speculation,	6 Por haberse apartado de esto, algunos terminaron en pura palabrería
7 trying to be teachers of the Law; but they understand neither the words they use nor the matters aboutwhich they make such strong assertions.	7 y, pretendiendo ser maestros de la Ley, en realidad no saben lo que dicen ni lo que afirman con tanta seguridad.
8 We are wel aware that the Law is good, but only provided it is used legitimately,	8 Ya sabemos que la Ley es buena, si se la usa debidamente,
9 on the understanding that laws are not framed for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are forcriminals and the insubordinate, for the irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless; they arefor people who kil their fathers or mothers and for murderers,	9 es decir, si se tiene en cuenta que no fue establecida para los justos, sino para los malvados y los rebeldes, para los impíos y pecadores, los sacrílegos y profanadores, los parricidas y matricidas, los asesinos,
10 for the promiscuous, homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and for perjurers -- and for everything else thatis contrary to the sound teaching	10 los impúdicos y pervertidos, los traficantes de seres humanos, los tramposos y los perjuros. 11 that accords with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the gospel that was entrusted to me.	11 del Evangelio que me ha sido confiado, y que nos revela la gloria del bienaventurado Dios.
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By cal ing me into his service he has judgedme trustworthy,	12 Doy gracias a nuestro Señor Jesucristo, porque me ha fortalecido y me ha considerado digno de confianza, llamándome a su servicio
13 even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, wasshown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance;	13 a pesar de mis blasfemias, persecuciones e insolencias anteriores. Pero fui tratado con misericordia, porque cuando no tenía fe, actuaba así por ignorancia.
14 but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.	14 Y sobreabundó a mí la gracia de nuestro Señor, junto con la fe y el amor de Cristo Jesús.
15 Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the worldto save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them;	15 Es doctrina cierta y digna de fe que Jesucristo vino al mundo para salvar a los pecadores, y yo soy el peor de ellos.
16 and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading exampleof his inexhaustible patience for al the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life.	16 Si encontré misericordia, fue para que Jesucristo demostrara en mí toda su paciencia, poniéndome como ejemplo de los que van a creer en él para alcanzar la Vida eterna.
17 To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.	17 ¡Al Rey eterno y universal, al Dios incorruptible, invisible y único, honor y gloria por los siglos de los siglos! Amén.
18 Timothy, my son, these are the instructions that I am giving you, in accordance with the words oncespoken over you by the prophets, so that in their light you may fight like a good soldier	18 Hijo mío, te hago esta recomendación, conforme a lo que se dijo de ti por inspiración de Dios, a fin de que luches valientemente,
19 with faith and a good conscience for your weapons. Some people have put conscience aside andwrecked their faith in consequence.	19 conservando la fe y la buena conciencia. Por no haber tenido una buena conciencia algunos fracasaron en la fe,
20 I mean men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may learnnot to be blasphemous.	20 entre otros, Himeneo y Alejandro, a quienes entregué a Satanás para que aprendieran a no blasfemar.
