1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus ourhope,	1 Paolo Apostolo di Gesù Cristo secondo l'ordinazione di Dio Salvatore nostro, e di Gesù Cristo nostra speranza:
2 to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from ChristJesus our Lord.	2 A Timoteo per la fede figliuolo diletto: grazia, misericordia, e pace da Dio Padre, e da Gesù Cristo Signor nostro.
3 When I was setting out for Macedonia I urged you to stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not tospread wrong teaching	3 Siccome ti pregai, che rimanessi in Efeso, mentr' io andava nella Macedonia, perché facessi intendere a certuni, che non tenessero diversa dottrina,
4 or to give attention to myths and unending genealogies; these things only foster doubts instead offurthering God's plan which is founded on faith.	4 Né andasser dietro alle favole, e alle genealogie, che non hanno fine: le quali partoriscon piuttosto delle dispute, che quell'edificazione di Dio, che si ha per la fede.
5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love, issuing from a pure heart, a clear conscience and asincere faith.	5 Or il fine del precetto è la carità di puro cuore, e di buona coscienza, e di fede non simulata.
6 Some people have missed the way to these things and turned to empty speculation,	6 Dalle quali cose alcuni avendo deviato, hanno dato nei vani cicalecci,
7 trying to be teachers of the Law; but they understand neither the words they use nor the matters aboutwhich they make such strong assertions.	7 Volendo farla da dottori della legge, senza intendere né le cose, che dicono, né quelle, che danno per certe.
8 We are wel aware that the Law is good, but only provided it is used legitimately,	8 Or sappiamo, che buona è la legge, se uno se ne serve legittimamente:
9 on the understanding that laws are not framed for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are forcriminals and the insubordinate, for the irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless; they arefor people who kil their fathers or mothers and for murderers,	9 Non ignorando, come la legge non è fatta pel giusto, ma per gli ingiusti, e disubbidienti, per gli empi, e peccatori, per gli scellerati, e profani, pei parricidi, e matricidi, e omicidi,
10 for the promiscuous, homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and for perjurers -- and for everything else thatis contrary to the sound teaching	10 Pei fornicatori, pei rei di delitto infame, per coloro, che ruban gli schiavi, pe' bugiardi, e spergiuri, e s'altro v' ha, che alla sana dottrina s' opponga,
11 that accords with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the gospel that was entrusted to me.	11 La quale è secondo il glorioso vangelo del beato Iddio, il quale è stato a me affidato.
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By cal ing me into his service he has judgedme trustworthy,	12 Rendo grazie a colui, che mi ha fatto forte, a Gesù Cristo Signor nostro, perché mi ha giudicato fedele, ponendomi nel ministero:
13 even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, wasshown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance;	13 Me, cha prima fui bestemmiatore e persecutore, e oppressore, ma conseguii misericordia da Dio, perché per ignoranza lo feci, essendo incredulo.
14 but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.	14 Ma soprabbondò la grazia del Signor nostro colla fede, e colla carità, ch' è in Cristo Gesù.
15 Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the worldto save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them;	15 Parola fedele, e degna di ogni accettazione, che Gesù Cristo venne in questo mondo a salvare i peccatori, de' quali il primo son io.
16 and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading exampleof his inexhaustible patience for al the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life.	16 Ma per questo trovai misericordia affinchè in me prima io facesse vedere Cristo Gesù tutta la pazienza per modello a coloro, i quali sono per credere a lui, per la vita eterna.
17 To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.	17 Al Re de' secoli immortale, invisibile, al solo Dio, onore, e gloria pe' secoli de' secoli. Cosi sia.
18 Timothy, my son, these are the instructions that I am giving you, in accordance with the words oncespoken over you by the prophets, so that in their light you may fight like a good soldier	18 Questo avvertimento ti raccomando, o figliuolo Timoteo, che seconda le profezie, che di te precedettero, secondo queste militi nella buona milizia,
19 with faith and a good conscience for your weapons. Some people have put conscience aside andwrecked their faith in consequence.	19 Tenendo la fede, e la buona coscienza, rigettata la quale taluni han fatto naufragio intorno alla fede:
20 I mean men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may learnnot to be blasphemous.	20 Del numero de' quali è Hymeneo, e Alessandro: i quali io ho consegnati a Satana, perché imparino a non bestemmiare.
