1 Timothy 1

NEW JERUSALEM	GREEK BIBLE
1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus ourhope,	1 Παυλος, αποστολος Ιησου Χριστου, κατ' επιταγην Θεου του Σωτηρος ημων και Κυριου Ιησου Χριστου της ελπιδος ημων,
2 to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from ChristJesus our Lord.	2 προς Τιμοθεον, το γνησιον τεκνον εις την πιστιν? ειη χαρις, ελεος, ειρηνη απο Θεου Πατρος ημων και Χριστου Ιησου του Κυριου ημων.
3 When I was setting out for Macedonia I urged you to stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not tospread wrong teaching	3 Καθως σε παρεκαλεσα απερχομενος εις Μακεδονιαν, να προσμεινης εν Εφεσω, δια να παραγγειλης εις τινας να μη ετεροδιδασκαλωσι
4 or to give attention to myths and unending genealogies; these things only foster doubts instead offurthering God's plan which is founded on faith.	4 μηδε να προσεχωσιν εις μυθους και γενεαλογιας απεραντους, αιτινες προξενουσι φιλονεικιας μαλλον παρα την εις την πιστιν οικοδομην του Θεου, ουτω πραττε?
5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love, issuing from a pure heart, a clear conscience and asincere faith.	5 το δε τελος της παραγγελιας ειναι αγαπη εκ καθαρας καρδιας και συνειδησεως αγαθης και πιστεως ανυποκριτου,
6 Some people have missed the way to these things and turned to empty speculation,	6 απο των οποιων αποπλανηθεντες τινες εξετραπησαν εις ματαιολογιαν.
7 trying to be teachers of the Law; but they understand neither the words they use nor the matters aboutwhich they make such strong assertions.	7 Θελοντες να ηναι νομοδιδασκαλοι, ενω δεν νοουσιν ουτε οσα λεγουσιν ουτε περι τινων διισχυριζονται.
8 We are wel aware that the Law is good, but only provided it is used legitimately,	8 Εξευρομεν δε οτι ο νομος ειναι καλος, εαν τις μεταχειριζηται αυτον νομιμως,
9 on the understanding that laws are not framed for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are forcriminals and the insubordinate, for the irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless; they arefor people who kil their fathers or mothers and for murderers,	9 γνωριζων τουτο, οτι ο νομος δεν ετεθη δια τον δικαιον, αλλα δια τους ανομους και ανυποτακτους, τους ασεβεις και αμαρτωλους, τους ανοσιους και βεβηλους, τους πατροκτονους και μητροκτονους, τους ανδροφονους,
10 for the promiscuous, homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and for perjurers -- and for everything else thatis contrary to the sound teaching	10 πορνους, αρσενοκοιτας, ανδραποδιστας, ψευστας, επιορκους, και ει τι αλλο αντιβαινει εις την υγιαινουσαν διδασκαλιαν,
11 that accords with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the gospel that was entrusted to me.	11 κατα το ευαγγελιον της δοξης του μακαριου Θεου, το οποιον εγω ενεπιστευθην.
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By cal ing me into his service he has judgedme trustworthy,	12 Και ευχαριστω τον ενδυναμωσαντα με Ιησουν Χριστον τον Κυριον ημων, οτι ενεκρινε πιστον και εταξεν εις την διακονιαν εμε,
13 even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, wasshown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance;	13 τον προτερον οντα βλασφημον και διωκτην και υβριστην? ηλεηθην ομως, διοτι αγνοων επραξα εν απιστια,
14 but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.	14 αλλ' υπερεπερισσευσεν η χαρις του Κυριου ημων μετα πιστεως και αγαπης της εν Χριστω Ιησου.
15 Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the worldto save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them;	15 Πιστος ο λογος και πασης αποδοχης αξιος, οτι ο Ιησους Χριστος ηλθεν εις τον κοσμον δια να σωση τους αμαρτωλους, των οποιων πρωτος ειμαι εγω?
16 and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading exampleof his inexhaustible patience for al the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life.	16 αλλα δια τουτο ηλεηθην, δια να δειξη ο Ιησους Χριστος εις εμε πρωτον την πασαν μακροθυμιαν, εις παραδειγμα των μελλοντων να πιστευωσιν εις αυτον εις ζωην αιωνιον.
17 To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.	17 εις δε τον βασιλεα των αιωνων, τον αφθαρτον, τον αορατον, τον μονον σοφον Θεον, ειη τιμη και δοξα εις τους αιωνας των αιωνων? αμην.
18 Timothy, my son, these are the instructions that I am giving you, in accordance with the words oncespoken over you by the prophets, so that in their light you may fight like a good soldier	18 Ταυτην την παραγγελιαν παραδιδω εις σε, τεκνον Τιμοθεε, κατα τας προγενομενας προφητειας περι σου, να στρατευης κατ' αυτας την καλην στρατειαν,
19 with faith and a good conscience for your weapons. Some people have put conscience aside andwrecked their faith in consequence.	19 εχων πιστιν και αγαθην συνειδησιν, την οποιαν τινες αποβαλοντες εναυαγησαν εις την πιστιν?
20 I mean men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may learnnot to be blasphemous.	20 εκ των οποιων ειναι ο Υμεναιος και Αλεξανδρος, τους οποιους παρεδωκα εις τον Σαταναν, δια να μαθωσι να μη βλασφημωσι.
