Joshua 10

NEW JERUSALEM	SMITH VAN DYKE
1 Now, it happened that Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem, learned that Joshua had conquered Ai and putthe town under the curse of destruction, treating Ai and its king as he had already treated Jericho and its king;and also that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living with them.	1 فلما سمع ادوني صادق ملك اورشليم ان يشوع قد اخذ عاي وحرّمها كما فعل باريحا وملكها فعل بعاي وملكها وان سكان جبعون قد صالحوا اسرائيل وكانوا في وسطهم
2 There was consternation at this, since Gibeon was as important a town as any of the royal townsthemselves (it was larger than Ai), while al its citizens were fighting men.	2 خاف جدا لان جبعون مدينة عظيمة كاحدى المدن الملكية وهي اعظم من عاي وكل رجالها جبابرة.
3 Consequently, Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king ofJarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon,	3 فارسل ادوني صادق ملك اورشليم الى هوهام ملك حبرون وفرآم ملك يرموت ويافيع ملك لخيش ودبير ملك عجلون يقول
4 'Join me up here and help me to conquer Gibeon, since it has made peace with Joshua and theIsraelites.'	4 اصعدوا اليّ واعينوني فنضرب جبعون لانها صالحت يشوع وبني اسرائيل.
5 The five Amorite kings joined forces and went up there, that is, the king of Jerusalem, the king ofHebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon, they and al their armies; laying siege toGibeon, they attacked it.	5 فاجتمع ملوك الاموريين الخمسة ملك اورشليم وملك حبرون وملك يرموت وملك لخيش وملك عجلون وصعدوا هم وكل جيوشهم ونزلوا على جبعون وحاربوها.
6 The men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal, 'Do not desert your servants; come uphere quickly to save us and help us, since al the Amorite kings living in the highlands have al ied themselvesagainst us.'	6 فارسل اهل جبعون الى يشوع الى المحلّة في الجلجال يقولون لا ترخ يديك عن عبيدك. اصعد الينا عاجلا وخلصنا واعنّا لانه قد اجتمع علينا جميع ملوك الاموريين الساكنين في الجبل.
7 Joshua came up from Gilgal, he, al the fighting men and all the bravest of his army.	7 فصعد يشوع من الجلجال هو وجميع رجال الحرب معه وكل جبابرة البأس
8 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of these people; I have put them at your mercy; not one ofthem wil put up any resistance.'	8 فقال الرب ليشوع لا تخفهم لاني بيدك قد اسلمتهم. لا يقف رجل منهم بوجهك.
9 Having marched from Gilgal throughout the night, Joshua caught them unawares.	9 فأتى اليهم يشوع بغتة. صعد الليل كله من الجلجال.
10 Yahweh threw them into disorder at the sight of Israel, defeating them completely at Gibeon;furthermore, he pursued them by way of the Descent of Beth-Horon and harassed them as far as Azekah (andas far as Makkedah).	10 فازعجهم الرب امام اسرائيل وضربهم ضربة عظيمة في جبعون وطردهم في طريق عقبة بيت حورون وضربهم الى عزيقة والى مقيدة.
11 And as they fled from Israel down the Descent of Beth-Horon, Yahweh hurled huge hailstones fromheaven on them all the way to Azekah, and they died. More of them died under the hailstones than under theswords of the Israelites.	11 وبينما هم هاربون من امام اسرائيل وهم في منحدر بيت حورون رماهم الرب بحجارة عظيمة من السماء الى عزيقة فماتوا. والذين ماتوا بحجارة البرد هم اكثر من الذين قتلهم بنو اسرائيل بالسيف
12 Joshua then spoke to Yahweh, the day Yahweh delivered the Amorites to the Israelites. In thepresence of Israel, Joshua said: Sun, stand stil over Gibeon, and, moon, you too, over the Vale of Aijalon!	12 حينئذ كلم يشوع الرب يوم اسلم الرب الاموريين امام بني اسرائيل وقال امام عيون اسرائيل يا شمس دومي على جبعون ويا قمر على وادي ايلون.
13 And the sun stood stil , and the moon halted, until the people had taken vengeance on their enemies.Is this not written in the Book of the Just? The sun stood still in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting foralmost a whole day.	13 فدامت الشمس ووقف القمر حتى انتقم الشعب من اعدائه. أليس هذا مكتوبا في سفر ياشر. فوقفت الشمس في كبد السماء ولم تعجل للغروب نحو يوم كامل.
14 There was never a day like that before or since, when Yahweh obeyed the voice of a man -- forYahweh was fighting for Israel.	14 ولم يكن مثل ذلك اليوم قبله ولا بعده سمع فيه الرب صوت انسان. لان الرب حارب عن اسرائيل
15 Joshua, and al Israel with him, then went back to the camp at Gilgal.	15 ثم رجع يشوع وجميع اسرائيل معه الى المحلّة في الجلجال.
16 As regards the five kings, these had fled and hidden in the cave of Makkedah,	16 فهرب اولئك الخمسة الملوك واختبأوا في مغارة في مقيدة.
17 and news of this was brought to Joshua. 'The five kings have been found hiding in the cave atMakkedah.'	17 فأخبر يشوع وقيل له قد وجد الملوك الخمسة مختبئين في مغارة في مقيدة.
18 Joshua said, 'Rol great stones over the mouth of the cave and post men there to keep guard.	18 فقال يشوع دحرجوا حجارة عظيمة على فم المغارة واقيموا عليها رجالا لاجل حفظهم.
19 You yourselves, do not stay there doing nothing; pursue the enemy, cut off their line of retreat and donot let them enter their towns, for Yahweh your God has put them at your mercy.'	19 واما انتم فلا تقفوا بل اسعوا وراء اعدائكم واضربوا مؤخرهم. لا تدعوهم يدخلون مدنهم لان الرب الهكم قد اسلمهم بيدكم.
20 When Joshua and the Israelites had finished inflicting a very great defeat on them, to the point ofdestroying them, those who had escaped alive took refuge in their fortresses.	20 ولما انتهى يشوع وبنو اسرائيل من ضربهم ضربة عظيمة جدا حتى فنوا والشرد الذين شردوا منهم دخلوا المدن المحصّنة
21 The people came back to Joshua's camp at Makkedah; they were all safe and sound, and no onedared to attempt anything against the Israelites.	21 رجع جميع الشعب الى المحلّة الى يشوع في مقيدة بسلام. لم يسن احد لسانه على بني اسرائيل.
22 Joshua then said, 'Clear the mouth of the cave and bring the five kings out to me.'	22 فقال يشوع افتحوا فم المغارة واخرجوا اليّ هؤلاء الخمسة الملوك من المغارة.
23 They did so, and brought the five kings out of the cave to take them to him: the king of Jerusalem, theking of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon.	23 ففعلوا كذلك واخرجوا اليه اولئك الملوك الخمسة من المغارة ملك اورشليم وملك حبرون وملك يرموت وملك لخيش وملك عجلون.
24 When these kings had been brought out, Joshua assembled al the men of Israel and said to thechiefs of the warriors who had fought with him, 'Come forward and put your feet on the necks of these kings!'They came forward and put their feet on their necks.	24 وكان لما اخرجوا اولئك الملوك الى يشوع ان يشوع دعا كل رجال اسرائيل وقال لقواد رجال الحرب الذين ساروا معه تقدموا وضعوا ارجلكم على اعناق هؤلاء الملوك. فتقدموا ووضعوا ارجلهم على اعناقهم.
25 'Be fearless and undaunted,' Joshua went on, 'be strong and stand firm, for this is how Yahweh wildeal with al the enemies you fight.'	25 فقال لهم يشوع لا تخافوا ولا ترتعبوا. تشددوا وتشجعوا. لانه هكذا يفعل الرب بجميع اعدائكم الذين تحاربونهم.
26 With this, Joshua struck and killed them and had them hanged on five trees; they hung there tillevening.	26 وضربهم يشوع بعد ذلك وقتلهم وعلقهم على خمس خشب وبقوا معلقين على الخشب حتى المساء.
27 At the hour of sunset, on Joshua's orders, they were taken down from the trees and thrown into thecave where they had been hiding. Great stones were laid over the mouth of the cave, and these are stil there tothis very day.	27 وكان عند غروب الشمس ان يشوع امر فانزلوهم عن الخشب وطرحوهم في المغارة التي اختبأوا فيها ووضعوا حجارة كبيرة على فم المغارة حتى الى هذا اليوم عينه
28 The same day Joshua captured Makkedah, putting it and its king to the sword; he delivered themover to the curse of destruction, with every living creature there, and let no one escape, and he treated the kingof Makkedah as he had treated the king of Jericho.	28 واخذ يشوع مقيدة في ذلك اليوم وضربها بحد السيف وحرّم ملكها هو وكل نفس بها. لم يبق شاردا. وفعل بملك مقيدة كما فعل بملك اريحا.
29 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Makkedah to Libnah and attacked it	29 ثم اجتاز يشوع من مقيدة وكل اسرائيل معه الى لبنة وحارب لبنة.
30 and Yahweh put this, too, and its king at Israel's mercy; and Israel put every living creature there tothe sword, and left none alive, and treated its king like the king of Jericho.	30 فدفعها الرب هي ايضا بيد اسرائيل مع ملكها فضربها بحد السيف وكل نفس بها. لم يبق بها شاردا وفعل بملكها كما فعل بملك اريحا.
31 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Libnah to Lachish and besieged it and attacked it.	31 ثم اجتاز يشوع وكل اسرائيل معه من لبنة الى لخيش ونزل عليها وحاربها.
32 Yahweh put Lachish at Israel's mercy, and Israel took it on the second day and put it and every livingcreature in it to the sword, as they had treated Libnah.	32 فدفع الرب لخيش بيد اسرائيل فاخذها في اليوم الثاني وضربها بحد السيف وكل نفس بها حسب كل ما فعل بلبنة.
33 Horam king of Gezer then marched up to help Lachish, but Joshua beat him and his people until notone was left alive.	33 حينئذ صعد هورام ملك جازر لاعانة لخيش وضربه يشوع مع شعبه حتى لم يبق له شاردا
34 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Lachish to Eglon. They besieged it and attacked it.	34 ثم اجتاز يشوع وكل اسرائيل معه من لخيش الى عجلون فنزلوا عليها وحاربوها
35 The same day they took it and put it to the sword. That day he delivered over to the curse ofdestruction every living creature there, treating it as he had treated Lachish.	35 وأخذوها في ذلك اليوم وضربوها بحد السيف وحرّم كل نفس بها في ذلك اليوم حسب كل ما فعل بلخيش.
36 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on up from Eglon to Hebron. They attacked it,	36 ثم صعد يشوع وجميع اسرائيل معه من عجلون الى حبرون وحاربوها
37 took it and put it to the sword, with its king, its dependencies and every living creature in it. As he hadtreated Eglon, so here, he left no one alive. He delivered it over to the curse of destruction, with every livingcreature in it.	37 وأخذوها وضربوها بحد السيف مع ملكها وكل مدنها وكل نفس بها. لم يبق شاردا حسب كل ما فعل بعجلون فحرّمها وكل نفس بها
38 Joshua, and al Israel with him, then turned back on Debir and attacked it.	38 ثم رجع يشوع وكل اسرائيل معه الى دبير وحاربها.
39 He took it and its king and al the places belonging to it; they put them to the sword, and every livingcreature there they delivered over to the curse of destruction. He left no one alive. As he had treated Hebron, ashe had treated Libnah and its king, so he treated Debir and its king.	39 وأخذها مع ملكها وكل مدنها وضربوها بحد السيف وحرّموا كل نفس بها. لم يبق شاردا. كما فعل بحبرون كذلك فعل بدبير وملكها وكما فعل بلبنة وملكها
40 Thus Joshua subjugated the whole country: the highlands, the Negeb, the lowlands and wateredfoothil s, and al their kings. He left not one survivor and put every living thing under the curse of destruction, asYahweh, God of Israel, had commanded.	40 فضرب يشوع كل ارض الجبل والجنوب والسهل والسفوح وكل ملوكها. لم يبق شاردا بل حرّم كل نسمة كما امر الرب اله اسرائيل.
41 Joshua conquered them from Kadesh-Barnea to Gaza, and the whole region of Goshen as far asGibeon.	41 فضربهم يشوع من قادش برنيع الى غزة وجميع ارض جوشن الى جبعون.
42 Al these kings and their territory Joshua captured in a single campaign, because Yahweh, God ofIsrael, fought for Israel.	42 واخذ يشوع جميع اولئك الملوك وارضهم دفعة واحدة لان الرب اله اسرائيل حارب عن اسرائيل
43 And then Joshua, and al Israel with him, went back to the camp at Gilgal.	43 ثم رجع يشوع وجميع اسرائيل معه الى المحلّة الى الجلجال
