Joshua 10

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Now, it happened that Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem, learned that Joshua had conquered Ai and putthe town under the curse of destruction, treating Ai and its king as he had already treated Jericho and its king;and also that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living with them.	1 Amikor ezt Adonicedek, Jeruzsálem királya meghallotta, azt tudniillik, hogy Józsue Áit bevette és feldúlta (ahogy ugyanis Jerikóval s királyával cselekedett, úgy cselekedett Ái-jal és királyával is), s hogy a gibeaiak átszöktek Izraelhez és szövetségesei lettek,
2 There was consternation at this, since Gibeon was as important a town as any of the royal townsthemselves (it was larger than Ai), while al its citizens were fighting men.	2 igen megijedt. 5 The five Amorite kings joined forces and went up there, that is, the king of Jerusalem, the king ofHebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon, they and al their armies; laying siege toGibeon, they attacked it.	5 Összegyűlt és felvonult tehát az amoriták öt királya: Jeruzsálem királya, Hebron királya, Jerimót királya, Lákis királya, Eglon királya seregükkel együtt, s tábort ütöttek Gibeon körül, s ostrom alá vették.
6 The men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal, 'Do not desert your servants; come uphere quickly to save us and help us, since al the Amorite kings living in the highlands have al ied themselvesagainst us.'	6 Erre Gibeonnak, az ostromlott városnak lakói elküldtek Józsuéhoz, aki akkor Gilgálban táborozott és azt üzenték neki: »Ne vond meg segítő kezedet szolgáidtól: jöjj gyorsan fel és szabadíts meg minket, s hozz segítséget, mert összegyűlt ellenünk a Hegyvidéken lakó amoriták valamennyi királya.«
7 Joshua came up from Gilgal, he, al the fighting men and all the bravest of his army.	7 Felvonult tehát Józsue Gilgálból, s vele a harcosok egész serege, a legvitézebb férfiak.
8 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of these people; I have put them at your mercy; not one ofthem wil put up any resistance.'	8 Azt mondta ekkor az Úr Józsuénak: »Ne félj tőlük, mert a kezedbe adtam őket: senki sem tud majd közülük ellenállni neked.«
9 Having marched from Gilgal throughout the night, Joshua caught them unawares.	9 Józsue váratlanul rájuk is rontott, miután egész éjszaka menetelt Gilgálból.
10 Yahweh threw them into disorder at the sight of Israel, defeating them completely at Gibeon;furthermore, he pursued them by way of the Descent of Beth-Horon and harassed them as far as Azekah (andas far as Makkedah).	10 Az Úr megzavarta őket Izrael színe előtt, és Izrael súlyos vereséget mért rájuk Gibeonnál, majd tovább űzte őket a Béthoronba vezető hegyi úton, és verte őket Azekáig és Makkedáig.
11 And as they fled from Israel down the Descent of Beth-Horon, Yahweh hurled huge hailstones fromheaven on them all the way to Azekah, and they died. 12 Joshua then spoke to Yahweh, the day Yahweh delivered the Amorites to the Israelites. In thepresence of Israel, Joshua said: Sun, stand stil over Gibeon, and, moon, you too, over the Vale of Aijalon!	12 Akkor így szólt Józsue az Úrhoz, azon a napon, amelyen odaadta az amoritákat Izrael fiainak színe elé, és azt mondta előttük: »Nap, ne mozdulj Gibeon felé, és hold Ajjalon völgye felé!«
13 And the sun stood stil , and the moon halted, until the people had taken vengeance on their enemies.Is this not written in the Book of the Just? The sun stood still in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting foralmost a whole day.	13 Erre megállt a nap és hold, amíg a nemzet bosszút nem állt ellenségein. Vajon nincs ez megírva az Igazak könyvében? Megállt tehát a Nap az ég közepén, s nem sietett lenyugodni egy teljes napig.
14 There was never a day like that before or since, when Yahweh obeyed the voice of a man -- forYahweh was fighting for Israel.	14 Nem volt olyan hosszú nap sem azelőtt, sem azután, mint amikor az Úr engedett az ember szavának és harcolt Izraelért. –
15 Joshua, and al Israel with him, then went back to the camp at Gilgal.	15 Józsue aztán egész Izraellel együtt visszatért a táborba, Gilgálba.
16 As regards the five kings, these had fled and hidden in the cave of Makkedah,	16 Maga az öt király azonban elfutott és elrejtőzött Makkeda városának barlangjában.
17 and news of this was brought to Joshua. 'The five kings have been found hiding in the cave atMakkedah.'	17 Amikor aztán jelentették Józsuénak, hogy megtalálták az öt királyt, elrejtőzve Makkeda városának barlangjában,
18 Joshua said, 'Rol great stones over the mouth of the cave and post men there to keep guard.	18 ő megparancsolta társainak: »Hengerítsetek nagy köveket a barlang szájához, s rendeljetek melléje ügyes férfiakat, hogy őrizzék a bezártakat.
19 You yourselves, do not stay there doing nothing; pursue the enemy, cut off their line of retreat and donot let them enter their towns, for Yahweh your God has put them at your mercy.'	19 Ti azonban ne álljatok meg, hanem űzzétek az ellenséget, s vágjátok a menekülő utócsapatokat, s ne engedjétek, hogy városaik oltalmába jussanak, mert az Úr, a ti Istenetek a kezetekbe adta őket.«
20 When Joshua and the Israelites had finished inflicting a very great defeat on them, to the point ofdestroying them, those who had escaped alive took refuge in their fortresses.	20 Amikor aztán megverték az ellenséget, s nagy vereséget okoztak neki és csaknem egy szálig megsemmisítették, s akik el tudtak menekülni Izrael elől, bevonultak a megerősített városokba:
21 The people came back to Joshua's camp at Makkedah; they were all safe and sound, and no onedared to attempt anything against the Israelites.	21 visszatért az egész sereg Józsuéhoz Makkedába, ahol akkor a tábor állt, épen és teljes számban és senki sem mert Izrael fiai ellen támadni.
22 Joshua then said, 'Clear the mouth of the cave and bring the five kings out to me.'	22 Ekkor Józsue megparancsolta: »Nyissátok ki a barlang száját, s hozzátok ki hozzám azt az öt királyt, aki benne rejtőzik.«
23 They did so, and brought the five kings out of the cave to take them to him: the king of Jerusalem, theking of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon.	23 Szolgái úgy is tettek, ahogy parancsolta nekik, s kivitték hozzá a barlangból az öt királyt: Jeruzsálem királyát, Hebron királyát, Jerimót királyát, Lákis királyát, Eglon királyát.
24 When these kings had been brought out, Joshua assembled al the men of Israel and said to thechiefs of the warriors who had fought with him, 'Come forward and put your feet on the necks of these kings!'They came forward and put their feet on their necks.	24 Amikor aztán kivezették őket hozzá, előhívta Izrael minden férfiát, s azt mondta a sereg vezéreinek, akik vele voltak: »Menjetek, s tegyétek rá lábatokat ezeknek a királyoknak a nyakára.« Azok odamentek, legyűrték őket és lábukkal taposták nyakukat.
25 'Be fearless and undaunted,' Joshua went on, 'be strong and stand firm, for this is how Yahweh wildeal with al the enemies you fight.'	25 Azt mondta ekkor nekik: »Ne féljetek, ne rettegjetek, legyetek erősek és bátrak, mert így tesz majd az Úr minden ellenségetekkel, akik ellen hadakoztok.«
26 With this, Joshua struck and killed them and had them hanged on five trees; they hung there tillevening.	26 Aztán Józsue leüttette és megölette őket, majd felakasztotta őket öt fára, s ott voltak felakasztva estig.
27 At the hour of sunset, on Joshua's orders, they were taken down from the trees and thrown into thecave where they had been hiding. Great stones were laid over the mouth of the cave, and these are stil there tothis very day.	27 Amikor aztán a nap leszállóban volt, megparancsolta társainak, hogy vegyék le őket a bitókról. Azok levették, s bedobták őket abba a barlangba, amelyben elrejtőztek, s hatalmas köveket helyeztek a szájához, amelyek megvannak mindmáig.
28 The same day Joshua captured Makkedah, putting it and its king to the sword; he delivered themover to the curse of destruction, with every living creature there, and let no one escape, and he treated the kingof Makkedah as he had treated the king of Jericho.	28 Ugyanazon a napon Józsue Makkedát is bevette és kardélre hányta, és megölte királyát és minden lakosát: a legkisebbet sem hagyta ott életben, aztán úgy tett Makkeda királyával, amint Jerikó királyával tett.
29 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Makkedah to Libnah and attacked it	29 Makkedából aztán átment egész Izraellel együtt Libnába és hadakozott ellene,
30 and Yahweh put this, too, and its king at Israel's mercy; and Israel put every living creature there tothe sword, and left none alive, and treated its king like the king of Jericho.	30 s azt az Úr Izrael kezébe adta királyával együtt, s kardélre hányták a várost s minden lakóját és senkit sem hagytak ott életben. Aztán úgy tettek Libna királyával, amint Jerikó királyával cselekedtek.
31 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Libnah to Lachish and besieged it and attacked it.	31 Libnából egész Izraellel együtt átment Lákisba és felállította körülötte seregét és ostrom alá vette.
32 Yahweh put Lachish at Israel's mercy, and Israel took it on the second day and put it and every livingcreature in it to the sword, as they had treated Libnah.	32 Az Úr Izraelnek kezébe is adta Lákist. Az másnap elfoglalta, kardélre hányt és felkoncolt minden élőt, amely benne volt, úgy, ahogy Libnával tett.
33 Horam king of Gezer then marched up to help Lachish, but Joshua beat him and his people until notone was left alive.	33 Ekkor feljött Hórám, Gézer királya, hogy segítséget nyújtson Lákisnak, de Józsue megverte őt egész népével együtt, mind egy szálig.

35 The same day they took it and put it to the sword. That day he delivered over to the curse ofdestruction every living creature there, treating it as he had treated Lachish.	35 és még aznap bevette. Kardélre hányt minden élőt, amely benne volt, egészen úgy, ahogy Lákissal tett.
36 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on up from Eglon to Hebron. They attacked it,	36 Eglonból aztán felment egész Izraellel együtt Hebronba, és hadakozott ellene.
37 took it and put it to the sword, with its king, its dependencies and every living creature in it. As he hadtreated Eglon, so here, he left no one alive. He delivered it over to the curse of destruction, with every livingcreature in it.	37 Bevette azt, és kardélre hányta királyával és vidékének minden városával együtt, felkoncolt minden élőt, amely ott tartózkodott. Nem hagyott ott senkit sem életben. Ahogy Eglonnal cselekedett, úgy tett Hebronnal is: mindazt, amit benne talált, elpusztította karddal.
38 Joshua, and al Israel with him, then turned back on Debir and attacked it.	38 Innen Debir felé fordult,
39 He took it and its king and al the places belonging to it; they put them to the sword, and every livingcreature there they delivered over to the curse of destruction. He left no one alive. As he had treated Hebron, ashe had treated Libnah and its king, so he treated Debir and its king.	39 bevette azt, és feldúlta. A királyát és a körülötte levő összes várost kardélre hányta, nem hagyott benne senkit sem életben. Amint Hebronnal, Libnával és azok királyával tett, úgy cselekedett Debirrel és királyával is.
40 Thus Joshua subjugated the whole country: the highlands, the Negeb, the lowlands and wateredfoothil s, and al their kings. He left not one survivor and put every living thing under the curse of destruction, asYahweh, God of Israel, had commanded.	40 Így verte meg Józsue az egész földet: a Hegyvidéket, a Délvidéket, az Alföldet, a Lejtőket királyukkal együtt; nem hagyott rajta senkit sem életben, hanem mindenkit megölt, aki lélegzett, amint az Úr, Izrael Istene megparancsolta neki,
41 Joshua conquered them from Kadesh-Barnea to Gaza, and the whole region of Goshen as far asGibeon.	41 Kádes-Barneától Gázáig és Gósen egész földjén Gibeonig.
42 Al these kings and their territory Joshua captured in a single campaign, because Yahweh, God ofIsrael, fought for Israel.	42 Mindezeket a királyokat és földjüket egy felvonulás során vette be, s pusztította el, mert az Úr, Izrael Istene hadakozott érte.
43 And then Joshua, and al Israel with him, went back to the camp at Gilgal.	43 Aztán visszatért egész Izraellel a tábor helyére, Gilgálba.
