And so, brothers, I was not able to talk to you as spiritual people; I had to talk to you as people stilliving by your natural inclinations, stil infants in Christ;1 And so, brothers, I was not able to speak to you as if to those who are spiritual, but rather as if to those who are carnal. For you are like infants in Christ.
I fed you with milk and not solid food, for you were not yet able to take it -- and even now, you are stilnot able to,2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food. For you were not yet able. And indeed, even now, you are not able; for you are still carnal.
for you are still living by your natural inclinations. As long as there are jealousy and rivalry among you, that surely means that you are stil living by your natural inclinations and by merely human principles.3 And since there is still envy and contention among you, are you not carnal, and are you not walking according to man?
While there is one that says, 'I belong to Paul' and another that says, 'I belong to Apol os' are you notbeing only too human?4 For if one says, “Certainly, I am of Paul,” while another says, “I am of Apollo,” are you not men? But what is Apollo, and what is Paul?
For what is Apollos and what is Paul? The servants through whom you came to believe, and each hasonly what the Lord has given him.5 We are only the ministers of him in whom you have believed, just as the Lord has granted to each of you.
I did the planting, Apol os did the watering, but God gave growth.6 I planted, Apollo watered, but God provided the growth.
In this, neither the planter nor the waterer counts for anything; only God, who gives growth.7 And so, neither he who plants, nor he who waters, is anything, but only God, who provides the growth.
It is al one who does the planting and who does the watering, and each will have the proper pay for thework that he has done.8 Now he who plants, and he who waters, are one. But each shall receive his proper reward, according to his labors.
After all, we do share in God's work; you are God's farm, God's building.9 For we are God’s assistants. You are God’s cultivation; you are God’s construction.
By the grace of God which was given to me, I laid the foundations like a trained master-builder, andsomeone else is building on them. Now each one must be careful how he does the building.10 According to the grace of God, which has been given to me, I have laid the foundation like a wise architect. But another builds upon it. So then, let each one be careful how he builds upon it.
For nobody can lay down any other foundation than the one which is there already, namely JesusChrist.11 For no one is able to lay any other foundation, in place of that which has been laid, which is Christ Jesus.
On this foundation, different people may build in gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw12 But if anyone builds upon this foundation, whether gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble,
but each person's handiwork wil be shown for what it is. The Day which dawns in fire will make it clearand the fire itself wil test the quality of each person's work.13 each one’s work shall be made manifest. For the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it will be revealed by fire. And this fire will test each one’s work, as to what kind it is.
The one whose work stands up to it wil be given his wages;14 If anyone’s work, which he has built upon it, remains, then he will receive a reward.
the one whose work is burnt down wil suffer the loss of it, though he himself will be saved; he wil besaved as someone might expect to be saved from a fire.15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer its loss, but he himself will still be saved, but only as through fire.
Do you not realise that you are a temple of God with the Spirit of God living in you?16 Do you not know that you are the Temple of God, and that the Spirit of God lives within you?
If anybody should destroy the temple of God, God will destroy that person, because God's temple isholy; and you are that temple.17 But if anyone violates the Temple of God, God will destroy him. For the Temple of God is holy, and you are that Temple.
There is no room for self-delusion. Any one of you who thinks he is wise by worldly standards mustlearn to be a fool in order to be real y wise.18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become foolish, so that he may be truly wise.
For the wisdom of the world is folly to God. As scripture says: He traps the crafty in the snare of theirown cunning19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. And so it has been written: “I will catch the wise in their own astuteness.”
and again: The Lord knows the plans of the wise and how insipid they are.20 And again: “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.”
So there is to be no boasting about human beings: everything belongs to you,21 And so, let no one glory in men.
whether it is Paul, or Apol os, or Cephas, the world, life or death, the present or the future -- al belongto you;22 For all is yours: whether Paul, or Apollo, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future. Yes, all is yours.
but you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God.23 But you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
