1 Now when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with any brilliance of oratory or wise argument toannounce to you the mystery of God.	1 Também eu, quando fui ter convosco, irmãos, não fui com o prestígio da eloqüência nem da sabedoria anunciar-vos o testemunho de Deus.
2 I was resolved that the only knowledge I would have while I was with you was knowledge of Jesus, andof him as the crucified Christ.	2 Julguei não dever saber coisa alguma entre vós, senão Jesus Cristo, e Jesus Cristo crucificado.
3 I came among you in weakness, in fear and great trembling	3 Eu me apresentei em vosso meio num estado de fraqueza, de desassossego e de temor.
4 and what I spoke and proclaimed was not meant to convince by philosophical argument, but todemonstrate the convincing power of the Spirit,	4 A minha palavra e a minha pregação longe estavam da eloqüência persuasiva da sabedoria; eram, antes, uma demonstração do Espírito e do poder divino,
5 so that your faith should depend not on human wisdom but on the power of God.	5 para que vossa fé não se baseasse na sabedoria dos homens, mas no poder de Deus.
6 But stil , to those who have reached maturity, we do talk of a wisdom, not, it is true, a philosophy of thisage or of the rulers of this age, who will not last long now.	6 Entretanto, o que pregamos entre os perfeitos é uma sabedoria, porém não a sabedoria deste mundo nem a dos grandes deste mundo, que são, aos olhos daquela, desqualificados.
7 It is of the mysterious wisdom of God that we talk, the wisdom that was hidden, which God predestinedto be for our glory before the ages began.	7 Pregamos a sabedoria de Deus, misteriosa e secreta, que Deus predeterminou antes de existir o tempo, para a nossa glória.
8 None of the rulers of the age recognised it; for if they had recognised it, they would not have crucifiedthe Lord of glory;	8 Sabedoria que nenhuma autoridade deste mundo conheceu {pois se a houvessem conhecido, não teriam crucificado o Senhor da glória}.
9 but it is as scripture says: What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, what the mind of man cannotvisualise; al that God has prepared for those who love him;	9 É como está escrito: Coisas que os olhos não viram, nem os ouvidos ouviram, nem o coração humano imaginou {Is 64,4}, tais são os bens que Deus tem preparado para aqueles que o amam.
10 to us, though, God has given revelation through the Spirit, for the Spirit explores the depths ofeverything, even the depths of God.	10 Todavia, Deus no-las revelou pelo seu Espírito, porque o Espírito penetra tudo, mesmo as profundezas de Deus.
11 After al , is there anyone who knows the qualities of anyone except his own spirit, within him; and inthe same way, nobody knows the qualities of God except the Spirit of God.	11 Pois quem conhece as coisas que há no homem, senão o espírito do homem que nele reside? Assim também as coisas de Deus ninguém as conhece, senão o Espírito de Deus.
12 Now, the Spirit we have received is not the spirit of the world but God's own Spirit, so that we mayunderstand the lavish gifts God has given us.	12 Ora, nós não recebemos o espírito do mundo, mas sim o Espírito que vem de Deus, que nos dá a conhecer as graças que Deus nos prodigalizou
13 And these are what we speak of, not in the terms learnt from human philosophy, but in terms learntfrom the Spirit, fitting spiritual language to spiritual things.	13 e que pregamos numa linguagem que nos foi ensinada não pela sabedoria humana, mas pelo Espírito, que exprime as coisas espirituais em termos espirituais.
14 The natural person has no room for the gifts of God's Spirit; to him they are folly; he cannot recognisethem, because their value can be assessed only in the Spirit.	14 Mas o homem natural não aceita as coisas do Espírito de Deus, pois para ele são loucuras. Nem as pode compreender, porque é pelo Espírito que se devem ponderar.
15 The spiritual person, on the other hand, can assess the value of everything, and that person's valuecannot be assessed by anybody else.	15 O homem espiritual, ao contrário, julga todas as coisas e não é julgado por ninguém.
16 For: who has ever known the mind of the Lord? Who has ever been his adviser? But we are thosewho have the mind of Christ.	16 Por que quem conheceu o pensamento do Senhor, se abalançará a instruí-lo {Is 40,13}? Nós, porém, temos o pensamento de Cristo.
