1 Corinthians 2

1 Now when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with any brilliance of oratory or wise argument toannounce to you the mystery of God.	1 Et ego, cum venissem ad vos,fratres, veni non per sublimita tem sermonis aut sapientiae annuntians vobismysterium Dei.
2 I was resolved that the only knowledge I would have while I was with you was knowledge of Jesus, andof him as the crucified Christ.	2 Non enim iudicavi scire me aliquid inter vos nisi IesumChristum et hunc crucifixum.
3 I came among you in weakness, in fear and great trembling	3 Et ego in infirmitate et timore et tremore multofui apud vos,
4 and what I spoke and proclaimed was not meant to convince by philosophical argument, but todemonstrate the convincing power of the Spirit,	4 et sermo meus et praedicatio mea non in persuasibilibussapientiae verbis sed in ostensione Spiritus et virtutis,
5 so that your faith should depend not on human wisdom but on the power of God.	5 ut fides vestra nonsit in sapientia hominum sed in virtute Dei.
6 But stil , to those who have reached maturity, we do talk of a wisdom, not, it is true, a philosophy of thisage or of the rulers of this age, who will not last long now.	6 Sapientiam autem loquimur inter perfectos, sapientiam vero non huius saeculineque principum huius saeculi, qui destruuntur,
7 It is of the mysterious wisdom of God that we talk, the wisdom that was hidden, which God predestinedto be for our glory before the ages began.	7 sed loquimur Dei sapientiam inmysterio, quae abscondita est, quam praedestinavit Deus ante saecula in gloriamnostram,
8 None of the rulers of the age recognised it; for if they had recognised it, they would not have crucifiedthe Lord of glory;	8 quam nemo principum huius saeculi cognovit; si enim cognovissent,numquam Dominum gloriae crucifixissent.
9 but it is as scripture says: What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, what the mind of man cannotvisualise; al that God has prepared for those who love him;	9 Sed sicut scriptum est: “ Quodoculus non vidit, nec auris audivit, nec in cor hominis ascendit, quaepraeparavit Deus his, qui diligunt illum ”.
10 to us, though, God has given revelation through the Spirit, for the Spirit explores the depths ofeverything, even the depths of God.	10 Nobis autem revelavit Deus per Spiritum; Spiritus enim omnia scrutatur, etiamprofunda Dei.
11 After al , is there anyone who knows the qualities of anyone except his own spirit, within him; and inthe same way, nobody knows the qualities of God except the Spirit of God.	11 Quis enim scit hominum, quae sint hominis, nisi spiritushominis, qui in ipso est? Ita et, quae Dei sunt, nemo cognovit nisi SpiritusDei.
12 Now, the Spirit we have received is not the spirit of the world but God's own Spirit, so that we mayunderstand the lavish gifts God has given us.	12 Nos autem non spiritum mundi accepimus, sed Spiritum, qui ex Deo est, utsciamus, quae a Deo donata sunt nobis;
13 And these are what we speak of, not in the terms learnt from human philosophy, but in terms learntfrom the Spirit, fitting spiritual language to spiritual things.	13 quae et loquimur non in doctis humanaesapientiae sed in doctis Spiritus verbis, spiritalibus spiritalia comparantes.
14 The natural person has no room for the gifts of God's Spirit; to him they are folly; he cannot recognisethem, because their value can be assessed only in the Spirit.	14 Animalis autem homo non percipit, quae sunt Spiritus Dei, stultitia enim suntilli, et non potest intellegere, quia spiritaliter examinantur;
15 The spiritual person, on the other hand, can assess the value of everything, and that person's valuecannot be assessed by anybody else.	15 spiritalisautem iudicat omnia, et ipse a nemine iudicatur.
16 For: who has ever known the mind of the Lord? Who has ever been his adviser? But we are thosewho have the mind of Christ.	16 Quis enim cognovit sensum Domini, qui instruat eum? Nos autem sensum Christi habemus.
