1 Paul, cal ed by the wil of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and Sosthenes, our brother,	1 Pál, Jézus Krisztusnak Isten akaratából meghívott apostola, és Szosztenész testvér,

20 Where are the philosophers? Where are the experts? And where are the debaters of this age? Do younot see how God has shown up human wisdom as fol y?	20 Hol van a bölcs? Hol az írástudó? Hol e világnak kutatója? Nemde oktalansággá tette Isten a világ bölcsességét?
21 Since in the wisdom of God the world was unable to recognise God through wisdom, it was God's ownpleasure to save believers through the fol y of the gospel.	21 Mivel ugyanis a világ Isten bölcsessége révén nem ismerte meg bölcsességgel az Istent, úgy tetszett Istennek, hogy az igehirdetés oktalansága által üdvözítse a hívőket.
22 While the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,	22 Mert a zsidók csodajeleket kívánnak, a görögök pedig bölcsességet keresnek,
23 we are preaching a crucified Christ: to the Jews an obstacle they cannot get over, to the gentilesfoolishness,	23 mi azonban a keresztrefeszített Krisztust hirdetjük, ami ugyan a zsidóknak botrány, a pogányoknak pedig oktalanság;

26 Consider, brothers, how you were cal ed; not many of you are wise by human standards, not manyinfluential, not many from noble families.	26 Mert nézzétek csak meghívásotokat, testvérek: nem sok köztetek a bölcs az emberek megítélése szerint, nem sok a hatalmas, nem sok az előkelő;
27 No, God chose those who by human standards are fools to shame the wise; he chose those who byhuman standards are weak to shame the strong,	27 hanem azt, ami a világ szerint oktalan, azt választotta ki Isten, hogy megszégyenítse a bölcseket, és ami a világ szerint gyönge, azt választotta ki Isten, hogy megszégyenítse az erőseket.
28 those who by human standards are common and contemptible -- indeed those who count for nothing-- to reduce to nothing al those that do count for something,	28 Ami a világ szerint alacsonyrendű és megvetett, azt választotta ki Isten: azt, ami semmi, hogy azt, ami valami, megsemmisítse,
