NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Paul, cal ed by the wil of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and Sosthenes, our brother,1 Paolo, chiamato ad essere apostolo di Gesù Cristo per volontà di Dio, e il fratello Sòstene,
to the church of God in Corinth, to those who have been consecrated in Christ Jesus and cal ed to beGod's holy people, with al those everywhere who cal on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord as wel asours.2 alla Chiesa di Dio che è in Corinto, a coloro che sono stati santificati in Cristo Gesù, chiamati ad essere santi insieme a tutti quelli che in ogni luogo invocano il nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, Signore nostro e loro:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 grazia a voi e pace da Dio Padre nostro e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.
I am continual y thanking God about you, for the grace of God which you have been given in ChristJesus;4 Ringrazio continuamente il mio Dio per voi, a motivo della grazia di Dio che vi è stata data in Cristo Gesù,
in him you have been richly endowed in every kind of utterance and knowledge;5 perché in lui siete stati arricchiti di tutti i doni, quelli della parola e quelli della scienza.
so firmly has witness to Christ taken root in you.6 La testimonianza di Cristo si è infatti stabilita tra voi così saldamente,
And so you are not lacking in any gift as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed;7 che nessun dono di grazia più vi manca, mentre aspettate la manifestazione del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
he will continue to give you strength till the very end, so that you will be irreproachable on the Day ofour Lord Jesus Christ.8 Egli vi confermerà sino alla fine, irreprensibili nel giorno del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo:
You can rely on God, who has called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.9 fedele è Dio, dal quale siete stati chiamati alla comunione del Figlio suo Gesù Cristo, Signore nostro!

Brothers, I urge you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, not to have factions among yourselves butal to be in agreement in what you profess; so that you are perfectly united in your beliefs and judgements.10 Vi esorto pertanto, fratelli, per il nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, ad essere tutti unanimi nel parlare, perché non vi siano divisioni tra voi, ma siate in perfetta unione di pensiero e d'intenti.
From what Chloe's people have been telling me about you, brothers, it is clear that there are seriousdifferences among you.11 Mi è stato segnalato infatti a vostro riguardo, fratelli, dalla gente di Cloe, che vi sono discordie tra voi.
What I mean is this: every one of you is declaring, 'I belong to Paul,' or 'I belong to Apollos,' or 'Ibelong to Cephas,' or 'I belong to Christ.'12 Mi riferisco al fatto che ciascuno di voi dice: "Io sono di Paolo", "Io invece sono di Apollo", "E io di Cefa", "E io di Cristo!".
Has Christ been split up? Was it Paul that was crucified for you, or was it in Paul's name that you werebaptised?13 Cristo è stato forse diviso? Forse Paolo è stato crocifisso per voi, o è nel nome di Paolo che siete stati battezzati?
I am thankful I did not baptise any of you, except Crispus and Gaius,14 Ringrazio Dio di non aver battezzato nessuno di voi, se non Crispo e Gaio,
so that no one can say that you were baptised in my name.15 perché nessuno possa dire che siete stati battezzati nel mio nome.
Yes, I did baptise the family of Stephanas, too; but besides these I do not think I baptised anyone.16 Ho battezzato, è vero, anche la famiglia di Stefana, ma degli altri non so se abbia battezzato alcuno.

After al , Christ sent me not to baptise, but to preach the gospel; and not by means of wisdom oflanguage, wise words which would make the cross of Christ pointless.17 Cristo infatti non mi ha mandato a battezzare, ma a predicare il vangelo; non però con un discorso sapiente, perché non venga resa vana la croce di Cristo.
The message of the cross is fol y for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of us who are onthe road to salvation it is the power of God.18 La parola della croce infatti è stoltezza per quelli cha vanno in perdizione, ma per quelli che si salvano, per noi, è potenza di Dio.
As scripture says: I am going to destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing theunderstanding of any who understand.19 Sta scritto infatti:

'Distruggerò la sapienza dei sapienti
e annullerò l'intelligenza degli intelligenti'.

Where are the philosophers? Where are the experts? And where are the debaters of this age? Do younot see how God has shown up human wisdom as fol y?20 'Dov'è il sapiente? Dov'è il dotto'? Dove mai il sottile ragionatore di questo mondo? Non ha forse Dio dimostrato stolta la sapienza di questo mondo?
Since in the wisdom of God the world was unable to recognise God through wisdom, it was God's ownpleasure to save believers through the fol y of the gospel.21 Poiché, infatti, nel disegno sapiente di Dio il mondo, con tutta la sua sapienza, non ha conosciuto Dio, è piaciuto a Dio di salvare i credenti con la stoltezza della predicazione.
While the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,22 E mentre i Giudei chiedono i miracoli e i Greci cercano la sapienza,
we are preaching a crucified Christ: to the Jews an obstacle they cannot get over, to the gentilesfoolishness,23 noi predichiamo Cristo crocifisso, scandalo per i Giudei, stoltezza per i pagani;
but to those who have been cal ed, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is both the powerof God and the wisdom of God.24 ma per coloro che sono chiamati, sia Giudei che Greci, predichiamo Cristo potenza di Dio e sapienza di Dio.
God's fol y is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.25 Perché ciò che è stoltezza di Dio è più sapiente degli uomini, e ciò che è debolezza di Dio è più forte degli uomini.
Consider, brothers, how you were cal ed; not many of you are wise by human standards, not manyinfluential, not many from noble families.26 Considerate infatti la vostra chiamata, fratelli: non ci sono tra voi molti sapienti secondo la carne, non molti potenti, non molti nobili.
No, God chose those who by human standards are fools to shame the wise; he chose those who byhuman standards are weak to shame the strong,27 Ma Dio ha scelto ciò che nel mondo è stolto per confondere i sapienti, Dio ha scelto ciò che nel mondo è debole per confondere i forti,
those who by human standards are common and contemptible -- indeed those who count for nothing-- to reduce to nothing al those that do count for something,28 Dio ha scelto ciò che nel mondo è ignobile e disprezzato e ciò che è nulla per ridurre a nulla le cose che sono,
so that no human being might feel boastful before God.29 perché nessun uomo possa gloriarsi davanti a Dio.
It is by him that you exist in Christ Jesus, who for us was made wisdom from God, and saving justiceand holiness and redemption.30 Ed è per lui che voi siete in Cristo Gesù, il quale per opera di Dio è diventato per noi sapienza, giustizia, santificazione e redenzione,
As scripture says: If anyone wants to boast, let him boast of the Lord.31 perché, come sta scritto:

'Chi si vanta si vanti nel Signore'.
