1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,	1 Dopo queste cose, partito da Atene, andò a Corinto.
2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul went to visit them,	2 E avendovi trovato un certo giudeo chiamata Aquila, nativo del Ponto, venuto di fresco dall'Italia, e Priscilla la sua moglie (avendo Claudio ordinato che partissero da Rema tutti i Giudei), andò a stare con loro.
3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.	3 E perchè aveva lo stesso mestiere (facevano le tende), dimorava con essi e lavorava.
4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.	4 Ed ogni sabato disputava nella sinagoga, interponendo il nome del Signore Gesù, e convinceva i Giudei e i Greci.
5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.	5 Ma quando arrivarono dalla Macedonia Sila e Timoteo, Paolo si consacrò tutto quanto alla predicazione, testimoniando ai Giudei che Gesù era il Cristo.
6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'	6 Ma contraddicendolo con bestemmie i Giudei, egli scosse le sue vesti e disse loro: Il vostro sangue sul vostro capo: io non ci ho colpa, d'ora innanzi andrò ai gentili.
7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.	7 E uscito di li andò in casa di uno chiamato Tito Giusto, che onorava Dio, la cui casa era contigua alla sinagoga.
8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.	8 E l'arcisinagogo Crispo con tutta la sua famiglia credette nel Signore; e molti dei Corinti, dopo averlo ascoltato, credevano ed erano battezzati.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:	9 E il Signore disse in una notte in visione a Paolo: non temere; ma parla, e non tacere;
10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'	10 chè io sono teco, e nessuno ardirà farti del male perchè io ho un gran popolo in questa città.
11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.	11 E vi si fermò un anno e sei mesi, insegnando loro la parola di Dio.
12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,	12 Essendo poi proconsole d'Acaia Gallione, i Giudei tutti d'accordo si levarono contro Paolo e lo menarono al tribunale dicendo:
13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'	13 Costui persuade la gente ad adorare Dio, in modo contrario alla legge.
14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;	14 E, mentre Paolo cominciava ad aprire bocca, Gallione disse ai Giudei: Se veramente si trattasse di qualche ingiustizia, o di qualche azione malvagia, io, o Giudei, vi sosterrei come di ragione,
15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'	15 ma se son questioni di parole e di nomi, e intorno alla vostra legge, pensateci voi: io non voglio essere giudice in tali cose.
16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,	16 E li mandò via dal tribunale.
17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .	17 Ma quelli, preso tutti d'accordo Sostene, l'arcisinagogo, lo battevano davanti al tribunale e Gallione non se ne curava per niente.
18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.	18 E Paolo fermatosi ancora paie?chi giorni, detto addio ai fratelli, navigò verso la Siria, e con lui Priscilla ed Aquila, dopo essersi tosato il capo in Cencrea; perchè aveva fatto un voto.
19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.	19 E arrivato ad Efeso, li lasciò. Ed egli, entrato nella sinagoga, disputava coi Giudei.
20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,	20 E pregandolo questi che si fermasse più a lungo con loro, non condiscese;
21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.	21 ma licenziatosi col dire: Un'altra volta, a Dio piacendo, tornerò a voi, fe' vela da Efeso
22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch	22 e sbarcato a Cesarea, si portò a salutare la chiesa, e poi andò ad Antiochia.
23 where he spent a short time before continuing his journey through the Galatian country and thenthrough Phrygia, encouraging al the followers.	23 E dopo essersi fermato lì alquanto, se ne partì scorrendo successivamente il paese della Galazia e della Frigia, confermando tutti i discepoli.
24 An Alexandrian Jew named Apol os now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a soundknowledge of the scriptures, and yet,	24 Ma un certo giudeo, chiamato Apollo, oriundo di Alessandria, uomo eloquente e potente nelle Scritture, giunse ad Efeso.
25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.	25 Questi aveva imparato la via del Signore, e fervoroso di spirito parlava ed insegnava con esattezza ciò che riguardava Gesù, pur conoscendo il solo battesimo di Giovanni.
26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.	26 Or egli incominciò a parlare con franchezza nella sinagoga e Priscilla ed Aquila, avendolo ascoltato, lo presero seco e gli esposero più minutamente la via del Signore.
27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably	27 E siccome lui voleva recarsi in Acaia, i fratelli avendolo stimolato, scrissero ai discepoli di riceverlo. 28 by the energetic way he refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating from the scriptures that Jesus wasthe Christ.	28 perchè con grande efficacia convinceva i Giudei, pubblicamente, mostrando colle Scritture che Gesù è il Cristo.
