Acts of the Apostles 18

1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,	1 Ezek után eltávozott Athénból, és elment Korintusba.
2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. 5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.	5 Amikor pedig Szilás és Timóteus megjöttek Makedóniából, Pál még többet fáradozott az igehirdetésben, és bizonyította a zsidóknak, hogy Jézus a Krisztus.
6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'	6 Mivel azok káromlások között ellentmondtak neki, lerázta ruháit, és azt mondta nekik: »A fejeteken a véretek! 7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.	7 Elköltözött tehát onnan, és betért egy bizonyos Tíciusz Jusztusz nevű istenfélő férfinak a házába. Az illető háza a zsinagóga mellé épült.
8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.	8 Kriszpusz pedig, a zsinagóga elöljárója hitt az Úrban egész házával együtt, sőt, a korintusiak közül sokan, akik hallgatták, hittek és megkeresztelkedtek.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:	9 Az Úr pedig azt mondta éjjel látomásban Pálnak: »Ne félj, csak beszélj és ne hallgass,
10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'	10 mert én veled vagyok. Senki sem fog hozzád nyúlni, hogy ártson neked, mert sok népem van nekem ebben a városban.«
11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.	11 Ott maradt tehát egy évig és hat hónapig, s közben tanította nekik az Isten igéjét.
12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,	12 Egyszer azonban, amikor Gallió volt Akhája prokonzulja, a zsidók egy akarattal rátámadtak Pálra. Odavitték az ítélőszékhez,

14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;	14 Mielőtt azonban Pál szóra nyitotta volna száját, Gallió így szólt a zsidókhoz: »Zsidó férfiak! 15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'	15 De ha tanításról, nevekről és a ti törvényetekről folyik a vita, intézzétek el magatok. Ezekben én nem akarok bíró lenni.«
16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,	16 S elűzte őket az ítélőszéktől.
17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .	17 Erre mindnyájan megragadták Szosztenészt, a zsinagóga elöljáróját, és megverték az ítélőszék előtt, de Gallió ezzel sem törődött semmit.
18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.	18 Pál pedig még jó ideig ott maradt, aztán búcsút vett a testvérektől. 19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.	19 Efezusba érkezve elvált tőlük. Bement a zsinagógába, és vitatkozott a zsidókkal.
20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,	20 Bár az ottaniak kérték, hogy huzamosabb ideig maradjon, nem állt rá,

26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.	26 Bátran kezdett tehát működni a zsinagógában. 27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him.
