1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,	1 Dopo questi fatti Paolo lasciò Atene e si recò a Corinto.
2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul went to visit them,	2 Qui trovò un Giudeo di nome Aquila, nativo del Ponto, arrivato poco prima dall’Italia, con la moglie Priscilla, in seguito all’ordine di Claudio che allontanava da Roma tutti i Giudei. Paolo si recò da loro
3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.	3 e, poiché erano del medesimo mestiere, si stabilì in casa loro e lavorava. Di mestiere, infatti, erano fabbricanti di tende.
4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.	4 Ogni sabato poi discuteva nella sinagoga e cercava di persuadere Giudei e Greci.
5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.	5 Quando Sila e Timòteo giunsero dalla Macedonia, Paolo cominciò a dedicarsi tutto alla Parola, testimoniando davanti ai Giudei che Gesù è il Cristo.
6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'	6 Ma, poiché essi si opponevano e lanciavano ingiurie, egli, scuotendosi le vesti, disse: «Il vostro sangue ricada sul vostro capo: io sono innocente. D’ora in poi me ne andrò dai pagani».
7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.	7 Se ne andò di là ed entrò nella casa di un tale, di nome Tizio Giusto, uno che venerava Dio, la cui abitazione era accanto alla sinagoga.
8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.	8 Crispo, capo della sinagoga, credette nel Signore insieme a tutta la sua famiglia; e molti dei Corinzi, ascoltando Paolo, credevano e si facevano battezzare.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:	9 Una notte, in visione, il Signore disse a Paolo: «Non aver paura; continua a parlare e non tacere,
10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'	10 perché io sono con te e nessuno cercherà di farti del male: in questa città io ho un popolo numeroso».
11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.	11 Così Paolo si fermò un anno e mezzo, e insegnava fra loro la parola di Dio.
12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,	12 Mentre Gallione era proconsole dell’Acaia, i Giudei insorsero unanimi contro Paolo e lo condussero davanti al tribunale
13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'	13 dicendo: «Costui persuade la gente a rendere culto a Dio in modo contrario alla Legge».
14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;	14 Paolo stava per rispondere, ma Gallione disse ai Giudei: «Se si trattasse di un delitto o di un misfatto, io vi ascolterei, o Giudei, come è giusto.
15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'	15 Ma se sono questioni di parole o di nomi o della vostra Legge, vedetevela voi: io non voglio essere giudice di queste faccende».
16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,	16 E li fece cacciare dal tribunale.
17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .	17 Allora tutti afferrarono Sòstene, capo della sinagoga, e lo percossero davanti al tribunale, ma Gallione non si curava affatto di questo.
18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.	18 Paolo si trattenne ancora diversi giorni, poi prese congedo dai fratelli e s’imbarcò diretto in Siria, in compagnia di Priscilla e Aquila. A Cencre si era rasato il capo a causa di un voto che aveva fatto.
19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.	19 Giunsero a Èfeso, dove lasciò i due coniugi e, entrato nella sinagoga, si mise a discutere con i Giudei.
20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,	20 Questi lo pregavano di fermarsi più a lungo, ma non acconsentì.
21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.	21 Tuttavia congedandosi disse: «Ritornerò di nuovo da voi, se Dio vorrà»; quindi partì da Èfeso.
22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch	22 Sbarcato a Cesarèa, salì a Gerusalemme a salutare la Chiesa e poi scese ad Antiòchia.
23 where he spent a short time before continuing his journey through the Galatian country and thenthrough Phrygia, encouraging al the followers.	23 Trascorso là un po’ di tempo, partì: percorreva di seguito la regione della Galazia e la Frìgia, confermando tutti i discepoli.
24 An Alexandrian Jew named Apol os now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a soundknowledge of the scriptures, and yet,	24 Arrivò a Èfeso un Giudeo, di nome Apollo, nativo di Alessandria, uomo colto, esperto nelle Scritture.
25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.	25 Questi era stato istruito nella via del Signore e, con animo ispirato, parlava e insegnava con accuratezza ciò che si riferiva a Gesù, sebbene conoscesse soltanto il battesimo di Giovanni.
26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.	26 Egli cominciò a parlare con franchezza nella sinagoga. Priscilla e Aquila lo ascoltarono, poi lo presero con sé e gli esposero con maggiore accuratezza la via di Dio.
27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably	27 Poiché egli desiderava passare in Acaia, i fratelli lo incoraggiarono e scrissero ai discepoli di fargli buona accoglienza. Giunto là, fu molto utile a quelli che, per opera della grazia, erano divenuti credenti.
28 by the energetic way he refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating from the scriptures that Jesus wasthe Christ.	28 Confutava infatti vigorosamente i Giudei, dimostrando pubblicamente attraverso le Scritture che Gesù è il Cristo.
