1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,	1 Dopo di ciò Paolo partì da Atene e venne a Corinto,
2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul went to visit them,	2 dove trovò un giudeo di nome Aquila, nativo del Ponto, appena giunto dall'Italia con sua moglie Priscilla, perché Claudio aveva ordinato che tutti i Giudei se ne andassero da Roma. Paolo si recò da essi
3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.	3 e, poiché era dello stesso mestiere, rimase ad alloggiare presso di loro e lavorava: infatti erano fabbricanti di tende.
4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.	4 Ogni sabato poi parlava nella sinagoga e cercava di persuadere i Giudei e i Greci.
5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.	5 Quando poi Sila e Timoteo giunsero dalla Macedonia, Paolo si diede tutto alla predicazione, attestando ai Giudei che Gesù era il Cristo.
6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'	6 Ma resistendo essi e lanciando bestemmie, egli scosse la polvere dalle vesti dicendo loro: "Il vostro sangue cadrà sul vostro capo: io non ne ho colpa. Da questo momento andrò dai pagani".
7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.	7 E di là si trasferì presso un certo Tizio Giusto, che onorava Dio, la cui casa era contigua alla sinagoga.
8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.	8 Crispo, capo della sinagoga, credette al Signore con tutta la sua casa, e molti dei Corinzi che avevano ascoltato Paolo credevano e si facevano battezzare.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:	9 Il Signore una notte disse in visione a Paolo: "Non temere, ma continua a parlare e non tacere,
10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'	10 perché io sono con te e nessuno metterà le mani su di te per farti del male; poiché c'è per me un popolo numeroso in questa città".
11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.	11 Così Paolo rimase per un anno e sei mesi insegnando in mezzo ad essi la parola di Dio.
12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,	12 Mentre Gallione era proconsole dell'Acaia, i Giudei si mossero unanimi contro Paolo e lo condussero davanti al tribunale
13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'	13 dicendo: "Costui induce la gente a onorare Dio in modo contrario alla legge".
14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;	14 Paolo stava per aprire la bocca, ma Gallione disse ai Giudei: "Se si trattasse di un delitto o di un'azione malvagia, o Giudei, vi ascolterei pazientemente, come è giusto.
15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'	15 Ma se si tratta di questioni di dottrina e di nomi e della vostra legge, vedetevela voi: io non voglio essere giudice di queste cose".
16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,	16 E li mandò via dal tribunale.
17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .	17 Allora tutti afferrarono Sòstene, capo della sinagoga, e lo percossero davanti al tribunale: ma Gallione non se ne preoccupava affatto.
18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.	18 Paolo, dopo essersi fermato ancora molti giorni, prese congedo dai fratelli e salpò per la Siria, avendo con sé Priscilla e Aquila. A Cencre si era fatto tagliare i capelli, poiché aveva fatto un voto.
19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.	19 Giunsero ad Efeso e quivi li lasciò. Paolo, entrato nella sinagoga, incominciò a discutere con i Giudei.
20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,	20 Essi gli chiesero di prolungare il suo soggiorno, ma egli non acconsentì.
21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.	21 Tuttavia prendendo congedo disse: "Ritornerò di nuovo tra voi, se Dio lo vorrà". E partì da Efeso.
22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch	22 Sbarcato a Cesarea, salì a salutare la chiesa, quindi discese ad Antiochia.

24 An Alexandrian Jew named Apol os now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a soundknowledge of the scriptures, and yet,	24 Frattanto capitò a Efeso un giudeo di nome Apollo, nativo di Alessandria, che era un uomo eloquente e ben ferrato nelle Scritture.
25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.	25 Egli era stato istruito nella via del Signore e, pieno di fervore, predicava e insegnava con esattezza le cose riguardanti Gesù, ma conosceva soltanto il battesimo di Giovanni.
26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.	26 Egli cominciò a predicare con franchezza nella sinagoga. Priscilla e Aquila, dopo averlo ascoltato, lo presero con loro e gli esposero con maggior esattezza la via di Dio.
27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably	27 E poiché egli desiderava passare in Acaia, i fratelli lo incoraggiarono e scrissero ai discepoli di fargli buona accoglienza.
