1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,	1 Plus tard, Paul quitta Athènes et vint à Corinthe.
2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul s’attacha à eux;
3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.	3 ils avaient le même métier et fabriquaient des tentes, aussi demeurait-il et travaillait-il avec eux.
4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.	4 Chaque sabbat il avait des entretiens à la synagogue, tâchant de convaincre les Juifs comme les Grecs.
5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.	5 Lorsque Silas et Timothée arrivèrent de Macédoine, Paul commença à se consacrer à la Parole, affirmant aux Juifs que Jésus était le Messie.
6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'	6 Eux lui répondirent avec des insultes; alors il secoua devant eux ses vêtements et leur dit: "Vous serez responsables de ce qui vous arrivera, moi je n’y serai pour rien. 7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.	7 Paul changea d’endroit; il alla vivre chez Titus Justus, un adorateur de Dieu dont la maison était juste à côté de la synagogue.
8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.	8 Un chef de la synagogue, Crispus, crut au Seigneur ainsi que toute sa maison; de même, parmi les Corinthiens qui l’écoutaient, beaucoup croyaient et se faisaient baptiser.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:	9 Une nuit le Seigneur dit à Paul dans une vision: "Ne crains pas, continue de parler, ne te tais pas.
10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'	10 Je suis avec toi et personne ne te fera de mal; sache que j’ai ici dans cette ville un peuple nombreux.”
11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.	11 Paul continua donc de leur enseigner la parole de Dieu; il demeura là un an et six mois.
12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,	12 Dans le temps où le gouverneur de l’Achaïe était Gallion, les Juifs se mirent d’accord pour manifester contre Paul. Ils le traînèrent au tribunal
13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'	13 en disant: "Cet homme veut amener les gens à servir Dieu d’une manière qui contredit la Loi.”
14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;	14 Paul allait prendre la parole lorsque Gallion dit aux Juifs: "S’il s’agissait d’un délit ou d’une action malintentionnée, j’aurais le devoir de vous écouter, messieurs les Juifs.
15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'	15 Mais si ce sont des discussions à propos de messages, de puissances supérieures ou de votre loi, voyez vous-mêmes, je ne veux pas me faire votre juge pour ces affaires-là.”
16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,	16 Là-dessus il leur fit dégager le tribunal.
17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .	17 Mais en face du tribunal tous se mirent à frapper Sosthène, qui était chef de synagogue, et Gallion ne fit rien pour l’empêcher.
18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.	18 Paul resta encore un bon bout de temps, puis il prit congé des frères et s’embarqua pour la Syrie; Priscille et Aquilas l’accompagnaient. Il avait fait un vœu et seulement quand il fut au port, à Cenchrées, il se rasa la tête.
19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.	19 Arrivé à Éphèse il se sépara d’eux. Il était entré à la synagogue et il avait commencé à parler aux Juifs.
20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,	20 Eux lui demandaient de s’attarder plus longtemps, mais il ne voulut pas.
21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.	21 Il prit congé d’eux avec ces mots: "Je reviendrai chez vous si Dieu le veut.” Puis il quitta Éphèse avec le voilier.
22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch	22 Paul débarqua à Césarée; il monta saluer l’Église, puis il descendit à Antioche.
23 where he spent a short time before continuing his journey through the Galatian country and thenthrough Phrygia, encouraging al the followers.	23 Il y resta un certain temps, puis il repartit. Il parcourut successivement la région des Galates ou, si l’on veut, la Phrygie, en vue d’affermir les disciples.
24 An Alexandrian Jew named Apol os now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a soundknowledge of the scriptures, and yet,	24 Un Juif du nom d’Apollos était arrivé à Éphèse. Il était originaire d’Alexandrie et très fort sur les Écritures; c’était un vrai orateur.
25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.	25 On lui avait enseigné le chemin du Seigneur et il parlait avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme. Il enseignait de façon correcte ce qui se rapportait à Jésus, mais il ne savait pas plus loin que le baptême de Jean.
26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.	26 Il parlait donc très librement dans la synagogue. Priscille et Aquilas l’entendirent, ils le prirent à part et lui exposèrent le Chemin plus en détail.
27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably	27 Comme il avait l’intention de passer en Achaïe, les frères l’y encouragèrent, écrivant aux disciples de là-bas de l’accueillir. De fait, quand il arriva, il aida beaucoup ceux qui avaient cru par grâce de Dieu,
28 by the energetic way he refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating from the scriptures that Jesus wasthe Christ.	28 car il discutait fermement en public avec les Juifs, prouvant par les Écritures que Jésus est le Messie.
