NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,	1 Depois disso, saindo de Atenas, Paulo dirigiu-se a Corinto.
2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul went to visit them,	2 Encontrou ali um judeu chamado Áquila, natural do Ponto, e sua mulher Priscila. Eles pouco antes haviam chegado da Itália, por Cláudio ter decretado que todos os judeus saíssem de Roma. Paulo uniu-se a eles.
3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.	3 Como exercessem o mesmo ofício, morava e trabalhava com eles. {Eram fabricantes de tendas.}
4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.	4 Todos os sábados ele falava na sinagoga e procurava convencer os judeus e os gregos.
5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.	5 Quando Silas e Timóteo chegaram da Macedônia, Paulo dedicou-se inteiramente à pregação da palavra, dando aos judeus testemunho de que Jesus era o Messias.
6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'	6 Mas como esses contradissessem e o injuriassem, ele, sacudindo as vestes, disse-lhes: O vosso sangue caia sobre a vossa cabeça! Tenho as mãos inocentes. Desde agora vou para o meio dos gentios.
7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.	7 Saindo dali, entrou em casa de um prosélito, chamado Tício Justo, cuja casa era contígua à sinagoga.
8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.	8 Entretanto Crispo, o chefe da sinagoga, acreditou no Senhor com todos os da sua casa. Sabendo disso, muitos dos coríntios, ouvintes de Paulo, acreditaram e foram batizados.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:	9 Numa noite, o Senhor disse a Paulo em visão: Não temas! Fala e não te cales.
10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'	10 Porque eu estou contigo. Ninguém se aproximará de ti para te fazer mal, pois tenho um numeroso povo nesta cidade.
11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.	11 Paulo deteve-se ali um ano e seis meses, ensinando a eles a palavra de Deus.
12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,	12 Sendo Galião procônsul da Acaia, levantaram-se os judeus de comum acordo contra Paulo e levaram-no ao tribunal e disseram:
13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'	13 Este homem persuade os ouvintes a {adotar} um culto contrário à lei.
14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;	14 Paulo ia falar, mas Galião disse aos judeus: Se fosse, na realidade, uma injustiça ou verdadeiro crime, seria razoável que vos atendesse.
15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'	15 Mas se são questões de doutrina, de nomes e da vossa lei, isso é lá convosco. Não quero ser juiz dessas coisas.
16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,	16 E mandou-o sair do tribunal.
17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .	17 Então todos pegaram em Sóstenes, chefe da sinagoga, e o espancaram diante do tribunal, sem que Galião fizesse caso algum disso.
18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.	18 Paulo permaneceu ali {em Corinto} ainda algum tempo. Depois se despediu dos irmãos e navegou para a Síria e com ele Priscila e Áquila. Antes, porém, cortara o cabelo em Cêncris, porque terminara um voto.
19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.	19 Chegaram a Éfeso, onde os deixou. Ele entrou na sinagoga e entretinha-se com os judeus.
20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,	20 Pediram-lhe estes que ficasse com eles ali por mais tempo, mas ele não quis.
21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.	21 Ao despedir-se, disse: Voltarei a vós, se Deus quiser. E partiu de Éfeso.
22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch	22 Viajou até Cesaréia, subiu {a Jerusalém} e saudou a comunidade e logo em seguida desceu a Antioquia.
23 where he spent a short time before continuing his journey through the Galatian country and thenthrough Phrygia, encouraging al the followers.	23 Aí se demorou apenas por algum tempo, partiu de novo e atravessou sucessivamente as regiões da Galácia e da Frígia, fortalecendo todos os discípulos.
24 An Alexandrian Jew named Apol os now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a soundknowledge of the scriptures, and yet,	24 Entrementes, um judeu chamado Apolo, natural de Alexandria, homem eloqüente e muito versado nas Escrituras, chegou a Éfeso.
25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.	25 Era instruído no caminho do Senhor, falava com fervor de espírito e ensinava com precisão a respeito de Jesus, embora conhecesse somente o batismo de João.
26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.	26 Começou, pois, a falar na sinagoga com desassombro. Como Priscila e Áquila o ouvissem, levaram-no consigo, e expuseram-lhe mais profundamente o caminho do Senhor.
27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably	27 Como ele quisesse ir à Acaia, os irmãos animaram-no e escreveram aos discípulos que o recebessem bem. A sua presença {em Corinto} foi, pela graça de Deus, de muito proveito para os que haviam crido,
28 by the energetic way he refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating from the scriptures that Jesus wasthe Christ.	28 pois com grande veemência refutava publicamente os judeus, provando, pelas Escrituras, que Jesus era o Messias.
