Acts of the Apostles 13

1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 C'eran nella chiesa d'Antiochia profeti e dottori: tra i quali Barnaba, Simone, chiamato il Nero e Lucio di Cirene, Manaen, fratello di latte di Erode il tetrarca e Saulo.
2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'	2 Or, mentre essi attendevano al servizio del Signore e digiunavano, disse loro lo Spirito Santo: Mettetemi a parte Saulo e Barnaba per un'opera alla quale li ho destinati.
3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.	3 Allora, dopo aver digiunato e pregato, imposte loro le mani, li accomiatarono.
4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.	4 Essi dunque, mandati dallo Spirito Santo, andarono a Seleucia, e di là navigarono sino a Cipro.
5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.	5 E giunti a Salamina annunziavano la parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe dei Giudei. Ed avevano anche nel ministero Giovanni.
6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.	6 Or avendo percorsa tutta l'isola fino a Pafo, trovarono un certo mago, falso profeta Giudeo, di nome Bariesu,
7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,	7 il quale era col proconsole Sergio Paolo, uomo prudente. Questi chiamati a sè Barnaba e Saulo, chiese di ascoltar la parola di Dio.
8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.	8 Ma Elima, o il mago, così s'interpreta il suo nome, s'opponeva loro cercando di stornare il proconsole dalla fede.
9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently	9 Ma Saulo, il quale si chiama anche Paolo, pieno di Spirito Santo, mirandolo fìsso,
10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?	10 gli disse: O pieno d'ogni inganno e d'ogni falsità, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia, tu non finisci mai di pervertire le vie dritte del Signore.
11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.	11 Or ecco su te la mano del Signore e resterai cieco senza vedere per un certo tempo il sole. E subito una tenebrosa caligine piombò su lui, e, brancolando, cercava chi gli desse la mano.
12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.	12 Allora il proconsole, visto il fatto, credette ammirando la dottrina del Signore.
13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.	13 E partitisi da Pafo, Paolo ed i suoi compagni, arrivarono a Perge in Panfilia, ma Giovanni, separatosi da loro, ritornò a Gerusalemme.
14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.	14 Essi invece spingendosi oltre Perge, arrivarono ad Antiochia di Pisidia, ed entrati di saluto nella sinagoga, si misero a sedere.
15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'	15 Dopo la lettura della legge e dei profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono a dir loro: fratelli, se avete qualche parola di esortazione da rivolgere al popolo, parlate.
16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!	16 Allora Paolo, alzatosi, e fatto cenno con la mano, disse: Israeliti e voi che temete Dio, ascoltate:
17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out	17 il Dio del popolo d'Israele elesse i padri nostri ed esaltò il popolo ancor pellegrino nella terra d'Egitto, e, alzato il suo braccio, lo trasse fuori;
18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.	18 e per quarantanni ne sopportò i costumi nel deserto.
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land	19 Distrutte poi sette nazioni della terra di Canaan, ne distribuì loro a sorte la terra;
20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.	20 quattrocento cinquanta anni dopo e più tardi diede i Giudici fino a Samuele profeta.
21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,	21 Chiesero poi un re, e Dio diede loro, per quarantanni, Saul, figlio di Cis, uomo della tribù di Beniamino;
22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."	22 e, rimossolo, suscitò loro per re David, al quale rese questa testimonianza: Ho trovato David figlio di lesse uomo secondo il mio cuore, che farà tutti i miei voleri.
23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,	23 Dal seme di lui, Dio, secondo la sua promessa trasse il Salvatore d'Israele Gesù,
24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.	24 facendo, prima della sua venuta, predicare da Giovanni il battesimo di penitenza a tutto il popolo d'Israele.
25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."	25 Or Giovanni, compiendo la sua missione, diceva: Chi credete che io sia? Non sono io quello, ma ecco viene dopo di me uno a cui io non son degno di sciogliere i sandali dai piedi.
26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.	26 Fratelli miei, figli della stirpe di Abramo, e voi tutti che temete Dio, la parola di questa salvezza è stata mandata a voi.
27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f	27 Infatti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e i loro capi, non avendo conosciuto lui, nè le parole dei profeti, che si leggono ogni sabato, condannandolo, le adempirono,
28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.	28 e sebbene in lui non avessero trovato alcun motivo di morte, chiesero a Pilato di farlo morire.
29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.	29 E dopo ch'ebbero compiute tutte le cose che erano scritte di lui, depostolo dalla croce, lo posero nel sepolcro.
30 But God raised him from the dead,	30 Ma Dio lo risuscitò dai morti il terzo giorno, e fu visto per molti giorni da coloro
31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.	31 che erano andati insieme a lui dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme, e che ora sono suoi testimoni presso il popolo.
32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.	32 E noi v'annunziamo che la promessa fatta ai nostri padri, Dio l'ha adempiuta per i nostri figli
33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.	33 avendo risuscitato Gesù; come anche sta scritto nel Salmo secondo: tu sei il mio Figlio, io oggi ti ho generato.
34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.	34 Che poi lo abbia risuscitato dai morti, da non veder la corruzione, disse così: Vi manterrò le promesse fatte a David;
35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.	35 e per questo altrove dice:. Non permetterai che il tuo Santo veda la corruzione.
36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.	36 Or David dopo aver nella vita compiuti i voleri di Dio, si addormentò e fu aggiunto ai suoi padri e vide la corruzione.
37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.	37 Ma quello che Dio risuscitò non vide la corruzione.
38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify	38 Vi sia dunque noto, o fratelli miei, che per lui ora v'è annunziata la liberazione dai peccati e da tutte quelle cose dalle quali non avete potuto essere giustificati per la legge di Mosè.
39 is being offered to every believer.	39 Chi crede è giustificato in lui.
40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.	40 Or badate che non v'accada quanto sta scritto nei profeti:
41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'	41 Mirate, o spregiatori, stupite, dileguatevi; perchè io fo un'opera ai vostri giorni, opera che voi non credete se qualcuno ve lo racconterà.
42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.	42 E mentre uscivano, li pregarono di parlare nel sabato seguente sul medesimo soggetto.
43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.	43 Scioltasi poi l'adunanza, molti dei Giudei e dei proseliti seguirono Paolo e Barnaba, i quali coi loro discorsi li persuadevano a perseverare nella grazia di Dio.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.	44 Però, il sabato seguente, quasi tutta la città corse per sentire la parola di Dio.
45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.	45 Ma i Giudei, veduta la folla, furono pieni di gelosia e, bestemmiando, essi contraddicevano alle parole dette da Paolo.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.	46 Allora Paolo e Barnaba dissero risolutamente: Era necessario annunziare prima a voi la parola di Dio; ma giacché la rigettate e da voi stessi vi giudicate indegni della vita eterna, ecco che ci rivolgiamo ai Gentili.
47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'	47 Perchè così ci ha ordinato il Signore: Ti ho posto per essere luce delle nazioni, affinchè tu porti la salvezza fino all'estremo del mondo.
48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.	48 Udendo questo i Gentili si rallegravano e glorificavan la parola del Signore e quanti erano predestinati alla vita eterna credettero.
49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.	49 E la parola di Dio si diffondeva per tutto il paese.
50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.	50 Ma i Giudei istigarono pie e ragguardevoli matrone e i principali della città, suscitarono una persecuzione contro Paolo e Barnaba, e li scacciarono dal loro territorio.
51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.	51 Essi però, scossa contro quelli la polvere dai loro piedi, andarono ad Iconio.
	52 I discepoli poi eran pieni di allegrezza e di Spirito Santo.
