Acts of the Apostles 13

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 Il y avait dans l'Eglise établie à Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs: Barnabé, Syméon appeléNiger, Lucius de Cyrène, Manaën, ami d'enfance d'Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'	2 Or un jour, tandis qu'ils célébraient le culte du Seigneur et jeûnaient, l'Esprit Saint dit: "Mettez-moidonc à part Barnabé et Saul en vue de l'oeuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés."
3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.	3 Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les laissèrent à leur mission.
4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.	4 Eux donc, envoyés en mission par le Saint Esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, d'où ils firent voile pourChypre.
5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.	5 Arrivés à Salamine, ils se mirent à annoncer la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Ilsavaient avec eux Jean comme auxiliaire.
6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.	6 Ayant traversé toute l'île jusqu'à Paphos, ils trouvèrent là un magicien, faux prophète juif, nomméBar-Jésus,
7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,	7 qui était de l'entourage du proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme avisé. Ce dernier fit appeler Barnabé etSaul, désireux d'entendre la parole de Dieu.
8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.	8 Mais Elymas le magicien - ainsi se traduit son nom - leur faisait opposition, cherchant à détourner leproconsul de la foi.
9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently	9 Alors Saul - appelé aussi Paul --, rempli de l'Esprit Saint, le fixa du regard
10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?	10 et lui dit: "Etre rempli de toutes les astuces et de toutes les scélératesses, fils du diable, ennemi detoute justice, ne cesseras-tu donc pas de rendre tortueuses les voies du Seigneur qui sont droites?
11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.	11 Voici à présent que la main du Seigneur est sur toi. Tu vas devenir aveugle, et pour un temps tu neverras plus le soleil." A l'instant même, obscurité et ténèbres s'abattirent sur lui, et il tournait de tous côtés,cherchant quelqu'un pour le conduire.
12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.	12 Alors, voyant ce qui s'était passé, le proconsul embrassa la foi, vivement frappé par la doctrine duSeigneur.
13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.	13 De Paphos, où ils s'embarquèrent, Paul et ses compagnons gagnèrent Pergé, en Pamphylie. MaisJean les quitta pour retourner à Jérusalem.
14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.	14 Quant à eux, poussant au-delà de Pergé, ils arrivèrent à Antioche de Pisidie. Le jour du sabbat, ilsentrèrent à la synagogue et s'assirent.
15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'	15 Après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue leur envoyèrent dire: "Frères,si vous avez quelque parole d'encouragement à dire au peuple, parlez."
16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!	16 Paul alors se leva, fit signe de la main et dit: "Hommes d'Israël, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez.
17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out	17 Le Dieu de ce peuple, le Dieu d'Israël élut nos pères et fit grandir ce peuple durant son exil en terred'Egypte. Puis, en déployant la force de son bras, il les en fit sortir
18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.	18 et, durant 40 ans environ, il les entoura de soins au désert.
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land	19 Ensuite, après avoir exterminé sept nations dans la terre de Canaan, il les mit en possession de leurpays:
20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.	20 450 ans environ. Après quoi, il leur donna des juges, jusqu'au prophète Samuel.
21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,	21 Par la suite, ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saül, fils de Cis, de la tribu de Benjamin: 40ans.
22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."	22 Après l'avoir écarté, Dieu suscita pour eux David comme roi. C'est à lui qu'il a rendu cetémoignage: J'ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, un homme selon mon coeur, qui accomplira toutes mes volontés.
23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,	23 C'est de sa descendance que, suivant sa promesse, Dieu a suscité pour Israël Jésus comme Sauveur.
24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.	24 Jean, le précurseur, avait préparé son arrivée en proclamant à l'adresse de tout le peuple d'Israël unbaptême de repentance.
25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."	25 Au moment de terminer sa course, Jean disait: Celui que vous croyez que je suis, je ne le suis pas;mais voici venir après moi celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la sandale.
26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.	26 "Frères, vous les enfants de la race d'Abraham et vous ici présents qui craignez Dieu, c'est à vousque ce message de salut a été envoyé.
27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f	27 En effet, les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs chefs ont accompli sans le savoir les paroles desprophètes qu'on lit chaque sabbat.
28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.	28 Sans trouver en lui aucun motif de mort, ils l'ont condamné et ont demandé à Pilate de le faire périr.
29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.	29 Et lorsqu'ils eurent accompli tout ce qui était écrit de lui, ils le descendirent du gibet et le mirent autombeau.
30 But God raised him from the dead,	30 Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité;
31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.	31 pendant de nombreux jours, il est apparu à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem,ceux-là mêmes qui sont maintenant ses témoins auprès du peuple.
32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.	32 "Et nous, nous vous annonçons la Bonne Nouvelle: la promesse faite à nos pères,
33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.	33 Dieu l'a accomplie en notre faveur à nous, leurs enfants: il a ressuscité Jésus. Ainsi est-il écrit danslesActes Psaumes: Tu es mon fils, moi-même aujourd'hui je t'ai engendré.
34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.	34 Que Dieu l'ait ressuscité des morts et qu'il ne doive plus retourner à la corruption, c'est bien ce qu'ilavait déclaré: Je vous donnerai les choses saintes de David, celles qui sont dignes de foi.
35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.	35 C'est pourquoi il dit ailleurs encore: Tu ne laisseras pas ton Saint voir la corruption.
36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.	36 Or David, après avoir en son temps servi les desseins de Dieu, est mort, a été réuni à ses pères et avu la corruption.
37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.	37 Celui que Dieu a ressuscité, lui, n'a pas vu la corruption.
38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify	38 "Sachez-le donc, frères, c'est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée. L'entièrejustification que vous n'avez pu obtenir par la Loi de Moïse,
39 is being offered to every believer.	39 c'est par lui que quiconque croit l'obtient.
40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.	40 "Prenez donc garde que n'arrive ce qui est dit dans les Prophètes:
41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'	41 Regardez, contempteurs, soyez dans la stupeur et disparaissez! Parce que de vos jours je vaisaccomplir une oeuvre que vous ne croiriez pas si on vous la racontait."
42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.	42 Et, à leur sortie, on les invitait à parler encore du même sujet le sabbat suivant.
43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.	43 Après que l'assemblée se fut séparée, nombre de Juifs et de prosélytes qui adoraient Dieu suivirentPaul et Barnabé, et ceux-ci, dans leurs entretiens, les engageaient à rester fidèles à la grâce de Dieu.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.	44 Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville s'assembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.	45 A la vue de cette foule, les Juifs furent remplis de jalousie, et ils répliquaient par des blasphèmesaux paroles de Paul.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.	46 S'enhardissant alors, Paul et Barnabé déclarèrent: "C'était à vous d'abord qu'il fallait annoncer laparole de Dieu. Puisque vous la repoussez et ne vous jugez pas dignes de la vie éternelle, eh bien! nous noustournons vers les païens.
47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'	47 Car ainsi nous l'a ordonné le Seigneur: Je t'ai établi lumière des nations, pour que tu portes le salutjusqu'aux extrémités de la terre."
48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.	48 Tout joyeux à ces mots, les païens se mirent à glorifier la parole du Seigneur, et tous ceux-làembrassèrent la foi, qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle.
49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.	49 Ainsi la parole du Seigneur se répandait dans toute la région.
50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.	50 Mais les Juifs montèrent la tête aux dames de condition qui adoraient Dieu ainsi qu'aux notables dela ville; ils suscitèrent de la sorte une persécution contre Paul et Barnabé et les chassèrent de leur territoire.
51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.	51 Ceux-ci, secouant contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds, se rendirent à Iconium.
	52 Quant aux disciples, ils étaient remplis de joie et de l'Esprit Saint.
