Acts of the Apostles 13

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 OR in Antiochia, nella chiesa che vi era, v’eran certi profeti, e dottori, cioè: Barnaba, e Simeone, chiamato Niger, e Lucio Cireneo, e Manaen, figliuol della nutrice di Erode il tetrarca, e Saulo.
2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'	2 E mentre facevano il pubblico servigio del Signore, e digiunavano, lo Spirito Santo disse: Appartatemi Barnaba e Saulo, per l’opera, alla quale io li ho chiamati.
3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.	3 Allora, dopo aver digiunato, e fatte orazioni, imposer loro le mani, e li accommiatarono
4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.	4 Essi adunque, mandati dallo Spirito Santo, scesero in Seleucia, e di là navigarono in Cipri.
5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.	5 E giunti in Salamina, annunziarono la parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe de’ Giudei; or aveano ancora Giovanni per ministro.
6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.	6 Poi, traversata l’isola fino in Pafo, trovarono quivi un certo mago, falso profeta Giudeo, che avea nome Bar-Gesù.
7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,	7 Il quale era col proconsolo Sergio Paolo, uomo prudente. Costui, chiamati a sè Barnaba e Saulo, richiese d’udir la parola di Dio.
8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.	8 Ma Elima, il mago perciocchè così s’interpreta il suo nome, resisteva loro, cercando di stornare il proconsolo dalla fede.
9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently	9 E Saulo, il quale ancora fu nominato Paolo, essendo ripieno dello Spirito Santo, ed avendo affissati in lui gli occhi, disse:
10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?	10 O pieno d’ogni frode, e d’ogni malizia, figliuol del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia! non resterai tu mai di pervertir le diritte vie del Signore?
11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.	11 Ora dunque, ecco, la mano del Signore sarà sopra te, e sarai cieco, senza vedere il sole, fino ad un certo tempo. E in quello stante caligine e tenebre caddero sopra lui; e andando attorno, cercava chi lo menasse per la mano.
12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.	12 Allora il proconsolo, veduto ciò ch’era stato fatto, credette, essendo sbigottito della dottrina del Signore.
13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.	13 OR Paolo, e i suoi compagni si partiron di Pafo, ed arrivaron per mare in Perga di Panfilia; e Giovanni, dipartitosi da loro, ritornò in Gerusalemme
14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.	14 Ed essi, partitisi da Perga, giunsero in Antiochia di Pisidia; ed entrati nella sinagoga nel giorno del sabato, si posero a sedere.
15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'	15 E dopo la lettura della legge e de’ profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono loro a dire: Fratelli, se voi avete alcun ragionamento d’esortazione a fare al popolo, ditelo.
16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!	16 Allora Paolo, rizzatosi, e fatto cenno con la mano, disse: Uomini Israeliti, e voi che temete Iddio, ascoltate.
17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out	17 L’Iddio di questo popolo Israele elesse i nostri padri, ed innalzò il popolo nella sua dimora nel paese di Egitto; e poi con braccio elevato lo trasse fuor di quello.
18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.	18 E per lo spazio d’intorno a quarant’anni, comportò i modi loro nel deserto.
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land	19 Poi, avendo distrutte sette nazioni nel paese di Canaan, distribuì loro a sorte il paese di quelle.
20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.	20 E poi appresso, per lo spazio d’intorno a quattrocencinquant’anni, diede loro de’ Giudici, fino al profeta Samuele.
21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,	21 E da quell’ora domandarono un re; e Iddio diede loro Saulle, figliuol di Chis, uomo della tribù di Beniamino; e così passarono quarant’anni.
22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."	22 Poi Iddio, rimossolo, suscitò loro Davide per re; al quale eziandio egli rendette testimonianza, e disse: Io ho trovato Davide, il figliuolo di Iesse, uomo secondo il mio cuore, il qual farà tutte le mie volontà.
23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,	23 Della progenie di esso ha Iddio, secondo la sua promessa, suscitato ad Israele il Salvatore Gesù;
24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.	24 avendo Giovanni, avanti la venuta di lui, predicato il battesimo del ravvedimento a tutto il popolo d’Israele.
25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."	25 E come Giovanni compieva il suo corso disse: Chi pensate voi che io sia? io non son desso; ma ecco, dietro a me viene uno, di cui io non son degno di sciogliere i calzari de’ piedi.
26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.	26 Uomini fratelli, figliuoli della progenie d’Abrahamo, e que’ d’infra voi che temete Iddio, a voi è stata mandata la parola di questa salute.
27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f	27 Perciocchè gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, e i lor rettori, non avendo riconosciuto questo Gesù, condannandolo, hanno adempiuti i detti de’ profeti, che si leggono ogni sabato.
28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.	28 E benchè non trovassero in lui alcuna cagion di morte, richiesero Pilato che fosse fatto morire.
29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.	29 E, dopo ch’ebbero compiute tutte le cose che sono scritte di lui, egli fu tratto giù dal legno, e fu posto in un sepolcro.
30 But God raised him from the dead,	30 Ma Iddio lo suscitò da’ morti.
31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.	31 Ed egli fu veduto per molti giorni da coloro ch’erano con lui saliti di Galilea in Gerusalemme, i quali sono i suoi testimoni presso il popolo.
32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.	32 E noi ancora vi evangelizziamo la promessa fatta a’ padri;
33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.	33 dicendovi, che Iddio l’ha adempiuta inverso noi, lor figliuoli, avendo risuscitato Gesù, siccome ancora è scritto nel salmo secondo: Tu sei il mio Figliuolo, oggi ti ho generato.
34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.	34 E perciocchè egli l’ha suscitato da’ morti, per non tornar più nella corruzione, egli ha detto così: Io vi darò le fedeli benignità promesse a Davide.
35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.	35 Perciò ancora egli dice in un altro luogo: Tu non permetterai che il tuo Santo vegga corruzione.
36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.	36 Poichè veramente Davide, avendo servito al consiglio di Dio nella sua età, si è addormentato, ed è stato aggiunto a’ suoi padri, ed ha veduta corruzione.
37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.	37 Ma colui che Iddio ha risuscitato non ha veduta corruzione.
38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify	38 Siavi adunque noto, fratelli, che per costui vi è annunziata remission de’ peccati.
39 is being offered to every believer.	39 E che di tutte le cose, onde per la legge di Mosè non siete potuti esser giustificati, chiunque crede è giustificato per mezzo di lui.
40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.	40 Guardatevi adunque, che non venga sopra voi ciò che è detto ne’ profeti:
41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'	41 Vedete, o sprezzatori, e maravigliatevi; e riguardate, e siate smarriti; perciocchè io fo un’opera a’ dì vostri, la quale voi non crederete, quando alcuno ve la racconterà
42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.	42 Ora, quando furono usciti dalla sinagoga de’ Giudei, i Gentili li pregarono che infra la settimana le medesime cose fosser loro proposte.
43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.	43 E dopo che la raunanza si fu dipartita, molti d’infra i Giudei, e i proseliti religiosi, seguitarono Paolo e Barnaba; i quali, ragionando loro, persuasero loro di perseverar nella grazia di Dio.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.	44 E il sabato seguente, quasi tutta la città si raunò per udir la parola di Dio.
45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.	45 Ma i Giudei, veggendo la moltitudine, furono ripieni d’invidia, e contradicevano alle cose dette da Paolo, contradicendo e bestemmiando.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.	46 E Paolo, e Barnaba, usando franchezza nel lor parlare, dissero: Egli era necessario che a voi prima si annunziasse, la parola di Dio; ma, poichè la ributtate, e non vi giudicate degni della vita eterna, ecco, noi ci volgiamo a’ Gentili.
47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'	47 Perciocchè così ci ha il Signore ingiunto, dicendo: Io ti ho posto per esser luce delle Genti, acciocchè tu sii in salute fino all’estremità della terra.
48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.	48 E i Gentili, udendo queste cose, si rallegrarono, e glorificavano la parola di Dio; e tutti coloro ch’erano ordinati a vita eterna credettero.
49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.	49 E la parola del Signore si spandeva per tutto il paese.
50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.	50 Ma i Giudei instigarono le donne religiose ed onorate, e i principali della città, e commossero persecuzione contro a Paolo, e contro a Barnaba, e li scacciarono da’ lor confini.
51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.	51 Ed essi, scossa la polvere de’ lor piedi contro a loro, se ne vennero in Iconio.
	52 E i discepoli eran ripieni di allegrezza, e di Spirito Santo
