Acts of the Apostles 13

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 C'erano nella chiesa stabilita ad Antiochia profeti e dottori: Bàrnaba, Simeone detto il Nero, Lucio di Cirene, Manaèn, educato insieme ad Erode il tetrarca, e Saulo.
2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'	2 Mentre essi prestavano servizio cultuale al Signore e facevano digiuni, lo Spirito Santo disse: "Mettetemi da parte Bàrnaba e Saulo per l'opera a cui li ho destinati".
3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.	3 Allora, dopo aver digiunato e pregato, imposero loro le mani e li lasciarono partire.
4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.	4 Essi, mandati in missione dallo Spirito Santo, scesero a Seleucia e di là si imbarcarono per Cipro.
5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.	5 Giunti a Salamina, vi annunciavano la parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe dei Giudei. Avevano anche Giovanni come aiutante.
6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.	6 Attraversata tutta l'isola fino a Pafo, trovarono un mago, uno pseudoprofeta giudeo, di nome Bar-Iesus,
7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,	7 che stava col proconsole Sergio Paolo, uomo intelligente. Costui fece chiamare Bàrnaba e Saulo, perché desiderava ascoltare la parola di Dio.
8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.	8 Ma Elimas, il mago (questo infatti è il significato del suo nome), si opponeva loro cercando di distogliere il proconsole dalla fede.
9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently	9 Allora Saulo, detto anche Paolo, pieno di Spirito Santo, fissandolo in volto disse:
10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?	10 "Uomo ricolmo di ogni inganno e di ogni malizia, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia, non la finirai di distorcere le vie rette del Signore?
11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.	11 Ed ora, ecco, la mano del Signore è su di te: resterai cieco e per un certo tempo non potrai vedere la luce del sole". In quell'istante buio e oscurità lo avvolsero ed egli andava intorno cercando chi lo conducesse per mano.
12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.	12 Allora il proconsole, vedendo ciò che era accaduto, abbracciò la fede, colpito dalla dottrina del Signore.
13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.	13 Paolo e i suoi compagni s'imbarcarono da Pafo e giunsero a Perge di Panfilia. Giovanni si separò da loro e ritornò a Gerusalemme.
14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.	14 Essi, partendo da Perge, con una traversata giunsero ad Antiochia di Pisidia. Il giorno di sabato entrarono nella sinagoga e si posero a sedere.
15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'	15 Dopo la lettura della legge e dei profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono a dir loro: "Fratelli, se avete qualche parola d'esortazione per il popolo, ditela".
16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!	16 Allora Paolo, alzatosi e fatto segno con la mano, disse: "Uomini d'Israele e voi che temete Dio, ascoltate.
17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out	17 Il Dio di questo popolo d'Israele scelse i padri nostri ed esaltò il popolo durante la sua dimora in Egitto, e con opere prodigiose li condusse fuori da quella terra.
18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.	18 Per circa quarant'anni li assisté nel deserto.
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land	19 Poi distrusse sette popoli nella terra di Canaan e diede ad essi in eredità la loro terra:
20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.	20 tutto ciò nello spazio di circa quattrocentocinquant'anni. Dopo diede loro dei giudici fino al profeta Samuele.
21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,	21 Poi chiesero un re e Dio diede loro Saul figlio di Cis, della tribù di Beniamino, per quarant'anni.
22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."	22 Dopo averlo deposto, suscitò loro un altro re, Davide, e gli rese questa testimonianza: Ho trovato Davide, figlio di Iesse, secondo il mio cuore, che eseguirà tutti i miei voleri.
23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,	23 Dalla sua discendenza Dio, secondo la promessa, trasse un salvatore per Israele, Gesù.
24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.	24 Giovanni preparò la sua venuta predicando un battesimo di penitenza a tutto il popolo d'Israele.
25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."	25 E quando Giovanni stava per compiere la sua missione, diceva: "Io non sono ciò che voi pensate che io sia; ma ecco, viene dopo di me uno a cui io non sono degno di slegare i sandali".
26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.	26 Fratelli, figli della stirpe di Abramo, e voi che temete Dio, è a noi che è stato mandato questo messaggio di salvezza.
27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f	27 Infatti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e i loro capi, rifiutando di riconoscere lui e non comprendendo gli oracoli dei profeti che si leggono ogni sabato, li hanno adempiuti, pronunciando la sua condanna.
28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.	28 E pur non avendo trovato nessun motivo di condanna a morte, chiesero a Pilato che fosse ucciso.
29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.	29 Quando ebbero compiuto tutto ciò che era stato scritto intorno a lui, lo deposero dal patibolo e lo misero in un sepolcro.
30 But God raised him from the dead,	30 Ma Dio l'ha risuscitato dai morti
31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.	31 ed è apparso durante molti giorni a quelli che erano saliti con lui dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme, i quali ora sono suoi testimoni davanti al popolo.
32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.	32 E noi vi proclamiamo la buona novella: la promessa fatta ai padri
33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.	33 Dio l'ha adempiuta per noi, loro figli, facendo risorgere Gesù, come è scritto nel salmo secondo: Tu sei mio figlio, io oggi ti ho generato.
34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.	34 Che poi lo abbia fatto risuscitare dai morti così che non ritorni alla corruzione, lo ha detto affermando: Darò a voi le cose sante di Davide, quelle permanenti.
35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.	35 Perciò dice ancora in un altro luogo: Non permetterai che il tuo santo veda la corruzione.
36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.	36 Davide infatti, dopo aver adempiuto nella sua generazione la volontà di Dio, si addormentò, fu sepolto con i suoi padri e vide la corruzione.
37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.	37 Ma colui che Dio ha risuscitato non ha visto la corruzione.
38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify	38 Vi sia dunque noto, o fratelli, che per mezzo suo a voi è annunciato il perdono dei peccati. E l'intera giustificazione, che non avete potuto ottenere mediante la legge di Mosè,
39 is being offered to every believer.	39 per mezzo suo la ottiene chiunque crede.
40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.	40 Guardate perciò che non si avveri per voi la parola dei profeti:
41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'	41 Guardate, o spergiuri, stupitevi e allibite, perché io farò un'opera nei vostri giorni, un'opera che non la credereste se ve la raccontassero".
42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.	42 All'uscita li pregavano di parlare loro di queste cose anche nel sabato seguente.
43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.	43 Scioltasi l'adunanza, molti Giudei e proseliti adoratori di Dio accompagnarono Paolo e Bàrnaba, i quali, continuando a parlare loro, li persuasero a perseverare nella grazia di Dio.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.	44 Il sabato seguente quasi tutta la città si radunò per ascoltare la parola di Dio.
45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.	45 I Giudei, vedendo quella folla, furono presi da gelosia e contraddicevano alle cose dette da Paolo, bestemmiando.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.	46 Allora Paolo e Bàrnaba, pieni di ardire, dissero: "Era necessario annunciare a voi prima di tutti la parola di Dio. Ma poiché la respingete e non vi ritenete degni della vita eterna, ecco, ci rivolgiamo ai pagani!
47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'	47 Così infatti ci ha ordinato il Signore: Ti ho posto a luce delle genti perché tu porti la salvezza fino all'estremità della terra".
48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.	48 I pagani che ascoltavano ciò si rallegravano e glorificavano la parola di Dio, e quanti erano preordinati alla vita eterna abbracciarono la fede.
49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.	49 La parola del Signore si diffondeva per tutta la regione.
50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.	50 Ma i Giudei istigarono le donne devote della nobiltà e gli uomini di primo piano della città, suscitarono una persecuzione contro Paolo e Barnaba e li cacciarono dai loro confini.
51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.	51 Essi allora, scuotendo la polvere dai loro piedi contro di essi, se ne vennero a Iconio,
	52 mentre i discepoli erano pieni di letizia e di Spirito Santo.
