1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 ואנשים נביאים ומלמדים היו באנטיוכיא בקהלה אשר בה בר נבא ושמעון הנקרא ניגר ולוקיוס הקוריני ומנחם אשר גדל עם הורדוס שר הרבע ושאול
2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'	2 ויהי בשרתם את יהוה ובצומם ויאמר רוח הקדש הבדילו לי את בר נבא ואת שאול למלאכה אשר קראתים לה
3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.	3 ויצומו ויתפללו ויסמכו את ידיהם עליהם וישלחום
4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.	4 והמה המשלחים על ידי רוח הקדש ירדו אל סלוקיא ומשם באו באניה אל קפרוס
5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.	5 ויבאו אל עיר סלמיס ויגידו את דבר האלהים בבתי הכנסיות אשר ליהודים ויהי להם גם יוחנן למשרת
6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.	6 ויעברו בכל האי עד פפוס וימצאו איש מגוש אחד נביא שקר איש יהודי ושמו בר ישוע
7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,	7 אשר היה עם סרגיוס פולוס שר המדינה איש נבון והוא קרא אליו את בר נבא ואת שאול ויתאו לשמע את דבר האלהים
8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.	8 ויעמד לנגדם אלימא המגוש כי זה תרגום שמו ויבקש להטות את השר מן האמונה
9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently	9 ושאול הנקרא גם פולוס מלא רוח הקדש ויסתכל בו
10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?	10 ויאמר אתה המלא כל מרמה וכל עולה בן בליעל ושונא כל צדק הלא תחדל לסלף את דרכי יהוה הישרים
11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.	11 ועתה הנה יד יהוה בך והיית עור ולא תראה את השמש עד עת מועד ותפל עליו פתאם אפלה וחשכה ויפן הנה והנה ויבקש איש להוליכו בידו
12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.	12 והשר כאשר ראה את המעשה האמין וישתומם על תורת האדון
13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.	13 ויצאו פולוס והאנשים אשר אתו מפפוס וירדו באניה ויבאו אל פרגי אשר בפמפוליא ויעזב אתם יוחנן וישב ירושלים
14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.	14 והמה נסעו מפרגי ויבאו אל אנטיוכיא אשר בפיסדיא ויבאו אל בית הכנסת ביום השבת וישבו
15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'	15 ויהי אחר קריאת התורה והנביאים וישלחו אליהם ראשי הכנסת לאמר אנשים אחים אם יש לכם דבר מוסר לעם דברו
16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!	16 ויקם פולוס וינף ידו ויאמר אנשי ישראל ויראי אלהים שמעו
17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out	17 אלהי העם הזה אלהי ישראל בחר באבותינו וירומם את העם בהיותם גרים בארץ מצרים ובזרוע רמה הוציאם משם
18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.	18 וישא אתם ויכלכלם במדבר כארבעים שנה
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land	19 וישמד שבעה גוים בארץ כנען ויחלק את ארצם להם לנחלה
20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.	20 ואחרי כן נתן להם שפטים כארבע מאות וחמשים שנה עד ימי שמואל הנביא
21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,	21 וישאלו מלך ויתן להם אלהים את שאול בן קיש איש משבט בנימן ארבעים שנה
22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."	22 וכהסירו אותו ויקם את דוד למלך עליהם אשר גם העיד עליו לאמר מצאתי דוד את בן ישי איש כלבבי והוא יעשה את כל חפצי
23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,	23 וזה הוא אשר מזרעו הקים האלהים כפי ההבטחה גואל לישראל את ישוע
24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.	24 אשר לפני בואו קדם יוחנן לקרא את טבילת התשובה אל כל עם ישראל
25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."	25 ויהי ככלות יוחנן את מרוצתו ויאמר למי תחשבוני לא אני הוא כי הנה הוא בא אחרי ואני נקלתי מהתיר את נעלי רגליו
26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.	26 אנשים אחים בני משפחת אברהם ויראי אלהים אשר בקרבכם לכם שלוח דבר הישועה הזאת
27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f	27 כי ישבי ירושלים וראשיהם יען אשר לא הכירהו מלאו במשפטם אשר שפטהו את דברי הנביאים הנקראים בכל שבת
28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.	28 ואף כי לא מצאו בו משפט מות שאלו מאת פילטוס להמיתו
29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.	29 וכאשר השלימו את כל הדברים הכתובים עליו הורידו אותו מן העץ ויניחהו בקבר
30 But God raised him from the dead,	30 אבל האלהים הקימו מן המתים
31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.	31 וירא ימים רבים אל העלים אתו מן הגליל ירושלימה והמה עתה עדיו אל העם
32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.	32 ואנחנו מבשרים אתכם את בשורת ההבטחה אשר היתה לאבותינו כי אתה מלא האלהים לבנינו בהקימו את ישוע
33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.	33 ככתוב במזמור השני בני אתה היום ילדתיך
34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.	34 ועל אשר הקים אתו מן המתים לבלתי שוב עוד לשחת כה אמר אתן לכם חסדי דוד הנאמנים
35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.	35 על כן הוא אמר גם במקום אחר לא תתן חסידך לראות שחת
36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.	36 כי דוד גוע אחרי שרתו בדורו לעצת האלהים ויאסף אל אבותיו וירא את השחת
37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.	37 ואשר האלהים הקים אותו הוא לא ראה השחת
38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify	38 לכן אנשים אחים יודע לכם כי על ידי זה הגד לכם סליחת החטאים
39 is being offered to every believer.	39 ובכל אשר לא יכלתם להצטדק בתורת משה כל המאמין יצדק על ידו
40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.	40 לכן השמרו לכם פן יבוא עליכם הנאמר בנביאים
41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'	41 ראו בגדים והתמהו ושמו כי פעל פעל אני בימיכם פעל אשר לא תאמינו כי יספר לכם
42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.	42 ובצאת היהודים מבית הכנסת בקשו מהם הגוים לדבר אליהם את הדברים האלה בשבת הבאה
43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.	43 ורבים מן היהודים ומגרי הצדק הלכו אחרי פולוס ובר נבא בהפרד הקהל והמה דברו על לבם ויזהירום לעמד בחסד האלהים
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.	44 ובשבת השנית נקהלה כמעט כל העיר לשמע את דבר יהוה
45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.	45 ויהי כראות היהודים את המון העם וימלאו קנאה ויכחישו את דברי פולוס הכחש וגדף
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.	46 אז הגידו פולוס ובר נבא על פניהם לאמר בדין היה להשמיע אתכם בראשונה את דבר האלהים ועתה אחרי אשר מאסתם אותו ואינכם זכים בעיניכם לחיי העולם לכן הננו פנים אל הגוים
47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'	47 כי כן צוה עלינו האדון נתתיך לאור גוים להיות ישועתי עד קצה הארץ
48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.	48 וישמחו הגוים כשמעם ויהללו את דבר יהוה ויאמינו כל אשר היו מוכנים לחיי עולם
49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.	49 ויפרץ דבר יהוה בכל המקום
50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.	50 אך היהודים הסיתו את הנשים החסידות והחשובות ואת אצילי העיר ויעוררו רדיפה על פולוס ובר נבא ויגרשום מגבולם
51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.	51 והמה נערו עליהם את העפר מעל רגליהם וילכו לאיקניון
	52 והתלמידים מלאו שמחה ורוח הקדש
