Acts of the Apostles 13

1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 C’erano nella Chiesa di Antiòchia profeti e maestri: Bàrnaba, Simeone detto Niger, Lucio di Cirene, Manaèn, compagno d’infanzia di Erode il tetrarca, e Saulo.
2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'	2 Mentre essi stavano celebrando il culto del Signore e digiunando, lo Spirito Santo disse: «Riservate per me Bàrnaba e Saulo per l’opera alla quale li ho chiamati».
3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.	3 Allora, dopo aver digiunato e pregato, imposero loro le mani e li congedarono.
4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.	4 Essi dunque, inviati dallo Spirito Santo, scesero a Selèucia e di qui salparono per Cipro.
5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.	5 Giunti a Salamina, cominciarono ad annunciare la parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe dei Giudei, avendo con sé anche Giovanni come aiutante.
6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.	6 Attraversata tutta l’isola fino a Pafo, vi trovarono un tale, mago e falso profeta giudeo, di nome Bar-Iesus,
7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,	7 al seguito del proconsole Sergio Paolo, uomo saggio, che aveva fatto chiamare a sé Bàrnaba e Saulo e desiderava ascoltare la parola di Dio.
8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.	8 Ma Elimas, il mago – ciò infatti significa il suo nome –, faceva loro opposizione, cercando di distogliere il proconsole dalla fede.
9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently	9 Allora Saulo, detto anche Paolo, colmato di Spirito Santo, fissò gli occhi su di lui
10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?	10 e disse: «Uomo pieno di ogni frode e di ogni malizia, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia, quando cesserai di sconvolgere le vie diritte del Signore?
11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.	11 Ed ecco, dunque, la mano del Signore è sopra di te: sarai cieco e per un certo tempo non vedrai il sole». Di colpo piombarono su di lui oscurità e tenebra, e brancolando cercava chi lo guidasse per mano.
12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.	12 Quando vide l’accaduto, il proconsole credette, colpito dall’insegnamento del Signore.
13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.	13 Salpati da Pafo, Paolo e i suoi compagni giunsero a Perge, in Panfìlia. Ma Giovanni si separò da loro e ritornò a Gerusalemme.
14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.	14 Essi invece, proseguendo da Perge, arrivarono ad Antiòchia in Pisìdia e, entrati nella sinagoga nel giorno di sabato, sedettero.
15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'	15 Dopo la lettura della Legge e dei Profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono a dire loro: «Fratelli, se avete qualche parola di esortazione per il popolo, parlate!».
16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!	16 Si alzò Paolo e, fatto cenno con la mano, disse: «Uomini d’Israele e voi timorati di Dio, ascoltate.
17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out	17 Il Dio di questo popolo d’Israele scelse i nostri padri e rialzò il popolo durante il suo esilio in terra d’Egitto, e con braccio potente li condusse via di là.
18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.	18 Quindi sopportò la loro condotta per circa quarant’anni nel deserto,
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land	19 distrusse sette nazioni nella terra di Canaan e concesse loro in eredità quella terra
20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.	20 per circa quattrocentocinquanta anni. Dopo questo diede loro dei giudici, fino al profeta Samuele.
21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,	21 Poi essi chiesero un re e Dio diede loro Saul, figlio di Chis, della tribù di Beniamino, per quarant’anni.
22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."	22 E, dopo averlo rimosso, suscitò per loro Davide come re, al quale rese questa testimonianza: “Ho trovato Davide, figlio di Iesse, uomo secondo il mio cuore; egli adempirà tutti i miei voleri”.
23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,	23 Dalla discendenza di lui, secondo la promessa, Dio inviò, come salvatore per Israele, Gesù.
24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.	24 Giovanni aveva preparato la sua venuta predicando un battesimo di conversione a tutto il popolo d’Israele.
25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."	25 Diceva Giovanni sul finire della sua missione: “Io non sono quello che voi pensate! Ma ecco, viene dopo di me uno, al quale io non sono degno di slacciare i sandali”.
26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.	26 Fratelli, figli della stirpe di Abramo, e quanti fra voi siete timorati di Dio, a noi è stata mandata la parola di questa salvezza.
27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f	27 Gli abitanti di Gerusalemme infatti e i loro capi non l’hanno riconosciuto e, condannandolo, hanno portato a compimento le voci dei Profeti che si leggono ogni sabato;
28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.	28 pur non avendo trovato alcun motivo di condanna a morte, chiesero a Pilato che egli fosse ucciso.
29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.	29 Dopo aver adempiuto tutto quanto era stato scritto di lui, lo deposero dalla croce e lo misero nel sepolcro.
30 But God raised him from the dead,	30 Ma Dio lo ha risuscitato dai morti
31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.	31 ed egli è apparso per molti giorni a quelli che erano saliti con lui dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme, e questi ora sono testimoni di lui davanti al popolo.
32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.	32 E noi vi annunciamo che la promessa fatta ai padri si è realizzata,
33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.	33 perché Dio l’ha compiuta per noi, loro figli, risuscitando Gesù, come anche sta scritto nel salmo secondo: Mio figlio sei tu, io oggi ti ho generato.
34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.	34 Sì, Dio lo ha risuscitato dai morti, in modo che non abbia mai più a tornare alla corruzione, come ha dichiarato: Darò a voi le cose sante di Davide, quelle degne di fede.
35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.	35 Per questo in un altro testo dice anche: Non permetterai che il tuo Santo subisca la corruzione.
36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.	36 Ora Davide, dopo aver eseguito il volere di Dio nel suo tempo, morì e fu unito ai suoi padri e subì la corruzione.
37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.	37 Ma colui che Dio ha risuscitato, non ha subìto la corruzione.
38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify	38 Vi sia dunque noto, fratelli, che per opera sua viene annunciato a voi il perdono dei peccati. Da tutte le cose da cui mediante la legge di Mosè non vi fu possibile essere giustificati,
39 is being offered to every believer.	39 per mezzo di lui chiunque crede è giustificato.
40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.	40 Badate dunque che non avvenga ciò che è detto nei Profeti:
41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'	41 Guardate, beffardi, stupite e nascondetevi, perché un’opera io compio ai vostri giorni, un’opera che voi non credereste se vi fosse raccontata!».
42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.	42 Mentre uscivano, li esortavano ad annunciare loro queste cose il sabato seguente.
43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.	43 Sciolta l’assemblea, molti Giudei e prosèliti credenti in Dio seguirono Paolo e Bàrnaba ed essi, intrattenendosi con loro, cercavano di persuaderli a perseverare nella grazia di Dio.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.	44 Il sabato seguente quasi tutta la città si radunò per ascoltare la parola del Signore.
45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.	45 Quando videro quella moltitudine, i Giudei furono ricolmi di gelosia e con parole ingiuriose contrastavano le affermazioni di Paolo.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.	46 Allora Paolo e Bàrnaba con franchezza dichiararono: «Era necessario che fosse proclamata prima di tutto a voi la parola di Dio, ma poiché la respingete e non vi giudicate degni della vita eterna, ecco: noi ci rivolgiamo ai pagani.
47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'	47 Così infatti ci ha ordinato il Signore: Io ti ho posto per essere luce delle genti, perché tu porti la salvezza sino all’estremità della terra».
48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.	48 Nell’udire ciò, i pagani si rallegravano e glorificavano la parola del Signore, e tutti quelli che erano destinati alla vita eterna credettero.
49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.	49 La parola del Signore si diffondeva per tutta la regione.
50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.	50 Ma i Giudei sobillarono le pie donne della nobiltà e i notabili della città e suscitarono una persecuzione contro Paolo e Bàrnaba e li cacciarono dal loro territorio.
51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.	51 Allora essi, scossa contro di loro la polvere dei piedi, andarono a Icònio.
	52 I discepoli erano pieni di gioia e di Spirito Santo.
