John 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 As he went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.	1 E passando vide un uomo cieco dalla nascita.
2 His disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should have been bornblind?'	2 Ed i suoi discepoli gli domandarono: Maestro, chi ha peccato, lui o i suoi genitori, per nascere cieco?
3 'Neither he nor his parents sinned,' Jesus answered, 'he was born blind so that the works of God mightbe revealed in him.	3 Rispose Gesù: Nè lui nè i suoi genitori han peccato, ma è così perchè in lui si manifestino lo opero di Dio.
4 'As long as day lasts we must carry out the work of the one who sent me; the night wil soon be herewhen no one can work.	4 Bisogna che io compia l'opere di chi mi ha mandato finché è giorno; poi vien la notte, quando nessuno può operare.
5 As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world.'	5 Finché son nel mondo son la luce del mondo.
6 Having said this, he spat on the ground, made a paste with the spittle, put this over the eyes of the blindman,	6 Ciò detto, sputò in terra, fe' colla saliva del fango, ne spalmò gli occhi del cieco, dicendogli:
7 and said to him, 'Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam' (the name means 'one who has been sent'). So hewent off and washed and came back able to see.	7 Va', lavati nella vasca di Siloe, che significa Messo. Andò colui a lavarsi e tornò che ci vedeva.
8 His neighbours and the people who used to see him before (for he was a beggar) said, 'Isn't this theman who used to sit and beg?'	8 I vicini e quelli che l'avevan veduto prima a mendicare, dicevano: Non è quello che sedeva a chiedere l'elemosina? Altri dicevano: E' lui.
9 Some said, 'Yes, it is the same one.' Others said, 'No, but he looks just like him.' The man himself said,'Yes, I am the one.'	9 Altri: No, ma uno che gli somiglia. Ma egli diceva: Sono io: proprio quello.
10 So they said to him, 'Then how is it that your eyes were opened?'	10 Gli dicevano: Come mai ti sono aperti gli occhi?
11 He answered, 'The man cal ed Jesus made a paste, daubed my eyes with it and said to me, "Go offand wash at Siloam"; so I went, and when I washed I gained my sight.'	11 Rispose: Quell'uomo che si chiama Gesù, fece del fango, me ne spalmò gli occhi e mi disse: Va' alla vasca di Siloe e lavati. Ci sono andato; mi sono lavato e ci vedo.
12 They asked, 'Where is he?' He answered, 'I don't know.'	12 Gli domandarono: Dov'è costui? Rispose: Non lo so.
13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.	13 Menarono colui che era stato cieco dai Farisei.
14 It had been a Sabbath day when Jesus made the paste and opened the man's eyes,	14 Ed era di sabato, quando Gesù fece quel fango e gli aprì gli occhi.
15 so when the Pharisees asked him how he had gained his sight, he said, 'He put a paste on my eyes,and I washed, and I can see.'	15 Allora i Farisei lo interrogarono di nuovo in qual modo avesse ottenuta la vista. Ed egli rispose loro: Mi ha posto del fango sugli occhi, mi sono lavato e ci vedo.
16 Then some of the Pharisees said, 'That man cannot be from God: he does not keep the Sabbath.'Others said, 'How can a sinner produce signs like this?' And there was division among them.	16 Però alcuni dei Farisei dicevano: Non è da Dio quest'uomo, che non osserva il sabato. Altri dicevano: Come può un uomo peccatore far tali prodigi? E tra loro v'era disaccordo.
17 So they spoke to the blind man again, 'What have you to say about him yourself, now that he hasopened your eyes?' The man answered, 'He is a prophet.'	17 Dicon pertanto un'altra volta al cieco: E tu che dici di colui che t'ha aperto gli occhi? Egli rispose: E' un profeta.
18 However, the Jews would not believe that the man had been blind without first sending for the parentsof the man who had gained his sight and	18 E i Giudei però non credettero che prima fosse stato cieco e che avesse riacquistato la vista, fino a tanto che non ebbero chiamati i genitori di quello che ora ci vedeva,
19 asking them, 'Is this man really the son of yours who you say was born blind? If so, how is it that he isnow able to see?'	19 e li interrogarono dicendo: E' questo il vostro figlio che voi dite nato cieco? Come mai ora ci vede?
20 His parents answered, 'We know he is our son and we know he was born blind,	20 Risposero i genitori di lui: Sappiamo che questo è nostro figlio e che è nato cieco;
21 but how he can see, we don't know, nor who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is old enough: let himspeak for himself.'	21 come poi ora ci veda non lo sappiamo, e neppure sappiamo chi gli abbia aperto gli occhi; domandatene a lui; ha i suoi anni: parli lui di quello che lo riguarda.
22 His parents spoke like this out of fear of the Jews, who had already agreed to ban from the synagogueanyone who should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ.	22 Così dissero i suoi genitori, perchè avevano paura dei Giudei, i quali avevan già stabilito che se uno riconoscesse Gesù come Cristo, fosse espulso dalla sinagoga.
23 This was why his parents said, 'He is old enough; ask him.'	23 Per questo i suoi genitori dissero: Ha i suoi anni: domandatene a lui.
24 So the Jews sent for the man again and said to him, 'Give glory to God! We are satisfied that this manis a sinner.'	24 Chiamaron quindi di bel nuovo l'uomo che era stato cieco e gli dissero: Da' gloria a Dio! Noi sappiamo che quest'uomo è peccatore.
25 The man answered, 'Whether he is a sinner I don't know; al I know is that I was blind and now I cansee.'	25 Egli disse loro: Se sia peccatore non lo so; ma so questo solo: che ero cieco e ora ci vedo.
26 They said to him, 'What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?'	26 Gli dissero ancora: E che ti fece? Come t'aprì gli occhi?
27 He replied, 'I have told you once and you wouldn't listen. Why do you want to hear it all again? Do youwant to become his disciples yourselves?'	27 Ve l'ho pur detto, rispose loro, e l'avete sentito; che volete saper di più? Volete forse anche voi farvi suoi discepoli?
28 At this they hurled abuse at him, 'It is you who are his disciple, we are disciples of Moses:	28 Ma essi l'ingiuriarono e gli dissero: Sii tu suo discepolo; quanto a noi, siamo discepoli di Mosè.
29 we know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this man, we don't know where he comes from.'	29 Noi sappiamo che a Mosè parlò Dio; ma costui non sappiamo di dove sia.
30 The man replied, 'That is just what is so amazing! You don't know where he comes from and he hasopened my eyes!	30 Quell'uomo rispose loro: Qui appunto sta la maraviglia, che voi non sapete di dove sia e intanto mi ha aperto gli occhi.
31 We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but God does listen to people who are devout and do hiswil .	31 Or sappiamo che Dio non ascolta i peccatori; ma se uno ha il timor di Dio e fa la sua volontà, egli l'esaudisce.
32 Ever since the world began it is unheard of for anyone to open the eyes of someone born blind;	32 Da che mondo è mondo non s'è mai sentito dire che uno abbia aperti gli occhi ad un cieco nato.
33 if this man were not from God, he wouldn't have been able to do anything.'	33 E se questo non fosse da Dio non avrebbe potuto far nulla.
34 They retorted, 'Are you trying to teach us, and you a sinner through and through ever since you wereborn!' And they ejected him.	34 Gli risposero dicendo: Sei nato nel peccato da capo a piedi e ci vuoi fare da maestro? E lo cacciarono fuori.
35 Jesus heard they had ejected him, and when he found him he said to him, 'Do you believe in the Sonof man?'	35 Sentì Gesù che l'avevan cacciato fuori, e, incontratolo, gli disse: Credi tu nel Figlio di Dio?
36 'Sir,' the man replied, 'tel me who he is so that I may believe in him.'	36 Quello rispose: E chi è, Signore, affinchè creda in lui?
37 Jesus said, 'You have seen him; he is speaking to you.'	37 Gli disse Gesù: L'hai veduto, e chi parla con te è quello.
38 The man said, 'Lord, I believe,' and worshipped him.	38 Allora egli esclamò: Signore, io credo. E, prostratosi, l'adorò.
39 Jesus said: It is for judgement that I have come into this world, so that those without sight may see andthose with sight may become blind.	39 E Gesù disse: Sono venuto in questo mondo a fare il giudizio: affinchè quelli che non vedono veggano e quei che veggono diventino ciechi.
40 Hearing this, some Pharisees who were present said to him, 'So we are blind, are we?'	40 E uditolo alcuni Farisei che eran con lui, gli dissero: Siam forse ciechi anche noi?
41 Jesus replied: If you were blind, you would not be guilty, but since you say, 'We can see,' your guiltremains.	41 Gesù rispose: Se foste ciechi non avreste colpa, invece voi dite: Noi vediamo. Resta adunque il vostro peccato.
