John 9

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 As he went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.	1 Ora, mentre passava, vide un uomo cieco dalla nascita.
2 His disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should have been bornblind?'	2 I suoi discepoli gli domandarono: "Rabbì, chi ha peccato, lui o i suoi genitori, perché egli nascesse cieco?".
3 'Neither he nor his parents sinned,' Jesus answered, 'he was born blind so that the works of God mightbe revealed in him.	3 Rispose Gesù: "Né lui ha peccato né i suoi genitori, ma (è nato cieco) perché si manifestassero in lui le opere di Dio.
4 'As long as day lasts we must carry out the work of the one who sent me; the night wil soon be herewhen no one can work.	4 Dobbiamo operare le opere di Colui che mi ha mandato finché è giorno. Viene la notte, quando nessuno può più operare.
5 As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world.'	5 Finché che sono nel mondo, sono luce del mondo".
6 Having said this, he spat on the ground, made a paste with the spittle, put this over the eyes of the blindman,	6 Detto questo, sputò per terra, fece del fango con la saliva e spalmò il fango sugli occhi di lui.
7 and said to him, 'Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam' (the name means 'one who has been sent'). So hewent off and washed and came back able to see.	7 Poi gli disse: "Va' e làvati alla piscina di Siloe" (che significa "inviato"). Egli andò, si lavò e ritornò che vedeva.
8 His neighbours and the people who used to see him before (for he was a beggar) said, 'Isn't this theman who used to sit and beg?'	8 Ora, i vicini e quelli che l'avevano visto prima da mendicante dicevano: "Non è lui quello che stava seduto a mendicare?".
9 Some said, 'Yes, it is the same one.' Others said, 'No, but he looks just like him.' The man himself said,'Yes, I am the one.'	9 Altri dicevano: "Ma no. E' un altro che gli somiglia". Egli però diceva: "Sono proprio io".
10 So they said to him, 'Then how is it that your eyes were opened?'	10 Gli dicevano dunque: "Come mai ti sono stati aperti gli occhi?".
11 He answered, 'The man cal ed Jesus made a paste, daubed my eyes with it and said to me, "Go offand wash at Siloam"; so I went, and when I washed I gained my sight.'	11 Egli rispose: "Un uomo che si chiama Gesù ha fatto del fango, mi ha spalmato gli occhi e mi ha detto: "Va' a Siloe e làvati". Andato e lavatomi, ho cominciato a vedere".
12 They asked, 'Where is he?' He answered, 'I don't know.'	12 Gli dissero: "Dov'è lui?". Dice: "Non lo so".
13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.	13 Conducono dai farisei quello che prima era cieco.
14 It had been a Sabbath day when Jesus made the paste and opened the man's eyes,	14 Era sabato il giorno in cui Gesù fece il fango e gli aprì gli occhi.
15 so when the Pharisees asked him how he had gained his sight, he said, 'He put a paste on my eyes,and I washed, and I can see.'	15 A loro volta anche i farisei lo interrogavano come aveva riacquistato la vista. Disse loro: "Mi ha messo del fango sugli occhi, mi sono lavato, e vedo".
16 Then some of the Pharisees said, 'That man cannot be from God: he does not keep the Sabbath.'Others said, 'How can a sinner produce signs like this?' And there was division among them.	16 Dicevano allora alcuni dei farisei: "Quest'uomo non è da Dio, perché non osserva il sabato". Altri però dicevano: "Come può uno, che è peccatore, compiere tali segni?". E c'era divisione fra di loro.
17 So they spoke to the blind man again, 'What have you to say about him yourself, now that he hasopened your eyes?' The man answered, 'He is a prophet.'	17 Dicono perciò di nuovo al cieco: "Tu che dici di lui per il fatto che ti ha aperto gli occhi?". "E' un profeta", rispose.
18 However, the Jews would not believe that the man had been blind without first sending for the parentsof the man who had gained his sight and	18 Non credettero però i Giudei che egli fosse stato cieco e che avesse riacquistato la vista, finché non chiamarono i genitori di colui che aveva riacquistato la vista
19 asking them, 'Is this man really the son of yours who you say was born blind? If so, how is it that he isnow able to see?'	19 e li interrogarono: "Costui è proprio vostro figlio, quello che voi dite essere nato cieco? Come mai ora vede?".
20 His parents answered, 'We know he is our son and we know he was born blind,	20 Risposero i suoi genitori: "Noi sappiamo che questo è nostro figlio e che è nato cieco.
21 but how he can see, we don't know, nor who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is old enough: let himspeak for himself.'	21 Come poi ora veda non lo sappiamo né sappiamo chi gli ha aperto gli occhi. Interrogate lui! Ha la sua età; egli stesso parlerà di sé".
22 His parents spoke like this out of fear of the Jews, who had already agreed to ban from the synagogueanyone who should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ.	22 I suoi genitori parlarono così perché temevano i Giudei. I Giudei infatti si erano già accordati che se qualcuno lo avesse riconosciuto come Cristo, sarebbe stato escluso dalla sinagoga.
23 This was why his parents said, 'He is old enough; ask him.'	23 Per questo i suoi genitori dissero: "Ha la sua età. Chiedetelo a lui".
24 So the Jews sent for the man again and said to him, 'Give glory to God! We are satisfied that this manis a sinner.'	24 Chiamarono dunque, di nuovo, l'uomo che era stato cieco e gli dissero: "Da' gloria a Dio. Noi sappiamo che quest'uomo è un peccatore".
25 The man answered, 'Whether he is a sinner I don't know; al I know is that I was blind and now I cansee.'	25 Egli rispose: "Se sia un peccatore non lo so. Io so soltanto una cosa: ero cieco e ora vedo".
26 They said to him, 'What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?'	26 Gli dissero: "Che cosa ti ha fatto? Come ti ha aperto gli occhi?".
27 He replied, 'I have told you once and you wouldn't listen. Why do you want to hear it all again? Do youwant to become his disciples yourselves?'	27 Rispose loro: "Ve l'ho già detto e non mi avete dato ascolto. Perché volete sentirlo ancora? Volete forse anche voi diventare suoi discepoli?".
28 At this they hurled abuse at him, 'It is you who are his disciple, we are disciples of Moses:	28 Lo coprirono allora di ingiurie e gli dissero: "Tu sei discepolo di quello là, ma noi siamo discepoli di Mosè.
29 we know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this man, we don't know where he comes from.'	29 Noi sappiamo che a Mosè Dio ha parlato. Ma costui... non sappiamo donde sia".
30 The man replied, 'That is just what is so amazing! You don't know where he comes from and he hasopened my eyes!	30 L'uomo obiettò loro: "Lo strano è proprio questo: che voi non sappiate donde sia; eppure mi ha aperto gli occhi.
31 We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but God does listen to people who are devout and do hiswil .	31 Noi sappiamo che Dio non ascolta i peccatori, ma se uno è pio e fa la sua volontà, questo lo ascolta.
32 Ever since the world began it is unheard of for anyone to open the eyes of someone born blind;	32 Da che mondo è mondo non si è mai sentito dire che uno abbia aperto gli occhi di un cieco nato.
33 if this man were not from God, he wouldn't have been able to do anything.'	33 Se quell'uomo non fosse da Dio, non avrebbe potuto fare nulla".
34 They retorted, 'Are you trying to teach us, and you a sinner through and through ever since you wereborn!' And they ejected him.	34 Gli risposero: "Sei nato immerso nei peccati e pretendi di insegnarci?". E lo cacciarono fuori.
35 Jesus heard they had ejected him, and when he found him he said to him, 'Do you believe in the Sonof man?'	35 Gesù sentì che l'avevano cacciato fuori e, trovatolo, gli disse: "Credi tu nel Figlio dell'uomo?".
36 'Sir,' the man replied, 'tel me who he is so that I may believe in him.'	36 Rispose: "Ma chi è, Signore, perché io creda in lui?".
37 Jesus said, 'You have seen him; he is speaking to you.'	37 Gli disse Gesù: "Lo hai già visto: è colui che parla con te".
38 The man said, 'Lord, I believe,' and worshipped him.	38 "Credo, Signore", disse; e si prosternò davanti a lui.
39 Jesus said: It is for judgement that I have come into this world, so that those without sight may see andthose with sight may become blind.	39 Disse allora Gesù: "Per una discriminazione sono venuto in questo mondo: perché coloro che non vedono vedano e coloro che vedono diventino ciechi".
40 Hearing this, some Pharisees who were present said to him, 'So we are blind, are we?'	40 Alcuni farisei che erano con lui udirono queste parole e gli dissero: "Siamo forse ciechi anche noi?".
41 Jesus replied: If you were blind, you would not be guilty, but since you say, 'We can see,' your guiltremains.	41 Gesù disse loro: "Se foste ciechi non avreste peccato. Ora invece dite: "Noi vediamo". Il vostro peccato rimane".
