John 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 As he went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.	1 Passando, vide un uomo cieco dalla nascita
2 His disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should have been bornblind?'	2 e i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono: «Rabbì, chi ha peccato, lui o i suoi genitori, perché sia nato cieco?».
3 'Neither he nor his parents sinned,' Jesus answered, 'he was born blind so that the works of God mightbe revealed in him.	3 Rispose Gesù: «Né lui ha peccato né i suoi genitori, ma è perché in lui siano manifestate le opere di Dio.
4 'As long as day lasts we must carry out the work of the one who sent me; the night wil soon be herewhen no one can work.	4 Bisogna che noi compiamo le opere di colui che mi ha mandato finché è giorno; poi viene la notte, quando nessuno può agire.
5 As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world.'	5 Finché io sono nel mondo, sono la luce del mondo».
6 Having said this, he spat on the ground, made a paste with the spittle, put this over the eyes of the blindman,	6 Detto questo, sputò per terra, fece del fango con la saliva, spalmò il fango sugli occhi del cieco
7 and said to him, 'Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam' (the name means 'one who has been sent'). So hewent off and washed and came back able to see.	7 e gli disse: «Va’ a lavarti nella piscina di Sìloe» – che significa Inviato. Quegli andò, si lavò e tornò che ci vedeva.
8 His neighbours and the people who used to see him before (for he was a beggar) said, 'Isn't this theman who used to sit and beg?'	8 Allora i vicini e quelli che lo avevano visto prima, perché era un mendicante, dicevano: «Non è lui quello che stava seduto a chiedere l’elemosina?».
9 Some said, 'Yes, it is the same one.' Others said, 'No, but he looks just like him.' The man himself said,'Yes, I am the one.'	9 Alcuni dicevano: «È lui»; altri dicevano: «No, ma è uno che gli assomiglia». Ed egli diceva: «Sono io!».
10 So they said to him, 'Then how is it that your eyes were opened?'	10 Allora gli domandarono: «In che modo ti sono stati aperti gli occhi?».
11 He answered, 'The man cal ed Jesus made a paste, daubed my eyes with it and said to me, "Go offand wash at Siloam"; so I went, and when I washed I gained my sight.'	11 Egli rispose: «L’uomo che si chiama Gesù ha fatto del fango, mi ha spalmato gli occhi e mi ha detto: “Va’ a Sìloe e làvati!”. Io sono andato, mi sono lavato e ho acquistato la vista».
12 They asked, 'Where is he?' He answered, 'I don't know.'	12 Gli dissero: «Dov’è costui?». Rispose: «Non lo so».
13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.	13 Condussero dai farisei quello che era stato cieco:
14 It had been a Sabbath day when Jesus made the paste and opened the man's eyes,	14 era un sabato, il giorno in cui Gesù aveva fatto del fango e gli aveva aperto gli occhi.
15 so when the Pharisees asked him how he had gained his sight, he said, 'He put a paste on my eyes,and I washed, and I can see.'	15 Anche i farisei dunque gli chiesero di nuovo come aveva acquistato la vista. Ed egli disse loro: «Mi ha messo del fango sugli occhi, mi sono lavato e ci vedo».
16 Then some of the Pharisees said, 'That man cannot be from God: he does not keep the Sabbath.'Others said, 'How can a sinner produce signs like this?' And there was division among them.	16 Allora alcuni dei farisei dicevano: «Quest’uomo non viene da Dio, perché non osserva il sabato». Altri invece dicevano: «Come può un peccatore compiere segni di questo genere?». E c’era dissenso tra loro.
17 So they spoke to the blind man again, 'What have you to say about him yourself, now that he hasopened your eyes?' The man answered, 'He is a prophet.'	17 Allora dissero di nuovo al cieco: «Tu, che cosa dici di lui, dal momento che ti ha aperto gli occhi?». Egli rispose: «È un profeta!».
18 However, the Jews would not believe that the man had been blind without first sending for the parentsof the man who had gained his sight and	18 Ma i Giudei non credettero di lui che fosse stato cieco e che avesse acquistato la vista, finché non chiamarono i genitori di colui che aveva ricuperato la vista.
19 asking them, 'Is this man really the son of yours who you say was born blind? If so, how is it that he isnow able to see?'	19 E li interrogarono: «È questo il vostro figlio, che voi dite essere nato cieco? Come mai ora ci vede?».
20 His parents answered, 'We know he is our son and we know he was born blind,	20 I genitori di lui risposero: «Sappiamo che questo è nostro figlio e che è nato cieco;
21 but how he can see, we don't know, nor who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is old enough: let himspeak for himself.'	21 ma come ora ci veda non lo sappiamo, e chi gli abbia aperto gli occhi, noi non lo sappiamo. Chiedetelo a lui: ha l’età, parlerà lui di sé».
22 His parents spoke like this out of fear of the Jews, who had already agreed to ban from the synagogueanyone who should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ.	22 Questo dissero i suoi genitori, perché avevano paura dei Giudei; infatti i Giudei avevano già stabilito che, se uno lo avesse riconosciuto come il Cristo, venisse espulso dalla sinagoga.
23 This was why his parents said, 'He is old enough; ask him.'	23 Per questo i suoi genitori dissero: «Ha l’età: chiedetelo a lui!».
24 So the Jews sent for the man again and said to him, 'Give glory to God! We are satisfied that this manis a sinner.'	24 Allora chiamarono di nuovo l’uomo che era stato cieco e gli dissero: «Da’ gloria a Dio! Noi sappiamo che quest’uomo è un peccatore».
25 The man answered, 'Whether he is a sinner I don't know; al I know is that I was blind and now I cansee.'	25 Quello rispose: «Se sia un peccatore, non lo so. Una cosa io so: ero cieco e ora ci vedo».
26 They said to him, 'What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?'	26 Allora gli dissero: «Che cosa ti ha fatto? Come ti ha aperto gli occhi?».
27 He replied, 'I have told you once and you wouldn't listen. Why do you want to hear it all again? Do youwant to become his disciples yourselves?'	27 Rispose loro: «Ve l’ho già detto e non avete ascoltato; perché volete udirlo di nuovo? Volete forse diventare anche voi suoi discepoli?».
28 At this they hurled abuse at him, 'It is you who are his disciple, we are disciples of Moses:	28 Lo insultarono e dissero: «Suo discepolo sei tu! Noi siamo discepoli di Mosè!
29 we know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this man, we don't know where he comes from.'	29 Noi sappiamo che a Mosè ha parlato Dio; ma costui non sappiamo di dove sia».
30 The man replied, 'That is just what is so amazing! You don't know where he comes from and he hasopened my eyes!	30 Rispose loro quell’uomo: «Proprio questo stupisce: che voi non sapete di dove sia, eppure mi ha aperto gli occhi.
31 We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but God does listen to people who are devout and do hiswil .	31 Sappiamo che Dio non ascolta i peccatori, ma che, se uno onora Dio e fa la sua volontà, egli lo ascolta.
32 Ever since the world began it is unheard of for anyone to open the eyes of someone born blind;	32 Da che mondo è mondo, non si è mai sentito dire che uno abbia aperto gli occhi a un cieco nato.
33 if this man were not from God, he wouldn't have been able to do anything.'	33 Se costui non venisse da Dio, non avrebbe potuto far nulla».
34 They retorted, 'Are you trying to teach us, and you a sinner through and through ever since you wereborn!' And they ejected him.	34 Gli replicarono: «Sei nato tutto nei peccati e insegni a noi?». E lo cacciarono fuori.
35 Jesus heard they had ejected him, and when he found him he said to him, 'Do you believe in the Sonof man?'	35 Gesù seppe che l’avevano cacciato fuori; quando lo trovò, gli disse: «Tu, credi nel Figlio dell’uomo?».
36 'Sir,' the man replied, 'tel me who he is so that I may believe in him.'	36 Egli rispose: «E chi è, Signore, perché io creda in lui?».
37 Jesus said, 'You have seen him; he is speaking to you.'	37 Gli disse Gesù: «Lo hai visto: è colui che parla con te».
38 The man said, 'Lord, I believe,' and worshipped him.	38 Ed egli disse: «Credo, Signore!». E si prostrò dinanzi a lui.
39 Jesus said: It is for judgement that I have come into this world, so that those without sight may see andthose with sight may become blind.	39 Gesù allora disse: «È per un giudizio che io sono venuto in questo mondo, perché coloro che non vedono, vedano e quelli che vedono, diventino ciechi».
40 Hearing this, some Pharisees who were present said to him, 'So we are blind, are we?'	40 Alcuni dei farisei che erano con lui udirono queste parole e gli dissero: «Siamo ciechi anche noi?».
41 Jesus replied: If you were blind, you would not be guilty, but since you say, 'We can see,' your guiltremains.	41 Gesù rispose loro: «Se foste ciechi, non avreste alcun peccato; ma siccome dite: “Noi vediamo”, il vostro peccato rimane».
