1 It was very early on the first day of the week and stil dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb.She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb	1 וַיְהִי בְּאֶחָד בַּשַּׁבָּת לִפְנוֹת הַבֹּקֶר בְּעוֹד חשֶׁךְ וַתָּבֹא מִרְיָם הַמַּגְדָּלִית אֶל־הַקָּבֶר וַתֵּרֵא אֶת־הָאֶבֶן מוּסָרָה מֵעַל הַקָּבֶר
2 and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. 'They have takenthe Lord out of the tomb,' she said, 'and we don't know where they have put him.'	2 וַתָּרָץ וַתָּבֹא אֶל־שִׁמְעוֹן פֶּטְרוֹס וְאֶל־הַתַּלְמִיד הָאַחֵר אֲשֶׁר אֲהֵבוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ וַתֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם הִנֵּה נָשְׂאוּ אֶת־הָאָדוֹן מִקִּבְרוֹ וְלֹא יָדַעְנוּ אֵיפֹה הִנִּיחֻהוּ
3 So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb.	3 וַיֵּצֵא פֶטְרוֹס וְהַתַּלְמִיד הָאַחֵר וַיֵּלְכוּ אֶל־הַקָּבֶר
4 They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first;	4 וַיָּרוּצוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם יַחְדָּו וַיְמַהֵר הַתַּלְמִיד הָאַחֵר לָרוּץ וַיַּעֲבֹר אֶת־פֶּטְרוֹס וַיָּבֹא רִאשׁוֹנָה אֶל־הַקָּבֶר
5 he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in.	5 וַיַּשְׁקֵף אֶל־תּוֹכוֹ וַיַּרְא אֶת־הַתַּכְרִיכִין מֻנָּחִים אַךְ לֹא־בָא פְנִימָה
6 Simon Peter, fol owing him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying on the ground	6 וַיָּבֹא שִׁמְעוֹן פֶּטְרוֹס אַחֲרָיו וְהוּא נִכְנַס אֶל־הַקָּבֶר וַיַּרְא אֶת־הַתַּכְרִיכִין מֻנָּחִים
7 and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in aplace by itself.	7 וְהַמִּטְפַּחַת אֲשֶׁר הָיְתָה עַל־רֹאשׁוֹ אֵינֶנָּה מֻנַּחַת אֵצֶל הַתַּכְרִיכִין כִּי אִם־מְקֻפֶּלֶת לְבַדָּהּ בִּמְקוֹמָהּ
8 Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed.	8 וַיָּבֹא שָׁמָּה גַּם־הַתַּלְמִיד הָאַחֵר אֲשֶׁר־בָּא רִאשׁוֹנָה אֶל־הַקָּבֶר וַיַּרְא וַיַּאֲמֵן
9 Til this moment they had stil not understood the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.	9 כִּי לֹא־הֵבִינוּ עַד־עַתָּה אֶת־הַכָּתוּב אֲשֶׁר קוֹם יָקוּם מֵעִם הַמֵּתִים
10 The disciples then went back home.	10 וַיָּשׁוּבוּ הַתַּלְמִידִים וַיֵּלְכוּ אֶל־בֵּיתָם
11 But Mary was standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, as she wept, she stooped to lookinside,	11 וּמִרְיָם עָמְדָה בוֹכִיָּה מִחוּץ לַקָּבֶר וַיְהִי בִבְכּוֹתָהּ וַתַּשְׁקֵף אֶל־תּוֹךְ הַקָּבֶר
12 and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other atthe feet.	12 וַתֵּרֶא שְׁנֵי מַלְאָכִים לְבוּשֵׁי לְבָנִים ישְׁבִים בִּמְקוֹם אֲשֶׁר־שָׂמוּ שָׁם אֶת־גּוּפַת יֵשׁוּעַ אֶחָד מְרַאֲשׁוֹתָיו וְאֶחָד מַרְגְּלוֹתָיו
13 They said, 'Woman, why are you weeping?' 'They have taken my Lord away,' she replied, 'and I don'tknow where they have put him.'	13 וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלֶיהָ אִשָּׁה לָמָה תִבְכִּי וַתֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם כִּי נָשְׂאוּ מִזֶּה אֶת־אֲדֹנִי וְלֹא יָדַעְתִּי אֵיפֹה הִנִּיחֻהוּ
14 As she said this she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realise that itwas Jesus.	14 וַיְהִי בְדַבְּרָהּ זֹאת וַתֵּפֶן אַחֲרֶיהָ וַתֵּרֶא אֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ עֹמֵד וְלֹא יָדְעָה כִּי הוּא יֵשׁוּעַ
15 Jesus said to her, 'Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?' Supposing him to be thegardener, she said, 'Sir, if you have taken him away, tel me where you have put him, and I will go and removehim.'	15 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ יֵשׁוּעַ אִשָּׁה לָמָה תִבְכִּי אֶת־מִי תְבַקֵּשִׁי וְהִיא חָשְׁבָה כִּי־הוּא שֹׁמֵר הַגָּן וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲדֹנִי אִם־אַתָּה נָשָׂאתָ אֹתוֹ מִזֶּה הַגִּידָה־נָּא לִי אֵיפֹה הִנַּחְתּוֹ וּלְקַחְתִּיו מִשָּׁם
16 Jesus said, 'Mary!' She turned round then and said to him in Hebrew, 'Rabbuni!' -- which meansMaster.	16 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ יֵשׁוּעַ מִרְיָם וַתֵּפֶן וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו רַבּוּנִי הוּא מוֹרֶה
17 Jesus said to her, 'Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to thebrothers, and tell them: I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'	17 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ יֵשׁוּעַ אַל־תִּגְּעִי בִי כִּי עוֹד לֹא עָלִיתִי אֶל־אָבִי אַךְ לְכִי־נָא אֶל־אַחַי וְאִמְרִי אֲלֵיהֶם אֲנִי עֹלֶה אֶל־אָבִי וַאֲבִיכֶם וְאֶל־אֱלֹהַי וֵאלֹהֵיכֶם
18 So Mary of Magdala told the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord,' and that he had said these things toher.	18 וַתָּבֹא מִרְיָם הַמַּגְדָּלִית וַתְּסַפֵּר אֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִים כִּי־רָאֲתָה אֶת־הָאָדוֹן וְכָזֹאת דִּבֶּר אֵלֶיהָ
19 In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room wherethe disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be withyou,'	19 וַיְהִי לְעֵת־עֶרֶב בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא וְהוּא אֶחָד בַּשַּׁבָּת כַּאֲשֶׁר נִסְגְּרוּ דַּלְתוֹת הַבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר־נִקְבְּצוּ שָׁם הַתַּלְמִידִים מִיִּרְאַת הַיְּהוּדִים וַיָּבֹא יֵשׁוּעַ וַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּינֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם שָׁלוֹם לָכֶם
20 and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy atseeing the Lord,	20 וּבְדַבְּרוֹ זֹאת הֶרְאָה אֹתָם אֶת־יָדָיו וְאֶת־צִדּוֹ וַיִּשְׂמְחוּ הַתַּלְמִידִים בִּרְאוֹתָם אֶת־הָאָדוֹן
21 and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you. 'As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.'	21 וַיֹּסֶף יֵשׁוּעַ לְדַבֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם שָׁלוֹם לָכֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח אֹתִי הָאָב כֵּן אָנֹכִי שֹׁלֵחַ אֶתְכֶם
22 After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.	22 וַיְהִי בְדַבְּרוֹ זֹאת וַיִּפַּח בָּהֶם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם קְחוּ לָכֶם אֶת־רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ
23 If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone's sins, they are retained.	23 וְהָיָה כָּל־אֲשֶׁר תִּסְלְחוּ אֶת־חַטֹּאתָם וְנִסְלַח לָהֶם וַאֲשֶׁר תַּאֲשִׁימוּ יֶאְשָׁמוּ
24 Thomas, cal ed the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.	24 וְתוֹמָא אֶחָד מִשְּׁנֵים הֶעָשָׂר הַנִּקְרָא דִידוּמוֹס לֹא־הָיָה בְתוֹכָם כְּבוֹא יֵשׁוּעַ
25 So the other disciples said to him, 'We have seen the Lord,' but he answered, 'Unless I can see theholes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put myhand into his side, I refuse to believe.'	25 וַיַּגִּידוּ לוֹ הַתַּלְמִידִים הַנִּשְׁאָרִים רָאֹה רָאִינוּ אֶת־הָאָדוֹן וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם אִם־לֹא אֶרְאֶה בְיָדָיו אֶת־רשֶׁם הַמַּסְמְרוֹת וְאָשִׂים אֶת־אֶצְבָּעִי בִּמְקוֹם הַמַּסְמְרוֹת וְאָשִׂים אֶת־יָדִי בְּצִדּוֹ לֹא אַאֲמִין
26 Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors wereclosed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. 'Peace be with you,' he said.	26 וַיְהִי מִקְצֵה שְׁמוֹנַת יָמִים וְתַלְמִידָיו שֵׁנִית בַּבַּיִת פְּנִימָה וְתוֹמָא עִמָּהֶם וַיָּבֹא יֵשׁוּעַ וְהַדְּלָתוֹת מְסֻגָּרוֹת וַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּינֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁלוֹם לָכֶם
27 Then he spoke to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put itinto my side. Do not be unbelieving any more but believe.'	27 וְאַחַר אָמַר אֶל־תּוֹמָא שְׁלַח אֶצְבָּעֲךָ הֵנָּה וּרְאֵה אֶת־יָדַי וּשְׁלַח אֶת־יָדְךָ הֵנָּה וְשִׂים בְּצִדִּי וְאַל־תְּהִי חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה כִּי אִם־מַאֲמִין
28 Thomas replied, 'My Lord and my God!'	28 וַיַּעַן תּוֹמָא וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲדֹנִי וֵאלֹהָי
29 Jesus said to him: You believe because you can see me. Blessed are those who have not seen andyet believe.	29 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יֵשׁוּעַ יַעַן רָאִיתָ אֹתִי תּוֹמָא הֶאֱמַנְתָּ אַשְׁרֵי הַמַּאֲמִינִים וְאֵינָם רֹאִים
30 There were many other signs that Jesus worked in the sight of the disciples, but they are notrecorded in this book.	30 וְהִנֵּה גַּם־אֹתוֹת אֲחֵרִים רַבִּים עָשָׂה יֵשׁוּעַ לְעֵינֵי תַלְמִידָיו אֲשֶׁר לֹא־נִכְתְּבוּ בַּסֵּפֶר הַזֶּה
31 These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and thatbelieving this you may have life through his name.	31 אַךְ־אֵלֶּה נִכְתְּבוּ לְמַעַן תַּאֲמִינוּ כִּי יֵשׁוּעַ הוּא הַמָּשִׁיחַ בֶּן־אֱלֹהִים וּלְמַעַן יִהְיוּ לָכֶם הַמַּאֲמִינִים חַיֵּי עוֹלָם בִּשְׁמוֹ
