NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
It was very early on the first day of the week and stil dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. 'They have takenthe Lord out of the tomb,' she said, 'and we don't know where they have put him.'2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb.3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first;4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in.5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
Simon Peter, fol owing him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying on the ground6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in aplace by itself.7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed.8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
Til this moment they had stil not understood the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
The disciples then went back home.10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
But Mary was standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, as she wept, she stooped to lookinside,11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other atthe feet.12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
They said, 'Woman, why are you weeping?' 'They have taken my Lord away,' she replied, 'and I don'tknow where they have put him.'13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
As she said this she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realise that itwas Jesus.14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, 'Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?' Supposing him to be thegardener, she said, 'Sir, if you have taken him away, tel me where you have put him, and I will go and removehim.'15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
Jesus said, 'Mary!' She turned round then and said to him in Hebrew, 'Rabbuni!' -- which meansMaster.16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
Jesus said to her, 'Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to thebrothers, and tell them: I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
So Mary of Magdala told the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord,' and that he had said these things toher.18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room wherethe disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be withyou,'19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy atseeing the Lord,20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you. 'As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.'21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone's sins, they are retained.23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
Thomas, cal ed the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, 'We have seen the Lord,' but he answered, 'Unless I can see theholes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put myhand into his side, I refuse to believe.'25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors wereclosed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. 'Peace be with you,' he said.26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
Then he spoke to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put itinto my side. Do not be unbelieving any more but believe.'27 Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
Thomas replied, 'My Lord and my God!'28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Jesus said to him: You believe because you can see me. Blessed are those who have not seen andyet believe.29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
There were many other signs that Jesus worked in the sight of the disciples, but they are notrecorded in this book.30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and thatbelieving this you may have life through his name.31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
