John 12

1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised fromthe dead.	1 Gesù adunque, sei giorni prima di Pasqua, andò a Betania, dov'era Lazzaro, il morto che Gesù aveva risuscitato.
2 They gave a dinner for him there; Martha waited on them and Lazarus was among those at table.	2 Ed ivi gli fecero una cena; e Marta serviva a tavola, Lazzaro poi era uno dei suoi commensali.
3 Mary brought in a pound of very costly ointment, pure nard, and with it anointed the feet of Jesus,wiping them with her hair; the house was fil ed with the scent of the ointment.	3 Or Maria, presa una libbra d'unguento di nardo puro di gran pregio, unse i piedi di Gesù e glieli asciugò coi suoi capelli, e la casa fu ripiena del profumo dell'unguento.
4 Then Judas Iscariot -- one of his disciples, the man who was to betray him-said,	4 Disse allora uno dei suoi discepoli, Giuda Iscariote, il quale stava per tradirlo:
5 'Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denari and the money given to the poor?'	5 E perchè tal unguento non si è venduto per trecento danari e dato ai poveri?
6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of thecommon fund and used to help himself to the contents.	6 Ciò disse, non perchè gl'importasse dei poveri, ma perchè era ladro, e, tenendo la borsa, portava via quel che ci mettevan dentro.
7 So Jesus said, 'Leave her alone; let her keep it for the day of my burial.	7 Disse adunque Gesù: Lasciatela fare: e ciò le valga pel giorno della mia sepoltura.
8 You have the poor with you always, you wil not always have me.'	8 Chè i poveri li avete sempre con voi, me però non sempre mi avrete.
9 Meanwhile a large number of Jews heard that he was there and came not only on account of Jesusbut also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Or molta gente dei Giudei venne a sapere come Gesù fosse in Betania, e vi andarono non per Gesù soltanto, ma anche per vedere Lazzaro da lui risuscitato dai morti.
10 Then the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus as well,	10 Deliberarono allora i principi dei sacerdoti di ammazzare anche Lazzaro;
11 since it was on his account that many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.	11 perchè molti per causa di lui abbandonavano i Giudei e credevano in Gesù.
12 The next day the great crowd of people who had come up for the festival heard that Jesus was on hisway to Jerusalem.	12 Il giorno dopo una gran folla, accorsa alla festa, avendo sentito che Gesù veniva a Gerusalemme,
13 They took branches of palm and went out to receive him, shouting: 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel.'	13 prese dei rami di palma e andò ad incontrarlo, gridando: Osanna! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore: il re d'Israele.
14 Jesus found a young donkey and mounted it -- as scripture says:	14 E Gesù, trovato un asinello, vi montò sopra, come sta scritto:
15 Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion; look, your king is approaching, riding on the foal of a donkey.	15 Non temere, figlia di Sion: ecco viene il tuo re, seduto sopra un puledro d'asina.
16 At first his disciples did not understand this, but later, after Jesus had been glorified, theyremembered that this had been written about him and that this was what had happened to him.	16 Queste cose i suoi discepoli allora non le compresero; ma, glorificato che fu Gesù, si ricordarono che erano state scritte di lui, e che gli erano state fatte.
17 The crowd who had been with him when he cal ed Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from thedead kept bearing witness to it;	17 E la folla che era con lui quando chiamò Lazzaro fuori del sepolcro e lo risuscitò dai morti, ne rendeva testimonianza.
18 this was another reason why the crowd came out to receive him: they had heard that he had giventhis sign.	18 Anche per questo gli andò incontro la furba, perchè aveva sentito che egli aveva fatto quel miracolo.
19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, 'You see, you are making no progress; look, the whole worldhas gone after him!'	19 I Farisei allora dissero fra di loro: Vedete che non concludiamo nulla? Ecco, tutto il mondo gli va dietro. L'omaggio dei Gentili
20 Among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks.	20 Or fra quelli accorsi ad adorare per la festa, v'erano alcuni dentili.
21 These approached Philip, who came from Bethsaida in Galilee, and put this request to him, 'Sir, weshould like to see Jesus.'	21 Questi, accostatisi a Filippo, che era di Betsaida della Galilea, lo pregarono dicendo: Signore, desideriamo vedere Gesù.
22 Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip together went to tel Jesus.	22 Filippo andò a dirlo ad Andrea, e Andrea e Filippo lo dissero a Gesù.
23 Jesus replied to them: Now the hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.	23 E Gesù rispose loro: E' venuta l'ora nella quale deve essere glorificato il Figlio dell'uomo.
24 In all truth I tell you, unless a wheat grain fal s into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain;but if it dies it yields a rich harvest.	24 In verità, in verità vi dico: se il granello di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane infecondo; se invece muore, produce molto frutto.
25 Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world wil keep it for eternal life.	25 Chi ama la sua vita la perderà e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo, la salverà per la vita eterna.
26 Whoever serves me, must fol ow me, and my servant wil be with me wherever I am. If anyone servesme, my Father wil honour him.	26 Se uno mi vuol servire mi segua; e dove son io, ci sarà pure il mio servo. Se uno mi serve l'onorerà il Padre mio.
27 Now my soul is troubled. What shal I say: Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this veryreason that I have come to this hour.	27 Ma ora ramina mia è conturbata: E che dirò? Padre, salvami da quest'ora? Ma sono venuto appunto per quest'ora.
28 Father, glorify your name! A voice came from heaven, 'I have glorified it, and I wil again glorify it.'	28 Padre, glorifica il tuo nome. E dal cielo venne questa voce: E l'ho glorificato, e di nuovo lo glorificherò.
29 The crowd standing by, who heard this, said it was a clap of thunder; others said, 'It was an angelspeaking to him.'	29 Or la folla che era presente, e udì, disse che era stato un tuono. Altri dicevano: Un Angelo gli ha parlato.
30 Jesus answered, 'It was not for my sake that this voice came, but for yours.	30 E Gesù prese a dire: Non per me, ma per voi è venuta questa voce.
31 'Now sentence is being passed on this world; now the prince of this world is to be driven out.	31 Or si fa giudizio di questo mondo, ora il principe di questo mondo sarà cacciato fuori.
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shal draw al people to myself.'	32 Ed io quando sarò innalzato da terra, trarrò tutto a me.
33 By these words he indicated the kind of death he would die.	33 Ciò diceva per significare di qual morte doveva morire.
34 The crowd answered, 'The Law has taught us that the Christ wil remain for ever. So how can yousay, "The Son of man must be lifted up"? Who is this Son of man?'	34 Gli rispose la gente: Noi abbiamo appreso dalla legge che il Cristo vive in eterno. Or come dici tu che il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere innalzato? Chi è questo Figlio dell'uomo?
35 Jesus then said: The light wil be with you only a little longer now. Go on your way while you have thelight, or darkness wil overtake you, and nobody who walks in the dark knows where he is going.	35 Disse allora Gesù ad essi: Ancora un poco la luce è con voi. Camminate mentre avete la luce, affinchè non vi sorprendano le tenebre; e chi cammina nel buio, non sa dove vada.
36 While you stil have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light. Having saidthis, Jesus left them and was hidden from their sight.	36 Finchè avete luce, credete nella luce, per esser figli della luce. Queste cose disse Gesù; poi se ne andò e si nascose da essi.
37 Though they had been present when he gave so many signs, they did not believe in him;	37 Ma sebbene avesse fatti cosi grandi miracoli, davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,
38 this was to fulfil the words of the prophet Isaiah: Lord, who has given credence to what they haveheard from us, and who has seen in it a revelation of the Lord's arm?	38 affinché s'adempisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: Signore, chi ha creduto a ciò che ha ascoltato da noi? E a chi è stato rivelato il braccio del Signore?
39 Indeed, they were unable to believe because, as Isaiah says again:	39 Non potevan credere perchè Isaia aveva anche detto:
40 He has blinded their eyes, he has hardened their heart, to prevent them from using their eyes to see,using their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	40 Accecò i loro occhi e indurì il loro cuore, affinchè cogli occhi non vedano, e col cuore non intendano, e si convertano e li risani.
41 Isaiah said this because he saw his glory, and his words referred to Jesus.	41 Tali cose disse Isaia allorché ne vide la gloria e ne parlò.
42 And yet there were many who did believe in him, even among the leading men, but they did not admitit, because of the Pharisees and for fear of being banned from the synagogue:	42 Nondimeno anche dei capi molti credettero in lui; ma per paura dei Farisei non lo confessavano, per non essere cacciati dalla sinagoga.
43 they put human glory before God's glory.	43 Perchè amarono più la gloria degli uomini che quella di Dio.
44 Jesus declared publicly: Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in the one who sent me,	44 Ma Gesù esclamò ad alta voce: Chi crede in me, crede non in me, ma in colui che mi ha mandato;
45 and whoever sees me, sees the one who sent me.	45 e chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato.
46 I have come into the world as light, to prevent anyone who believes in me from staying in the darkany more.	46 Io son venuto luce al mondo, affinchè chi crede in me non resti nelle tenebre.
47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithful y, it is not I who shal judge such a person,since I have come not to judge the world, but to save the world:	47 E se uno ascolta le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo giudico: non son venuto infatti a giudicare, ma a salvare il mondo.
48 anyone who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I havespoken wil be his judge on the last day.	48 Chi mi disprezza e non riceve le mie parole, ha chi lo giudica: la parola da me annunziata, quella lo giudicherà nel giorno estremo.
49 For I have not spoken of my own accord; but the Father who sent me commanded me what to sayand what to speak,	49 Perchè io non ho parlato di mio; ma il Padre, che mi ha mandato, egli stesso mi ha prescritto quel che debbo dire e di che ho da parlare.
50 and I know that his commands mean eternal life. And therefore what the Father has told me is what Ispeak.	50 E so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna. Le cose adunque che dico, le dico come me le ha dette il Padre.
