John 12

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised fromthe dead.	1 Sei giorni prima della Pasqua, Gesù andò a Betània, dove si trovava Lazzaro, che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti.
2 They gave a dinner for him there; Martha waited on them and Lazarus was among those at table.	2 E qui fecero per lui una cena: Marta serviva e Lazzaro era uno dei commensali.
3 Mary brought in a pound of very costly ointment, pure nard, and with it anointed the feet of Jesus,wiping them with her hair; the house was fil ed with the scent of the ointment.	3 Maria allora prese trecento grammi di profumo di puro nardo, assai prezioso, ne cosparse i piedi di Gesù, poi li asciugò con i suoi capelli, e tutta la casa si riempì dell’aroma di quel profumo.
4 Then Judas Iscariot -- one of his disciples, the man who was to betray him-said,	4 Allora Giuda Iscariota, uno dei suoi discepoli, che stava per tradirlo, disse:
5 'Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denari and the money given to the poor?'	5 «Perché non si è venduto questo profumo per trecento denari e non si sono dati ai poveri?».
6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of thecommon fund and used to help himself to the contents.	6 Disse questo non perché gli importasse dei poveri, ma perché era un ladro e, siccome teneva la cassa, prendeva quello che vi mettevano dentro.
7 So Jesus said, 'Leave her alone; let her keep it for the day of my burial.	7 Gesù allora disse: «Lasciala fare, perché essa lo conservi per il giorno della mia sepoltura.
8 You have the poor with you always, you wil not always have me.'	8 I poveri infatti li avete sempre con voi, ma non sempre avete me».
9 Meanwhile a large number of Jews heard that he was there and came not only on account of Jesusbut also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Intanto una grande folla di Giudei venne a sapere che egli si trovava là e accorse, non solo per Gesù, ma anche per vedere Lazzaro che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti.
10 Then the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus as well,	10 I capi dei sacerdoti allora decisero di uccidere anche Lazzaro,
11 since it was on his account that many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.	11 perché molti Giudei se ne andavano a causa di lui e credevano in Gesù.
12 The next day the great crowd of people who had come up for the festival heard that Jesus was on hisway to Jerusalem.	12 Il giorno seguente, la grande folla che era venuta per la festa, udito che Gesù veniva a Gerusalemme,
13 They took branches of palm and went out to receive him, shouting: 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel.'	13 prese dei rami di palme e uscì incontro a lui gridando: «Osanna! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore, il re d’Israele!».
14 Jesus found a young donkey and mounted it -- as scripture says:	14 Gesù, trovato un asinello, vi montò sopra, come sta scritto:
15 Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion; look, your king is approaching, riding on the foal of a donkey.	15 Non temere, figlia di Sion! Ecco, il tuo re viene, seduto su un puledro d’asina.
16 At first his disciples did not understand this, but later, after Jesus had been glorified, theyremembered that this had been written about him and that this was what had happened to him.	16 I suoi discepoli sul momento non compresero queste cose; ma, quando Gesù fu glorificato, si ricordarono che di lui erano state scritte queste cose e che a lui essi le avevano fatte.
17 The crowd who had been with him when he cal ed Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from thedead kept bearing witness to it;	17 Intanto la folla, che era stata con lui quando chiamò Lazzaro fuori dal sepolcro e lo risuscitò dai morti, gli dava testimonianza.
18 this was another reason why the crowd came out to receive him: they had heard that he had giventhis sign.	18 Anche per questo la folla gli era andata incontro, perché aveva udito che egli aveva compiuto questo segno.
19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, 'You see, you are making no progress; look, the whole worldhas gone after him!'	19 I farisei allora dissero tra loro: «Vedete che non ottenete nulla? Ecco: il mondo è andato dietro a lui!».
20 Among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks.	20 Tra quelli che erano saliti per il culto durante la festa c’erano anche alcuni Greci.
21 These approached Philip, who came from Bethsaida in Galilee, and put this request to him, 'Sir, weshould like to see Jesus.'	21 Questi si avvicinarono a Filippo, che era di Betsàida di Galilea, e gli domandarono: «Signore, vogliamo vedere Gesù».
22 Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip together went to tel Jesus.	22 Filippo andò a dirlo ad Andrea, e poi Andrea e Filippo andarono a dirlo a Gesù.
23 Jesus replied to them: Now the hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.	23 Gesù rispose loro: «È venuta l’ora che il Figlio dell’uomo sia glorificato.
24 In all truth I tell you, unless a wheat grain fal s into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain;but if it dies it yields a rich harvest.	24 In verità, in verità io vi dico: se il chicco di grano, caduto in terra, non muore, rimane solo; se invece muore, produce molto frutto.
25 Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world wil keep it for eternal life.	25 Chi ama la propria vita, la perde e chi odia la propria vita in questo mondo, la conserverà per la vita eterna.
26 Whoever serves me, must fol ow me, and my servant wil be with me wherever I am. If anyone servesme, my Father wil honour him.	26 Se uno mi vuole servire, mi segua, e dove sono io, là sarà anche il mio servitore. Se uno serve me, il Padre lo onorerà.
27 Now my soul is troubled. What shal I say: Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this veryreason that I have come to this hour.	27 Adesso l’anima mia è turbata; che cosa dirò? Padre, salvami da quest’ora? Ma proprio per questo sono giunto a quest’ora!
28 Father, glorify your name! A voice came from heaven, 'I have glorified it, and I wil again glorify it.'	28 Padre, glorifica il tuo nome». Venne allora una voce dal cielo: «L’ho glorificato e lo glorificherò ancora!».
29 The crowd standing by, who heard this, said it was a clap of thunder; others said, 'It was an angelspeaking to him.'	29 La folla, che era presente e aveva udito, diceva che era stato un tuono. Altri dicevano: «Un angelo gli ha parlato».
30 Jesus answered, 'It was not for my sake that this voice came, but for yours.	30 Disse Gesù: «Questa voce non è venuta per me, ma per voi.
31 'Now sentence is being passed on this world; now the prince of this world is to be driven out.	31 Ora è il giudizio di questo mondo; ora il principe di questo mondo sarà gettato fuori.
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shal draw al people to myself.'	32 E io, quando sarò innalzato da terra, attirerò tutti a me».
33 By these words he indicated the kind of death he would die.	33 Diceva questo per indicare di quale morte doveva morire.
34 The crowd answered, 'The Law has taught us that the Christ wil remain for ever. So how can yousay, "The Son of man must be lifted up"? Who is this Son of man?'	34 Allora la folla gli rispose: «Noi abbiamo appreso dalla Legge che il Cristo rimane in eterno; come puoi dire che il Figlio dell’uomo deve essere innalzato? Chi è questo Figlio dell’uomo?».
35 Jesus then said: The light wil be with you only a little longer now. Go on your way while you have thelight, or darkness wil overtake you, and nobody who walks in the dark knows where he is going.	35 Allora Gesù disse loro: «Ancora per poco tempo la luce è tra voi. Camminate mentre avete la luce, perché le tenebre non vi sorprendano; chi cammina nelle tenebre non sa dove va.
36 While you stil have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light. Having saidthis, Jesus left them and was hidden from their sight.	36 Mentre avete la luce, credete nella luce, per diventare figli della luce». Gesù disse queste cose, poi se ne andò e si nascose loro.
37 Though they had been present when he gave so many signs, they did not believe in him;	37 Sebbene avesse compiuto segni così grandi davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,
38 this was to fulfil the words of the prophet Isaiah: Lord, who has given credence to what they haveheard from us, and who has seen in it a revelation of the Lord's arm?	38 perché si compisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra parola? E la forza del Signore, a chi è stata rivelata?
39 Indeed, they were unable to believe because, as Isaiah says again:	39 Per questo non potevano credere, poiché ancora Isaia disse:
40 He has blinded their eyes, he has hardened their heart, to prevent them from using their eyes to see,using their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	40 Ha reso ciechi i loro occhi e duro il loro cuore, perché non vedano con gli occhi e non comprendano con il cuore e non si convertano, e io li guarisca!
41 Isaiah said this because he saw his glory, and his words referred to Jesus.	41 Questo disse Isaia perché vide la sua gloria e parlò di lui.
42 And yet there were many who did believe in him, even among the leading men, but they did not admitit, because of the Pharisees and for fear of being banned from the synagogue:	42 Tuttavia, anche tra i capi, molti credettero in lui, ma, a causa dei farisei, non lo dichiaravano, per non essere espulsi dalla sinagoga.
43 they put human glory before God's glory.	43 Amavano infatti la gloria degli uomini più che la gloria di Dio.
44 Jesus declared publicly: Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in the one who sent me,	44 Gesù allora esclamò: «Chi crede in me, non crede in me ma in colui che mi ha mandato;
45 and whoever sees me, sees the one who sent me.	45 chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato.
46 I have come into the world as light, to prevent anyone who believes in me from staying in the darkany more.	46 Io sono venuto nel mondo come luce, perché chiunque crede in me non rimanga nelle tenebre.
47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithful y, it is not I who shal judge such a person,since I have come not to judge the world, but to save the world:	47 Se qualcuno ascolta le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo condanno; perché non sono venuto per condannare il mondo, ma per salvare il mondo.
48 anyone who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I havespoken wil be his judge on the last day.	48 Chi mi rifiuta e non accoglie le mie parole, ha chi lo condanna: la parola che ho detto lo condannerà nell’ultimo giorno.
49 For I have not spoken of my own accord; but the Father who sent me commanded me what to sayand what to speak,	49 Perché io non ho parlato da me stesso, ma il Padre, che mi ha mandato, mi ha ordinato lui di che cosa parlare e che cosa devo dire.
50 and I know that his commands mean eternal life. And therefore what the Father has told me is what Ispeak.	50 E io so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna. Le cose dunque che io dico, le dico così come il Padre le ha dette a me».
