NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised fromthe dead.	1 - Sei giorni prima di Pasqua Gesù venne a Betania, dov'era Lazzaro, il morto da lui risuscitato.
2 They gave a dinner for him there; Martha waited on them and Lazarus was among those at table.	2 E quivi gli fecero una cena; Marta serviva e Lazzaro era uno dei commensali.
3 Mary brought in a pound of very costly ointment, pure nard, and with it anointed the feet of Jesus,wiping them with her hair; the house was fil ed with the scent of the ointment.	3 Maria poi prese una libbra d'unguento di nardo di gran valore, e ne unse i piedi di Gesù e glieli asciugò coi suoi capelli; e la casa fu ripiena dell'odore dell'unguento.
4 Then Judas Iscariot -- one of his disciples, the man who was to betray him-said,	4 Allora uno dei suoi discepoli, Giuda Iscariote, il quale doveva tradirlo, disse:
5 'Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denari and the money given to the poor?'	5 «Perchè non si è venduto quest'unguento per trecento danari, e non lo si è dato ai poveri?».
6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of thecommon fund and used to help himself to the contents.	6 Egli poi disse ciò non perchè si curasse dei poveri; ma perchè era ladro e, siccome teneva la borsa, asportava ciò che vi si metteva.
7 So Jesus said, 'Leave her alone; let her keep it for the day of my burial.	7 Gesù però gli disse: «Lasciala stare; ella ha serbato questo profumo per il giorno della mia sepoltura,
8 You have the poor with you always, you wil not always have me.'	8 poichè i poveri li avete sempre con voi, ma non sempre avrete me».
9 Meanwhile a large number of Jews heard that he was there and came not only on account of Jesusbut also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Pertanto un gran numero di Giudei seppe che Gesù era colà, e vennero non solo per Gesù, ma anche per veder Lazzaro da lui risuscitato dai morti.
10 Then the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus as well,	10 Ma i capi dei sacerdoti deliberarono di far morire anche Lazzaro,
11 since it was on his account that many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.	11 perchè per causa sua, molti se ne partivano da loro e credevano in Gesù.
12 The next day the great crowd of people who had come up for the festival heard that Jesus was on hisway to Jerusalem.	12 Il giorno seguente la gran folla, accorsa alla festa, saputo che Gesù veniva a Gerusalemme,
13 They took branches of palm and went out to receive him, shouting: 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel.'	13 prese dei rami di palme e uscì a incontrarlo, gridando: «Osanna! Benedetto Colui che viene nel nome del Signore, il re d'Israele!».
14 Jesus found a young donkey and mounted it -- as scripture says:	14 E Gesù, trovato un asinello, vi montò sopra, secondo quanto sta scritto:
15 Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion; look, your king is approaching, riding on the foal of a donkey.	15 «Non temere, o figliuola di Sion! Ecco il tuo re che viene, seduto sopra un puledro d'asina».
16 At first his disciples did not understand this, but later, after Jesus had been glorified, theyremembered that this had been written about him and that this was what had happened to him.	16 I suoi discepoli non compresero dapprima queste cose; ma quando Gesù fu glorificato, allora si rammentarono che quelle cose erano per lui state scritte e che quelle avevano essi compiute in lui.
17 The crowd who had been with him when he cal ed Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from thedead kept bearing witness to it;	17 La folla poi, che era con lui quando evocò Lazzaro dalla tomba e lo risuscitò dai morti, gli rendeva testimonianza;
18 this was another reason why the crowd came out to receive him: they had heard that he had giventhis sign.	18 e la folla gli era andata incontro, perchè aveva sentito aver egli fatto questo miracolo.
19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, 'You see, you are making no progress; look, the whole worldhas gone after him!'	19 Perciò i Farisei dissero tra loro: «Vedete che non approdiamo a nulla? Ecco che il mondo intero va a lui!».
20 Among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks.	20 Ora tra quelli che erano saliti alla festa per adorare vi erano dei Gentili,
21 These approached Philip, who came from Bethsaida in Galilee, and put this request to him, 'Sir, weshould like to see Jesus.'	21 i quali, accostatisi a Filippo, che era di Betsaida in Galilea, lo pregavano dicendo: «Signore, vogliamo vedere Gesù».
22 Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip together went to tel Jesus.	22 Filippo ne parlò ad Andrea, e Andrea e Filippo lo dissero a Gesù.
23 Jesus replied to them: Now the hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.	23 Gesù rispose loro: «È venuta l'ora, nella quale il Figliuol dell'uomo sarà glorificato.
24 In all truth I tell you, unless a wheat grain fal s into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain;but if it dies it yields a rich harvest.	24 In verità, in verità vi dico che se il grano di frumento, caduto in terra, non muore, resta solo; ma se muore, produce molto frutto.
25 Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world wil keep it for eternal life.	25 Chi ama la propria vita, la perderà, e chi odia la propria vita in questo mondo, la conserverà per la vita eterna.
26 Whoever serves me, must fol ow me, and my servant wil be with me wherever I am. If anyone servesme, my Father wil honour him.	26 Chi mi vuol servire, mi segua; perchè dove sarò io, quivi sarà anche il mio servo. E chi servirà me, sarà glorificato dal Padre mio.
27 Now my soul is troubled. What shal I say: Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this veryreason that I have come to this hour.	27 Ora l'anima mia è turbata. E che dirò io? Padre, liberami da quest'ora. Ma io sono venuto appunto per quest'ora.
28 Father, glorify your name! A voice came from heaven, 'I have glorified it, and I wil again glorify it.'	28 Padre, glorifica il tuo nome!». E dal cielo venne una voce: «L'ho glorificato e ancora lo glorificherò».
29 The crowd standing by, who heard this, said it was a clap of thunder; others said, 'It was an angelspeaking to him.'	29 Ora la folla, ch'era presente e aveva sentito la voce, diceva esser stato un tuono, mentre altri dicevano: «Un angelo gli ha parlato».
30 Jesus answered, 'It was not for my sake that this voice came, but for yours.	30 Gesù ripigliò a dire: «Questa voce è venuta non per me, ma per voi.
31 'Now sentence is being passed on this world; now the prince of this world is to be driven out.	31 Adesso si fa il giudizio del mondo; adesso il principe di questo mondo sarà cacciato fuori.
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shal draw al people to myself.'	32 Ed io, quando sarò innalzato da terra, trarrò tutto a me».
33 By these words he indicated the kind of death he would die.	33 E ciò diceva per indicare di qual morte sarebbe morto.
34 The crowd answered, 'The Law has taught us that the Christ wil remain for ever. So how can yousay, "The Son of man must be lifted up"? Who is this Son of man?'	34 Gli rispose la folla: «Noi abbiamo imparato dalla legge che il Cristo vivrà in eterno. Come adunque puoi dire che il Figliuol dell'uomo deve essere inalzato? Chi è questo Figliuol dell'uomo?».
35 Jesus then said: The light wil be with you only a little longer now. Go on your way while you have thelight, or darkness wil overtake you, and nobody who walks in the dark knows where he is going.	35 Gesù pertanto rispose loro: «La luce è in voi ancora per un poco. Camminate finchè avete la luce, affinchè le tenebre non vi sorprendano; chi cammina nelle tenebre non sa dove vada.
36 While you stil have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light. Having saidthis, Jesus left them and was hidden from their sight.	36 Finchè avete la luce, credete nella luce affinchè siate figli della luce». Così parlò Gesù; poi se ne andò e si nascose da loro.
37 Though they had been present when he gave so many signs, they did not believe in him;	37 Benchè avesse fatto tanti miracoli in loro presenza, pure non credettero in lui,
38 this was to fulfil the words of the prophet Isaiah: Lord, who has given credence to what they haveheard from us, and who has seen in it a revelation of the Lord's arm?	38 perchè s'adempisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: «Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra parola? E il braccio del Signore a chi mai è stato rivelato?».
39 Indeed, they were unable to believe because, as Isaiah says again:	39 Essi non potevano credere, perchè Isaia aveva detto:
40 He has blinded their eyes, he has hardened their heart, to prevent them from using their eyes to see,using their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	40 «Egli ha accecato i loro occhi e indurito i loro cuori, affinchè non vedano con gli occhi e non intendano col cuore e non si convertano, in modo che io possa guarirli».
41 Isaiah said this because he saw his glory, and his words referred to Jesus.	41 Queste cose disse Isaia, quando vide la gloria di lui e parlò di lui.
42 And yet there were many who did believe in him, even among the leading men, but they did not admitit, because of the Pharisees and for fear of being banned from the synagogue:	42 Molti, tuttavia, anche tra i capi, credettero in lui; ma non lo confessavano per paura dei Farisei, per non essere scacciati dalla sinagoga,
43 they put human glory before God's glory.	43 giacchè essi amavano più la gloria degli uomini che la gloria di Dio.
44 Jesus declared publicly: Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in the one who sent me,	44 Ma Gesù esclamò e disse: «Chi crede in me, crede non in me, ma in Colui che mi ha mandato;
45 and whoever sees me, sees the one who sent me.	45 e chi vede me, vede Colui che mi ha mandato.
46 I have come into the world as light, to prevent anyone who believes in me from staying in the darkany more.	46 Io son venuto luce al mondo, affinchè chiunque crede in me, non resti nelle tenebre;
47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithful y, it is not I who shal judge such a person,since I have come not to judge the world, but to save the world:	47 e se qualcuno ascolta le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo giudicherò, perchè io non sono venuto a giudicare il mondo, ma a salvare il mondo.
48 anyone who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I havespoken wil be his judge on the last day.	48 Chi disprezza me e non accoglie le mie parole, ha chi lo giudica: la parola che ho proferito, essa lo giudicherà nell'ultimo giorno.
49 For I have not spoken of my own accord; but the Father who sent me commanded me what to sayand what to speak,	49 Perchè io non ho parlato da me stesso; ma il Padre, che mi ha mandato, mi ha prescritto egli stesso quello che io dovevo dire e predicare.
50 and I know that his commands mean eternal life. And therefore what the Father has told me is what Ispeak.	50 E io so che il suo comando è la vita eterna. Perciò le cose che io dico, le dico come il Padre me le ha dette».
