John 12

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised fromthe dead.	1 Seis días antes de la Pascua, Jesús se fue a Betania, donde estaba Lázaro, a quien Jesús había resucitado de entre los muertos.
2 They gave a dinner for him there; Martha waited on them and Lazarus was among those at table.	2 Le dieron allí una cena. Marta servía y Lázaro era uno de los que estaban con él a la mesa.
3 Mary brought in a pound of very costly ointment, pure nard, and with it anointed the feet of Jesus,wiping them with her hair; the house was fil ed with the scent of the ointment.	3 Entonces María, tomando una libra de perfume de nardo puro, muy caro, ungió los pies de Jesús y los secó con sus cabellos. Y la casa se llenó del olor del perfume.
4 Then Judas Iscariot -- one of his disciples, the man who was to betray him-said,	4 Dice Judas Iscariote, uno de los discípulos, el que lo había de entregar:
5 'Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denari and the money given to the poor?'	5 «¿Por qué no se ha vendido este perfume por trescientos denarios y se ha dado a los pobres?»
6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of thecommon fund and used to help himself to the contents.	6 Pero no decía esto porque le preocuparan los pobres, sino porque era ladrón, y como tenía la bolsa, se llevaba lo que echaban en ella.
7 So Jesus said, 'Leave her alone; let her keep it for the day of my burial.	7 Jesús dijo: «Déjala, que lo guarde para el día de mi sepultura.
8 You have the poor with you always, you wil not always have me.'	8 Porque pobres siempre tendréis con vosotros; pero a mí no siempre tendréis».
9 Meanwhile a large number of Jews heard that he was there and came not only on account of Jesusbut also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Gran número de judíos supieron que Jesús estaba allí y fueron, no sólo por Jesús, sino también por ver a Lázaro, a quien había resucitado de entre los muertos.
10 Then the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus as well,	10 Los sumos sacerdotes decidieron dar muerte también a Lázaro,
11 since it was on his account that many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.	11 porque a causa de él muchos judíos se les iban y creían en Jesús.
12 The next day the great crowd of people who had come up for the festival heard that Jesus was on hisway to Jerusalem.	12 Al día siguiente, al enterarse la numerosa muchedumbre que había llegado para la fiesta, de que Jesús se dirigía a Jerusalén,
13 They took branches of palm and went out to receive him, shouting: 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel.'	13 tomaron ramas de palmera y salieron a su encuentro gritando: «¡ Hosanna! ¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor, y el Rey de Israel!»
14 Jesus found a young donkey and mounted it -- as scripture says:	14 Jesús, habiendo encontrado un borriquillo, se montó en él, según está escrito:
15 Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion; look, your king is approaching, riding on the foal of a donkey.	15 No temas, hija de Sión; mira que viene tu Rey montado en un pollino de asna.
16 At first his disciples did not understand this, but later, after Jesus had been glorified, theyremembered that this had been written about him and that this was what had happened to him.	16 Esto no lo comprendieron sus discípulos de momento; pero cuando Jesús fue glorificado, cayeron en la cuenta de que esto estaba escrito sobre él, y que era lo que le habían hecho.
17 The crowd who had been with him when he cal ed Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from thedead kept bearing witness to it;	17 La gente que estaba con él cuando llamó a Lázaro de la tumba y le resucitó de entre los muertos, daba testimonio.
18 this was another reason why the crowd came out to receive him: they had heard that he had giventhis sign.	18 Por eso también salió la gente a su encuentro, porque habían oído que él había realizado aquella señal.
19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, 'You see, you are making no progress; look, the whole worldhas gone after him!'	19 Entonces los fariseos se dijeron entre sí: «¿Veis cómo no adelantáis nada?, todo el mundo se ha ido tras él».
20 Among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks.	20 Había algunos griegos de los que subían a adorar en la fiesta.
21 These approached Philip, who came from Bethsaida in Galilee, and put this request to him, 'Sir, weshould like to see Jesus.'	21 Estos se dirigieron a Felipe, el de Betsaida de Galilea, y le rogaron: «Señor, queremos ver a Jesús».
22 Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip together went to tel Jesus.	22 Felipe fue a decírselo a Andrés; Andrés y Felipe fueron a decírselo a Jesús.
23 Jesus replied to them: Now the hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.	23 Jesús les respondió: «Ha llegado la hora de que sea glorificado el Hijo de hombre.
24 In all truth I tell you, unless a wheat grain fal s into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain;but if it dies it yields a rich harvest.	24 En verdad, en verdad os digo: si el grano de trigo no cae en tierra y muere, queda él solo; pero si muere, da mucho fruto.
25 Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world wil keep it for eternal life.	25 El que ama su vida, la pierde; y el que odia su vida en este mundo, la guardará para una vida eterna.
26 Whoever serves me, must fol ow me, and my servant wil be with me wherever I am. If anyone servesme, my Father wil honour him.	26 Si alguno me sirve, que me siga, y donde yo esté, allí estará también mi servidor. Si alguno me sirve, el Padre le honrará.
27 Now my soul is troubled. What shal I say: Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this veryreason that I have come to this hour.	27 Ahora mi alma está turbada. Y ¿que voy a decir? ¡Padre, líbrame de esta hora! Pero ¡si he llegado a esta hora para esto!
28 Father, glorify your name! A voice came from heaven, 'I have glorified it, and I wil again glorify it.'	28 Padre, glorifica tu Nombre». Vino entonces una voz del cielo: «Le he glorificado y de nuevo le glorificaré».
29 The crowd standing by, who heard this, said it was a clap of thunder; others said, 'It was an angelspeaking to him.'	29 La gente que estaba allí y lo oyó decía que había sido un trueno. Otros decían: «Le ha hablado un ángel».
30 Jesus answered, 'It was not for my sake that this voice came, but for yours.	30 Jesús respondió: «No ha venido esta voz por mí, sino por vosotros.
31 'Now sentence is being passed on this world; now the prince of this world is to be driven out.	31 Ahora es el juicio de este mundo; ahora el Príncipe de este mundo será echado fuera.
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shal draw al people to myself.'	32 Y yo cuando sea levando de la tierra, atraeré a todos hacia mí».
33 By these words he indicated the kind of death he would die.	33 Decía esto para significar de qué muerte iba a morir.
34 The crowd answered, 'The Law has taught us that the Christ wil remain for ever. So how can yousay, "The Son of man must be lifted up"? Who is this Son of man?'	34 La gente le respondió: «Nosotros sabemos por la Ley que el Cristo permanece para siempre. ¿Cómo dices tú que es preciso que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado? ¿Quién es ese Hijo del hombre?»
35 Jesus then said: The light wil be with you only a little longer now. Go on your way while you have thelight, or darkness wil overtake you, and nobody who walks in the dark knows where he is going.	35 Jesús les dijo: «Todavía, por un poco de tiempo, está la luz entre vosotros. Caminad mientras tenéis la luz, para que no os sorprendan las tinieblas; el que camina en tinieblas, no sabe a dónde va.
36 While you stil have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light. Having saidthis, Jesus left them and was hidden from their sight.	36 Mientras tenéis la luz, creed en la luz, para que seáis hijos de luz». Dicho esto, se marchó Jesús y se ocultó de ellos.
37 Though they had been present when he gave so many signs, they did not believe in him;	37 Aunque había realizado tan grandes señales delante de ellos, no creían en él;
38 this was to fulfil the words of the prophet Isaiah: Lord, who has given credence to what they haveheard from us, and who has seen in it a revelation of the Lord's arm?	38 para que se cumpliera el oráculo pronunciado por el profeta Isaías: Señor, ¿quién dio crédito a nuestras palabras? Y el brazo del Señor, ¿a quién se le reveló?
39 Indeed, they were unable to believe because, as Isaiah says again:	39 No podían creer, porque también había dicho Isaías:
40 He has blinded their eyes, he has hardened their heart, to prevent them from using their eyes to see,using their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	40 Ha cegado sus ojos, ha endurecido su corazón; para que no vean con los ojos, ni comprendan con su corazón, ni se conviertan, ni yo los sane.
41 Isaiah said this because he saw his glory, and his words referred to Jesus.	41 Isaías dijo esto porque vio su gloria y habló de él.
42 And yet there were many who did believe in him, even among the leading men, but they did not admitit, because of the Pharisees and for fear of being banned from the synagogue:	42 Sin embargo, aun entre los magistrados, muchos creyeron en él; pero, por los fariseos, no lo confesaban, para no ser excluidos de la sinagoga,
43 they put human glory before God's glory.	43 porque prefirieron la gloria de los hombres a la gloria de Dios.
44 Jesus declared publicly: Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in the one who sent me,	44 Jesús gritó y dijo: «El que cree en mí, no cree en mí, sino en aquel que me ha enviado;
45 and whoever sees me, sees the one who sent me.	45 y el que me ve a mí, ve a aquel que me ha enviado.
46 I have come into the world as light, to prevent anyone who believes in me from staying in the darkany more.	46 Yo, la luz, he venido al mundo para que todo el que crea en mí no siga en las tinieblas.
47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithful y, it is not I who shal judge such a person,since I have come not to judge the world, but to save the world:	47 Si alguno oye mis palabras y no las guarda, yo no le juzgo, porque no he venido para juzgar al mundo, sino para salvar al mundo.
48 anyone who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I havespoken wil be his judge on the last day.	48 El que me rechaza y no recibe mis palabras, ya tiene quien le juzgue: la Palabra que yo he hablado, ésa le juzgará el último día;
49 For I have not spoken of my own accord; but the Father who sent me commanded me what to sayand what to speak,	49 porque yo no he hablado por mi cuenta, sino que el Padre que me ha enviado me ha mandado lo que tengo que decir y hablar,
50 and I know that his commands mean eternal life. And therefore what the Father has told me is what Ispeak.	50 y yo sé que su mandato es vida eterna. Por eso, lo que yo hablo lo hablo como el Padre me lo ha dicho a mí».
